Our story begins in 1896 where a unique ouzo recipe, based on Chios aniseed, made Ioannis Stoupakis ouzo popular throughout the island, while trade with the coast of Asia Minor flourished.

In 1900, Ioannis Stoupakis acquired his first official permit from the Ottoman Empire allowing him to establish his distillery in Dafnonas village.

In 1960 Alexandros Stoupakis, the youngest of the seven brothers, continued what his father had started.

In 1990, the founder’s grandson, Yiannis Stoupakis, a 3rd generation distiller, took over the family business maintaining tradition and giving emphasis to the unique manner and qualities of its production.

In 2008, the company’s shareholding structure was strengthened with new shareholders and its trade style was changed to Stoupakis Chios Distillery S.A.

At the same time, a new production facility was established, which modernized the entire production procedure, maintaining however the traditional way of distilling.

Stoupakis Distillery plant is outfitted with cutting-edge equipment which includes a large number of copper stills and an equally impressive production and bottling line.

The distillery’s warehouses fully meet all health, storage and safety requirements.

The company has invested significant funds in the quality control sector, setting up a stateof-the-art laboratory staffed with chemists, engineers and connoisseurs.

The distillery is certified with ISO 9001:2015 and FSSC 22000
