What does the Pickled fish have to do with Easter? Pickled fish is a purely a South African tradition. The origin is unclear, but according to the Archdiocese of Cape Town it has to do with the fact that Catholics abstain from meat on Good Friday and also do not believe in doing any work on Good Friday (including cooking). Fish, however, was permissible, and pickled fish is something that is prepared a few days before and ready to eat on Good Friday. The Cape Malay community in Cape Town is where the pickled fish tradition is likely to have started. Despite its pagan history, Easter is still regarded

Isn't amazing how that in the boardroom we all agree only to find that after the meeting we are all working according to our own agenda? The question then is: "How do I get my staff to work with me?" The answer, "People work with or do business with people they like!" Your people are not interested how good you are at your product or service or how experienced you are in that field. The only things they are really concerned about are: "Does he or she care about me, can he help me and Can I trust him?" It is said that people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care. For too long we in leadership positions in our businesses have been telling our team things like: "Do not bring your problems to work". We forget that wherever we go, there we take our problems. I suggest that we in those leadership positions think about and actually start creating the space within our businesses where we sincerely ask: "How are you?" True leaders know that in order to get someone to reach out their hand to you and walk with you, you have to touch their heart. For too long business has been about the bottom line instead of relationships. We invest in all other resources and tend to overlook our most important resource.....our people. So I suggest that in order to get our people to work with us, we remember that people buy into people before they buy into their visions, goals or businesses. So be nice and care sincerely as we lead our businesses successfully. Certified Leadership and personal development coach, trainer and speaker. As a John C Maxwell Certified Coach, Trainer and Speaker, I can offer you workshops, seminars, keynote speaking, and coaching, aiding your personal and professional growth through study and practical application of proven leadership methods. Working together, I will move you and/or your team or organization in the desired direction to reach your goals. TRU ALIGN - safer dental radiation In a world where cancer is on the rise we can only sit back and hope we don’t ever get diagnosed with any form of cancer, or is there something else we can do? A recently developed product that a dentist would attach to his x-ray unit reduces radiation exposure by 70% or more. Any reduction in radiation lowers your risk to radiation induced malignancies and benign brain tumours. It is important to note that radiation is all around us from various sources and the destructive effects accumulate in our bodies. This is where it becomes our best interest to lower our dose where ever and whenever possible. Our product is called Tru-Align, it not only reduces radiation dose by 70% or more it also reduces the tissue exposure by 66 to 75% in a dental practice. This means that 66 to 75% less cells get damaged from the ionising radiation the x-ray unit emits. Remember the only dose that is low enough is ZERO but that is impossible when it comes to x-rays, which is vital for diagnosing problems that can’t be seen. Your dentist follows the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonable Achievable) when Tru-Align is attached to their x-ray unit. Certain people need to take extra care when x-rays are taken. Children for instance are 5 to 10 times more sensitive to radiation due to the high mitotic rate of young cells and the longer life span during which something could develop. Women, especially pregnant women, need to also take extra care. Support your local dentist who has put their patients first by visiting www.patientsfirst.co.za and finding a low dose practice in your area or refer your dentist today by visiting the site. Combine the flours, water, milk, yeast, salt, and sugar. Add the egg and butter and mix to a sticky dough. Then, add the dried fruit, orange zest, and spices and knead until silky and smooth. Cover the dough and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size. Knock down the risen dough and divide into 8 equal pieces. Shape into rounds and dust with flour. Place on a floured board, cover with plastic wrap or cloth, and set aside to rise for about 30 minutes, until roughly doubled in size. Preheat the oven to 200 째C. To make the crosses, whisk together flour and water until smooth, then transfer to a pastry bag and snip off the end to make a fine hole (or use a plastic food bag with a corner snipped off). Transfer the risen buns to a baking sheet and pipe a cross on top of each one, then bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Meanwhile, melt jam and water in a pan. Brush over the buns to glaze as you take them from the oven. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Serve hot, cross, or toasted.
