MomsNeed ‘ME’ Time Too!

We’ve all heard it said that being a mother is the hardest job on the planet. Nurturing and self-sacrificing when it comes to their family, mothers are juggling a variety of tasks and running themselves ragged in the process. So busy are mothers that they often forget to take care of themselves. Women’s magazines, Oprah and doctors have all been spreading the message - take care of yourself FIRST because you cannot take care of anyone else to the best of your ability unless you are running at an optimum level. So this mother’s day make it a goal not only for one day, but incorporate ‘me-time’ into your life. It’s easier than you think and doesn’t have to take up much time! We look at some simple ways to unwind Breathe. Many of us are oblivious to the fact that we are not breathing properly. When we’re stressed we tend to breathe in short shallow breaths. Mindful breathing means being aware of how you are breathing. Slow deep breaths slow down the heart rate, lowers blood pressure and helps to relax the body. Loosen your jaw. Pay attention to your mouth and jaw right now. Is your jaw set quite tight and your tongue firmly lodged up against the roof of your mouth? We are never aware of this when we’re stressed – it is an involuntary reaction. Become more aware of this and practice relaxing your jaw, mouth and tongue. It

immediately helps to release tension. Think happy thoughts. Spend 10 minutes daydreaming about something that makes you feel happy. Get lost in the thoughts and when you come back to reality you may even find yourself smiling! Stare upwards. Find a tree in a quiet spot. Lay down underneath and stare up at through the leaves to the sky. Gazing upwards, especially out in nature, has a remarkably calming effect. Research concludes that gazing upwards stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system and lowers the heart rate and blood pressure. So moms, relaxing doesn’t have to involve expensive trips to the spa although it has its merits. Including some simple relaxation techniques into each day can instantly de-stress and replenish your energy levels! ReCONNECT wishes all the amazing moms out there a Happy and Relaxing Mother’s Day!

Business Support & Security DOING BUSINESS RIGHT........ It's amazing how often the circumstances around conducting our businesses leaves us wondering whether we are still in the right business. I hope that for you, when faced with that concern, the reason why you started that business, reassures you that you are.... Then the next question is normally: "if then I am in the right business, how come....?" Well, my question is: Are we doing the right business right? We should never lose sight of the relation between being effective and efficient. So often we can be doing the right thing (effective) and not doing the right thing, right (efficient). This brings us to what is often described as "best practices" in our different industries. It is interesting though that these best practices are norms and standards by which the average business person measures whether they are on track or not. Very seldom will those who excel, share their best practices... it therefore stands to reason that doing business right is an subjective issue. "Right" is defined and guided by our own set of personal values or moral systems. Doing business right has got nothing to do with external factors like position, price, product or all the other "p's" we are encouraged to consider but rather by the internal "p's" like principles and personality. Our motives and intentions for achieving our desired outcomes, be that profits or other results, will ultimately determine whether we are doing business right. Furthermore that question should not be answered by

ourselves but by those we are doing business with or for. Their response or continued desire to do business with us, should be our "Yes or No". In conclusion, a special word of encouragement and acknowledgment to all our women (mothers) in business this month. You are perfect examples of the fact that external factors and circumstances like raising kids and running households do not mean that you cannot do business......RIGHT! TOP TIPS! It’s time to review your security precautions.

The incidents of crime have increased in our areas, and it’s a good idea to take a fresh look at whether your home or business premises is as safe and secure as it could be... Walk around your property and identify your possible 'weak areas'. If in any doubt ask your security company or your SAPS Sector Commander to assist/accompany you on this task. It may be that foliage or trees surrounding your perimeter fence are thick enough to hide a person close to your entrance gate. Check that your electric fence is working and check that your gates close effectively and are always locked. Do you have battery back-up in case of electrical outages? Is your electricity supply box outside your property securely locked? Is your gate correctly installed so that it cannot be lifted off its hinges or rails? Instruct your family and staff not to allow any unknown person onto your premises, no matter their reason or excuse. Identify all workmen, delivery personnel and socalled official suppliers prior to entry. Are your windows adequately burglar-proofed? Do not leave windows that are visible from the road open - even if they are not on the ground floor. Ensure no valuables (or keys) are left close to open windows or can be reached through the openings of security doors. Do you have sturdy house doors and are they locked when not in immediate use? Is your kitchen door or side door as secure as your front door? Do you have sufficient lighting outside - in your garden, entrances, gate, garage, etc.?
