Be Kind to Your Kidneys Your kidneys are the hardest working organs in the body. They eliminate waste and toxins while purifying the blood. They never rest – they are a 24-hour waste disposal system. In addition, they also produce hormones that: • Balance the salt and fluid in the body • Regulate blood pressure • Control the production of red blood cells • Maintain strong and healthy bones When kidney function fails the result is fatal. Kidney disease is linked to diabetes and high blood pressure and therefore it is important to manage these diseases properly. The 13th of March is World Kidney Day which aims to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys and reduce or prevent kidney disease. We identify 3 foods that support good kidney function Red Bell Peppers. Kidneys regulate potassium. Too much potassium will put you at a greater risk of developing a stroke or heart attack and people suffering from kidney problems will need to lower their potassium intake. Red Bell Peppers are low in potassium while being high in vitamin C and A as well as vitamin B6, folic and fibre. Cruciferous Vegetables. Cabbage and cauliflower are great for kidney health. They are also low in potassium while being packed with phytochemicals which break up free radicals in the body. This means they are also important in preventing cancer. Berries. Strawberries, cranberries, blueberries, raspberries – go wild with berries! Berries are a great source of manganese, vitamin C, fibre and folate. They are rich in antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties which help reduce inflammation in Editorial by :Deevra Norling, the body and improve bladder function. Freelance Writer. World Oral Health Day - March 20th We all have busy schedules; with all of the parties, dinners, shopping, celebrations, and altered schedules. That's no reason to forget to practice good oral hygiene, however, especially with all of the starchy, sugary treats present that could wreak havoc on dental health. Dentists recommend that patients brush thoroughly twice a day, floss once a day and rinse with mouthwash when necessary to remove plaque and keep the mouth free from bacteria. Regular care is recommended because of the small amount of time it takes for bacteria to invade the mouth, even if it's clean. Studies have shown that plaque will regrow on teeth that are completely clean within three to four hours of brushing. Regular visits to your dentist ensures Healthy Teeth & Gum care.

Introducing Owner of Curtain & Decor Gallery, Wahiebah... 1. How did it all start for you? - Curtain & Décor Gallery is a continuation of a Family Business that operated in Malmesbury, WC, and due to logistics we moved the business to Claremont Cape Town. Our Family has a host of Artisans – Carpentry & Décor and it is welcoming to continue with this line of business. 2. Give three words that best describe your business. - Quality, Service Delivery and Thinking..”Out of the Box” 3. Where do you see yourself and the business in 3-5 years? - Established and Healthy Customer Clientele in the Cape Town Area with both Private and Corporate Customers

6 worst habits that could be holding you back from success: 1. Waiting for the ‘right’ moment How many times have you said, “I’m just going to wait until I have enough money saved up,” or “I need to research more.” As the Chinese proverb goes, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” Stop waiting for the unicorn and take the bull by the horns now. Any action is better than no action. 2. The approval of others While it is important to receive validation for your work, constantly seeking that pat on the back from others will get you nowhere. Do not feed into the ego of your everneedy self-esteem. It is nice to receive good comments on your work. But do not mix up what is good for the ego for what is good for your productivity.

4. Giving too much respect Even Einstein made mistakes. This habit cripples many people who listen to ‘respectable’ figures who are in a completely different field to them. How many times have you seen an actor endorsing a product they know nothing about and people listening just because they are famous? Terrible habit.

3. The need to always be perfect Perfectionism is crippling. By all means strive for excellence and seek to produce the best product you are able to deliver. But spending far too much time on any task can become detrimental when you have people waiting for you to deliver.

5. Germophobia It should not only be great leaders that aren’t afraid of getting their hands dirty, but anyone striving after success. Getting your hands dirty means engaging in a task that is outside of your responsibility. Win the respect of others by doing something beyond your duty. Article continue on Page 11

PEOPLE DO BUSINESS WITH PEOPLE THEY LIKE It is a fact that people go along with people they get along with. That is the simplicity of relationships. I am still to find that this is not also true in business relationships. It is commonly accepted that people return to our businesses because of our products or services. Though this might be true to a certain degree, the bottom line is that people do business with people and not products or service. The secret to return business is good, lasting relationships. It has been said before but is worth saying again. There are three questions any prospect, customer or client wants answered. 1. Do they care about me? 2. Can they really help me? 3. Can I trust them. Once these questions all have a "yes" answer, you have a good (business) thing going. The good thing about having answered those questions in the affirmative is that it does not only apply to business but all other relationships. Everybody who enters a relationship wants to know that the one (business) that they are in a relationship with, has their back. A good service or product provider will always make business decisions that serves the customer best. The return on that kind of investment does not always

amount to immediate "cash in the till" but always pays off. Many referrals came because of service or product providers going the proverbial extra mile. In essence, all that this really means is to BE NICE!! Be sincerely nice and apply the golden rule that says: "Do unto others that which you would want them to do unto you". Remember that: PEOPLE GO ALONG WITH PEOPLE THEY GET ALONG WITH, as we continue to Lead from where we are! So diarise the date and come have some fun while‘Knowing your numbers’ 6 worst habits that could be holding you back from success (Continue): 6. Not learning from people ‘less’ than you Pride is like putting poison into your own glass of water. Great knowledge can come from anyone. But if you simply shut someone off because they do not have a PhD or they are not a CEO, you are potentially robbing yourself of a golden nugget. You never know what kind of experience a person has or who the person may be connected with. On a final note, Samuel Johnson: “The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken.” If you are suffering from any of these 10 toxic habits, then you need to nip it in the bud today.
