Air pollution has been a constant global concern for the modern world. Many sources of pollution are tied directly to urban areas which often do not collect information or report on outdoor air quality, compromising the public’s awareness of the air pollution around them.
The circular LED on the device changes colour from turquoise to red to reflect the quality of air based on measures of Particulate Matter, Volatile Organic Compounds and Carbon Monoxide in the air. Aero also vibrates when air quality is extremely poor.
Aero aims to resolve this. It is a portable air quality monitoring device that can travel with the user across multiple environments throughout the day, designed especially for those who live in urban areas or suffer from conditions that make them vulnerable to air pollution.
The app which is linked to Aero provides many additional features such as . . . • Detailed information on the level of each pollutant. • A live view map of air pollution, made using information from Aero users across the city. • Tracking history of the user’s exposure to pollutants over a given period of time. • When pollution is high, the app will warn the user and offer wayfinding guidance to the nearest safe area. Other guidance is also given to reduce pollutants or notify the user of simple changes to their daily route they could make to reduce pollutant exposure.
The device and app provide information and warnings based on the level of pollutants in the air, enabling users to be more aware of what they are breathing and encouraging them to take actions to avoid or reduce the harmful pollutants.
