Many many years ago, in the land called Japan, There were cities, two . . .
One was Kyoto, that had a palace . . .
The other was Osaka, where ships sailed through . . .
In Kyoto lived a frog, his happy home by the stream,
In Osaka there was one, in a marsh where lily pads gleam . . .
Hiroki from Osaka wondered what Kyoto looked like . . .
And off he hopped, with a joyful jump . . .
Hiroshi from Kyoto wondered what Osaka looked like . . .
And off he hopped too, over every bump . . .
Hop, Hop, Hop went Hiroki, never losing hope . . .
til’ he reached the peak, so tired, he couldn’t let out a single croak
Hop, Hop, Hop went Hiroshi too, from the Kyoto side . . .
He stopped at the peak as well, tired from his jumping strides . . .
But Ah! Lo and Behold! who is it that Hiroki met ?
A frog that looked just liked him, A frog so blue he hadn’t seen yet . . .
They bowed & greeted each other and asked “How do you do ?”
Eager to know if it was worth going all the way ,
And they both found out , it was each others’ cities they were off to . . .
Hiroki & Hiroshi thought & thought hard of a way ,
To find out what their cities looked like before they got there . . .
For Hiroki had an idea that could help them see . . .
They were too short to see and yet they didn’t despair
Hiroshi was delighted to find out what his idea could be
And so they stood on their hind legs, supporting each other
til’ they were up their feet, but oh they did forget . . .
Trying to catch a glimpse of the city of their new brother . . .
That a frog’s eyes are in the back of its head . . .
And so Hiroshi saw his own city, thinking Kyoto was just like Osaka
While Hiroshi thought Osaka looked just like his own home . . .
After this, They told each other, “Your city is just like mine . . .
And to go all the way there, would just be a waste of time.
And thus they greeted each other & bid each other farewell . . .
They had found a new friend but not a new place to dwell . . .
And so they happily hopped back to their own homes
