Materials &Technology - The material for roof is Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic. like in Heydar Aliyev Centre in Azerbaijan by Zaha Hadid Architects - The material is mainy chosen because of its flexible design capabilities and its rainproof nature. - It blends in with the plan of the building beautifully and can be put into any shape possible with the use of space frames. - the glass glazing at many areas in the building is done by unitized structurally bonded fixed glass. Ground- embedded facade lighting fixtures are used to illuminate the facade creating a beautiful ambience around the building envelope.

Site Plan

Meditation Garden Meditation is an important aspect of dealing with oneself and with nature. It is a way of connecting with the inner depths of the mind. Therefore, as a calm and tranquil space, a meditation garden has been provided on site which would help foster community feelings

The design proposal intends to create a good public space which brings legibility and imageability to the site through its conceptualisation vis-a-vis the use of various landscape elements and design development controls. The design approach has been to cater , not only to the local residents but the visitors who are also the end users of the site . This has ben made possible by the use of elements like maze gardens, open library and OAT which acts as congregation spaces , improving social cohesian and generating a sense of community

Open Library

Skating Rink A concrete skating rink serves the recreational activities of the site as a play area. This can be accessed by all groups of ages.

Conclusion

Site design provides an open library where users can indulge in private reading time in the midst of nature. An open book rack provides a large array of choices for reading. This serves as an interactive spot and caters to the imagination of people from all walks of life. the library space is a way of giving back to the people. The perspective in this is also a

Good public spaces are an integral part of community development and fostering cohesive environment at all levels. They not only have improved environmental impacts but also help incorporate strong community feelings.

Fire

The most important aspect of any good public space is its legibility and imageability. Our endeavor through this design has been to revitalize this lost component of public spaces and provide alternative design and energy options which could help facilitate further growth.

Air The amphi-theatre has been designed keeping in the mind the cultural activities to be conducted at the site. The water body serves as a fluid backdrop, catering to the changing moods of the setting. Dance, music and art would constitute the basis of activity pattern and give amore cultural character and meaning to the site.

Project - LIG Housing Semester - Vth Site - Loknayak Puram, New Delhi Site Area = 30,447 m2

Healthy Environment Attractive spaces The current LIG housings around the city are not in a very nice condition. Although a large chunk of this is due to the irregular maintenance by the authorities, but still a lot can be done initially while designing these societies, to improve the living spaces for the people.

Lively space People Movement

Considering the over population of the city, 2 bedroom flats seemed a better option than a big living room and one bedorom only. Also, each block was placed seperately to give 2 sides open for each flat to improvise on the air flow inside these small homes.

Safety

H

Everything was aimed at just one simple thing - better living space for them. Aim was to give these people a comfortable and habitable space that people from higher sections get. Like, getting rid of clingy shafts and dark alleys & providing green space around all the building blocks. A community center was also provided for community activities, along with a park.

It is clear that the low income societies are built to deal with high population of the lower income group. And it is also evident that the families within usually a few years extend their homes to get an extra room. So, 2 bedrooms are provided, compromising with space in each of them.

Project - ANDC Trophy Semester - IVth Site - Ring Railways, New Delhi

About the project ...

Transformation of Delhi

Roof Form Evolution

Development of Ring Railway

Concept

Parallel Projection ? - A range of perceptions of the same idea, used to perceive various facets of the same entity. Aim was to design and propose an intervention on the site of Kishanganj Railway Station in the presence of a concept in mind, so as to render it functional in today’s date enough to attract population toward its use as well as toward the use of the Ring Railway Delhi and make the design such that it can be used as a basis for designing other stations located on the path of the Ring Railway. Basically, an extension from ideals to actuality, forming a bridge between the achieved reality and what is ultimately perceived by the user.

This project investigates transparency and movement as the main measured elements that define space. These elements seek to articulate distinct and memorable places throughout the station, acknowledging its unique setting along the ring road. To achieve transparency through a building which is made out of solid elements, it is important to consider two aspects: permeability and reflection

Project - Clubhouse Semester - Vth Site - Hypothetical Site Area = choice

Concept Guidelines

About the project ... The protection of mother earth and saving humanity has become the need of the hour which can be done by providing the basic amenities without destroying the natural resources.

The hypothetical site conditions Waterfall

Once upon a time, owning a plot was not a difficulty but the recent trends make that a far-fetched dream for many. The trend of vertical construction is fastly gaining momentum, and becoming one of the only solutions for the growing real estate prices. The design takes vertical construction one step further, a dynamic design, mobile in the vertical direction. Waterfall

Mobility

View

The club house is visualized as a natural extension of the cliff face rather than an addition to the landscape, creating an absolute connection with the river. Internally, the spaces feature minimalistic furnishings to ensure that the transcendent views of the river and the unique spatial experience of the location remain the integral focal point of the design.

Levels

Form Evolution Imagining a structure as an extension to the existing cliff The Site: A cliff with waterfall. And two levels on one side.

Levels Cliff

Plan Clubhouse taking shape according to its function

The fierce roughness of the cliffs and the calm mobility of the waterfall create the perfect juxtaposition for the clubhouse made of synthesised materials but seeking to blend in with the natural surroundings. Waterfall is one of the main attractions of sight seeing . It also acts as the passive air condition system . Building stands on the vertical side of the cliff.

Cutting the rear part to blend with the waterfall

The design of the building is such that the views are not blocked from any side. We get a 270 degree view from both bar and lounge as well as the recreational area. A person can enjoy unobstructed views of the river and the waterfall. The placement of the rooms is such that the privacy is not disturbed. There are openable decks on each level for the circulation of people. For enjoying the view of waterfall ,a large open deck has been provided.

The building moves from top of the cliff to underwater. In the morning when the sun is rising the building is at the top of the cliff for the view of the rising sun.

The roof and floor plans

During the daytime it stops on two levels for the recreational n adventurous activities. At night the lower part of the building is submerged under water for the views of the bioluminescent phytoplankton.

Activities in the clubhouse The design offers facilities and features that are eccentric and refreshing to those who are tired of their daily, monotonous life. To enjoy all aspects of nature our clubhouse is especially designed for thrill seeking people with exciting activities like zip lining, cliff jumping .

Zip lining

The structure is repelled up and down along a rail, by a powerful electromagnet at the base of the waterfall ,submerged at some length and an electromagnet at the base of the structure. By changing the direction and magnitude of the electric current, the building’s up and down motion can be controlled and modulated. Electricity generating rotors above the base of the waterfall help in partially compensating electricity requirements of the structure and the electromagnetic repulsion mechanism. Cliff jumping

Project - G-SEN Trophy Semester - VIth Site - Chawri Bazar, New Delhi

About the project ...

About Chawri bazar

A youth centre in Chawri The site is located in the walled city of New Delhi i.e Chawri Bazar which has rich culture , tradition and history . With contextuality, emerges a thought to design self similar structure and culture both. Taking tawaif’s as the threshhold, our design ‘Centre for Youth’ focuses on transforming their lives in a way that helps them improve their image in the society and gives them a good source of income too.

Merging parallel projection with architecture brings out an idea to revive what was in the past tradition of tawaifs. They weren't sex workers. They were more like the custodians of art and music, and were trained in classical singing. They were free to choose their patrons - people with whom they could have sex. But they hobnobbed with the elite, and nobility, were entertainers, recited ghazals, and danced in a manner that was suggestive of the arts rather than it being a vulgar manifestation of desire.

Chawri Bazaar, originally known as Chawdi (wide road) Bazaar, is a wholesale market that was established in 1840. The market runs along a long stretch of a street with the Hauz Qazi Chowk at one end and the backyard of the Jama Masjid at the other.

It is this center that will be the point of interaction between the tawaifs and the youth to exchange their talents.

Our design includes beauty parlor, cafe, food kiosks where the tawaifs would work for their income and spaces for showcasing their talents.

All in all, reviving the culture of tawaifs, giving them employment and improving their image in the society is all being met to give the youth a better place.

Project - Commercial Complex Semester - VIth Site - Sanjay Place, Agra Site Area = 30,447 m2

About the project ...

Advanced Material Technology - Glass Fibre Reinforced Gypsum (GFRG)

The project is situated in Sanjay Place in Agra. Sanjay Place is a big commercial centre that has many corporate complexes and shopping areas in it. The centre came up way back in the old days and today it look very out of date. The buildings use old elements in their facade and the finishes have also weared out and every building is very close to the point of decay. Having said this, to design another corporate complex here leaves you in a dilemna of either going with the existing site context or to introduce a modern building here.

Experimental studies have shown that GFRG panels, suitable filled with reinforced concrete, posses substantial strength to act not only as load-bearing elements, but also as shear walls, capable of resisting lateral loads due to earthquake and wind.

One of the main aims of this project was to introduce an advanced construction technology in the building unlike the conventional methodologies that have been used since ages. In my building, I have used "GFRG panels" for the interior as well as structural walls. GFRG / Rapid Wall - It is a type of pre-fabricated load bearing walling pannel, suitable for rapid mass scale building construction. There are cavities in the wall which may or may not be filled with concrete or reinforced concrete depending upon the load which the wall is supposed to carry.

A GFRG panel

I chose the latter. Because another old looking building with limited functionality would serve no purpose. It is important to create a spark of modernity here with this design which will hopefully lead to the emergence of more buildings like this or even develop the existing ones.

Project - Urban Design Semester - VIIth Site - East of Kailash, New Delhi Site Area = 30,447 m2

About the project ...

Site Plan

The requirement was to re-design a community centre existing in East of Kailash in New Delhi. There is a cinema known as "M-Cinema" existing inside the centre which is visited much more than the remaining community centre which is almost dead and needs some re-development to bring life to it. Various problems were recognised by visiting the sire during different times of the day and questioning people there and around the area. And consequently those problems were to be tackled in the design. The Community centre has a lavish anchor store which was non-existent earlier. The store is towards the western side of the site which is close to the posh area of Kailash colony. The anchor store shall anchor the people visiting it towards other parts of the site. The buildings are placed so as to face the existing park and levels have been done so as to have the office podium at the highest and the other 2 levels going down towards the park. So the centre is made to merge with the park with the green part of the centre merging into the park. The residential areas have been placed close to the park and away from rest of the site for privacy. The existing hospital at south has been taken care of while designng too.
