Addressing mental health
In Florida Hospital Association’s 2013 Community Benefit Report, 14 programs were highlighted that are truly making a difference in the communities they serve. One of those programs is LifeStream Behavioral Center’s Wellness Integration Network (WIN) clinic.
WIN is an integrated care clinic that offers patients the ability to receive routine primary care services and consultations from a psychiatric care team at the same time. Research shows that individuals who are mentally ill die on average 25 years before the general population due to the health challenges they face such as obesity, smoking, and diabetes.
The WIN program also offers nurse care managers who provide home visits, referrals to specialists, free transportation to and from appointments, and a wide variety of wellness activities and workshops. ■
We Love to See You
“While eating dinner, my front tooth veneer broke off completely. I was mortified; my entire front tooth was missing. The next morning I called Dr. Barr’s office immediately. It was not a scheduled workday for the office, but his assistant, Ashley, was able to come into the office and within an hour, had repaired my veneer perfectly. She is an angel. I have seen Dr. Barr for many years now, and I think he and his staff are simply the best.”
