On the right track
South Lake Hospital has entered into a management agreement with Pure Athletics to operate the track and field complex at the National Training Center (NTC) in Clermont. The partnership will allow for expanded programming and athlete recruitment at the facility. In addition, it will help grow the NTC outreach in the track and field industry.
Ken Brauman, manager of the U.S. track and field men’s team for the 2012 Olympics in London, leads the management of Pure Athletics. His extensive track and field resume includes being named the National High School Track Coach of the Year in 1997.
“I am looking forward to this new partnership,” he says. “We
A healing “dive”
South Lake Hospital opened the South Lake Wound Care Center in mid-July. The center features two hyperbaric oxygen chambers that each weigh 2,000 pounds and are used in the advanced treatment of chronic wounds.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a non-invasive treatment method where oxygen levels can be returned to damaged tissues. The patient simply lies in the chamber, which is designed to “dive” the patient to depths equaling the pressure of being 60 feet below sea level. The treatment uses 100 percent medical-grade oxygen at increased atmospheric pressure to nourish all tissues, which allows the body to heal itself naturally.
This treatment is especially beneficial to the rising number of Lake County residents with chronic wounds resulting from diabetes, obesity, and radiation therapy. ■ will be undergoing renovation projects in the next several months to make the track and field complex second to none as a premier training destination for local, national, and international athletes. We will continue to support community programs and offer more opportunities to the youth in Lake County.”

The track and field complex at the NTC is the home of the Pure Athletics professional team, which includes 2012 Olympic competitors such as Tyson Gay, Kelly-Ann Baptiste, and Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie. ■
“Aside from having painful muscle spasms in my leg at night, I also suffered from unsightly spider veins that hurt when you touched them. It kept me from being active. After doing some research, I discovered Comprehensive Vein Center. Everyone there was so friendly, and they explained to me everything about my procedure. Afterward, I had no pain or downtime. PA Tom Tran did such a very beautiful job. He is personable, and he really cares about you. And now, I have no pain and my legs look great.”
