prologue
To represent young people in the global public health improvement, Center for Medical Students’ Activities (CIMSA) position itself in empowerment effort for Indonesian medical students. The organization mainly addresses the issue by focusing on medical education, professional and research exchange, public health, human rights and peace, and reproductive health including AIDS. The 62nd International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA) General Assembly held from August 1st until August 7th, 2013 in Santiago, Chile is one of the events that educate health issues and soft skills to medical students worldwide through each country’s delegates. Due to this consideration, CIMSA has selected medical students capable in conveying knowledge and skills obtained to their colleagues in their respective schools. We are truly honored to represent Indonesian medical student representatives. Theme Event: E-health:
“Technology-based Medicine. Bringing Future into Present.� The information and communication technologies are transforming health systems and services, leading to solutions that would be unthinkable decades ago. Different applications of technology have allowed revolutionize health management, continuing medical education and the quality and efficiency in diagnostic and therapeutic methods. Among the technologies used in healthcare, mobile technology is one of the most challenging and opportunities to generate an increase in health at the global level, especially for developing countries. The technological breakthrough allows our society experience generating multiple opportunities to improve the quality and accessibility of health on our planet, especially in the poorest and most isolated. It is a fact that in all developing countries, in quantitative terms, there are over 2,200 million mobile phones and 350 million personal computers, but only 11 million hospital beds. This is an opportunity to leverage this technology to cover and promote health in various fields from collecting and recording information about patients to the formation of rural practitioners through the customization of how patients receive medical treatment. This is the new challenge facing us all. Therefore, we must be leaders and active participants in the dissemination and implementation of the solutions offered by technology.

General Assembly (GA) General Assembly (GA) is a biannual international conference held by IFMSA in March and August. This event is attended by around 700 participants who are representatives from many medical students’ organizations from 100 countries all over the globe. This 7-day-long event takes place after a series of workshops discussing special topics (named Pre-GA) and followed by various touristic programs to be selected from (named Post-GA). The General Assembly consists of several programs, amongst which are: 1. Standing Committee Session Six Standing Committee Sessions are held in parallel mode to discuss various topics related to the respective Standing Committee; on Medical Education (SCOME), on Professional Exchange (SCOPE), on Public Health (SCOPH), on Reproductive Health including AIDS (SCORA), on Research Exchange (SCORE), on Human Rights and Peace (SCORP). 2. Presidents’ Session A session held especially for the head from each student organization from every country to discuss IFMSA’s organizational matters, working programs, plans on organizational development, and other discussions related to managing IFMSA’s events in the international level. 3. Plenary Session Plenary Session is a session where decisions with the highest level of power in this organization are made; amongst which are amendments on the financial budget, election of the next officials, validation of various working programs, and consolidation of various policies regarding current global health matters. 5
4. Training Sessions This session aims to increase and discover potentials of members and officials to shape high-quality human resources in order to develop and build this organization. The topics include Leadership, Project Management, Empowerment, Conflict Resolution, Fundraising, Publication, Marketing and Advocacy. 5. Theme Event Theme events are a series of events that specifically discuss issues related to the Assembly’s theme. These may consist of workshops, round table discussions, lectures, or small working groups. Theme event for this GA is discussed in ‘Proposed Theme’ section of this proposal. 6. Project Fair & Presentation During these sessions many best projects and events held by IFMSA in various countries will be presented. 7. Contract Fair The contract fair is the agenda where validations and agreements on exchange contracts are made between countries, both for the Standing Committee on Professional Exchange and on Research Exchange. Each year, 11.000 medical students are involved in the IFMSA student exchange program. 8. Opening and Closing Ceremony These ceremonies, as their names suggest, are conducted at the beginning and end of the General Assembly. It is of our highest hopes and wishes that the representative of our government can attend them. 9. Social Programs Social programs are sessions where participants may socialize and strengthen ties of friendships with each other, also sessions where intercultural learning programs conducted.

activity details Pre-General Assembly (Pre-GA) The pre-GA workshop is conducted for 4 days, right before GA. It consists of various sessions and parallel workshops discussing particular topics, such as: 1. Presidents’ Workshop This session is targeted at the leaders of organizations from various countries to discuss diverse frequently encountered issues and other general matters on organizational development. 2. Training the Trainers This session aims to create new trainers, while at the same time to increase the skills of old trainers, so that a solid training team will be constructed which will afterwards strengthen IFMSA’s human resources. 3. Think-Global Workshops This agenda will consist of several parallel sessions, which will discuss various specific global health issues, such as migration, poverty, access to essential medicines, and other determinant factors of health. 4. International Peer Education Training Workshop To improve the current peer education projects in IFMSA, as well as to empower medical students to set up and develop a peer education project in their country, focusing on prevention / health promotion in youth. 5. Exchange Workshop IFMSA’s exchange program is well established and offers medical students throughout the world the opportunity to participate in clerkships, research activities, exchanges, and electives across the world. IFMSA runs two different exchange programs; Professional Exchange and Research Exchange. 6. The IFMSA Training and Resources Development This program exists to provide training to medical students worldwide and empower them with the knowledge and skills necessary for action in the health field; one of them is Fundraising and Marketing training. The prime aim of Fundraising and Marketing session is to improve the communication, co-ordination and co-operation between medical students internationally about Fundraising and Marketing problems. 7
It is planned for 8-10 other workshops to be held in parallel, some of which to be suggested by the organizer that would be related to the theme. Post-General Assembly (Post-GA) Post GA Tour is an event carried out after GA, for 5 days. This program distinctively aims to offer several touristic packages to participants as an effort to promote Chile’s tourism. The offered choices include touristic sites, which accentuate the beauty of nature, traditional arts, or Chilean traditional cuisine.

IFMSA For more than 60 years, IFMSA has existed and been led by medical students worldwide. The International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) was founded in 1951. It is the world’s oldest and largest independent organization representing associations of medical students internationally. It currently maintains 108 National Member Organizations from more than 100 countries across six continents with over 1.2 million students represented worldwide. IFMSA is recognized as a non-governmental organization within the United Nations’ system and the World Health Organization and as well, it works with the World Medical Association. IFMSA was created to impact the world and to empower its members in taking their vision and ideas, and making them a reality. IFMSA has inspired generations of medical students to develop the leadership abilities and skills to take on challenges and to improve the world around them in a crucial period of their career. Engaging in IFMSA encourages both professional and personal collaborations irrespective of geographical, social, cultural, religious, racial, sexual and political differences. As a result, future doctors are becoming more culturally aware and sensitive physicians. IFMSA’s field of work is shown by its 6 program sectors represented by 6 Standing Committees; which are the Standing Committees on Medical Education, on Professional Exchange, on Public Health, on Reproductive Health including AIDS, on Research Exchange, and on Human Rights and Peace. IFMSA’s mission is to facilitate future doctors by comprehensive introduction to global health issues. Through given programs and opportunities, IFMSA aims to develop medical students who are sensitive towards culture and wish to bring change upon trans-national

CIMSA Center for Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities (CIMSA) is an independent, inclusive, nationalistic, non-profit, and non-partisan medical student organization in Indonesia. CIMSA in individually based with members being medical students from all over Indonesia. Established in 2001, it has grown from 6 local members into 17 locals with approximately 5500 members. CIMSA aims to become a medium for medical student’s activities in Indonesia, so that they can develop themselves and express their idealisms. Besides that, CIMSA aims to give equal chances to every medical student in this nation for contributing to the health field as early as possible and for giving real positive results to the development of this nation. Activities conducted by CIMSA doesn’t only cover local and national levels, but also international. CIMSA’s activity has the philosophy of Think Globally, Act Locally, with the global knowledge and wisdom owned by each local, so that they can reach their targets optimally and productively. CIMSA’s field of work covers reproductive health including AIDS, public health, medical education, human rights and peace, and students’ exchange on research and clinical rotation. Some activities routinely done by CIMSA are ACTION (Asian Collaborative Training on Infectious Disease, Outbreaks, Natural Disasters and Refugee Management) Project, ACHP (Asian Community Health Project), World Diabetes Day, ITESS (International Tsunami and Earthquake Summer School), World No Tobacco Day, World AIDS Day, trainings, workshops,

plan of actions Our Missions: 1. To represent Indonesian medical students in international medical students forum. 2. To support empowerment of Indonesian medical students through international network. 3. To promote Indonesian culture in international forum. 4. As a form of participation, as a continuity after Indonesia held the previous General Assembly. Aims and Expectations: 1. Indonesian medical students’ participation in global public health and exchange programs. 2. International network providing technical and financial support for the upcoming national programs.

sponsorship Cooperation • Cooperation happen if the two sides (sponsor and the applicant) signed a letter that was provided and the sponsor support the program. • Cooperation happen if the sponsor financially supports the delegates and the delegates may promote the sponsor during and/or after the program. • The promotion will be done by the applicant, to be agreed by both parties so that the objectives of the cooperation could be reached. Payment System • Payment system may be done by cash or by transfer to an account that has been agreed.
epilogue It is with hope and enthusiasm that our participation will engrave the ideas that will form the basis of real action relating to the health and future. Ideas and contributions made to our attention as a form of youth and health actors in the design of health in the future. We believe our espousal can invest for a healthier Indonesia.
