Why
Should I Suffer
all
the time
?
Editorial This month celebrated the auspicious occasion of Paryushan. On this special event, we would like to take our readers on a special quest to find the answer to the question which has popped up in all our minds sometime or the other… “Why do I have to suffer all the time?” In response to this question, Pujyashree tells a Youth about the formation of prakruti and how “Only the one who drinks poison, can become a Shiv”. We will also read an excerpt from the book “Fault is of the Sufferer”, which tells us why. We also have a moral story guiding us as to how Obstacles are in a way stepping stones to success. This last month also saw the demise of Dr. APJ Kalam. His life was a fitting example to us that all people are great not because they do not have any obstacles, but because they overcome the obstacles and use them as stepping stones to their success. Such an experience is also shared by one of our youth.

The Origin of God Shankar
04 | September 2015
Pujyashri: The Lord Shiva or Mahadev or Shankar are the names that point in one direction, i.e. Shiv Swaroop (form). Haven't you heard words like 'Jeev'(life) and 'Shiv'? Questioner: Yes Pujyashri: When you know that you are Krunal you are 'Jeev' swaroop or in embodied form. When you get the right knowledge that you are not 'Jeev' but “Shuddhatma (Pure Soul), you have attained Shiv Swaroop. Once you attain that stage, you remain calm and composed in any adverse situation caused due to insults, pain or abuses from people. This is called "NILKANTH" which means you have absorbed poison (in the form of abuses) and in turn you bless the people who have caused it for you. That's the true meaning. But people then weave theories around facts and goof up mythological stories. Isn't it so?

Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh are all symbolic characters indicating fundamental qualities of Prakrati. They represent those qualities. They are projected as the Head of respective qualities but they don't exist in physical form. “Sato-rajo-tamo” are 3 gunas (qualities) that are being represented through their medium. It carries a deeper meaning. Otherwise it is difficult for common people to worship such virtues without an imprint in mind. But then people gradually made them God in real form. It's like making 'A' as apple while studying 'A' for apple and identify B as Bat instead of 'B' for Bat.
This was for illustration purpose only. But people made stories comprising them as characters. Just as the combination of factors give rise to different phases in moon (such as ekam, bij, etc), combination of evidences with Pure Soul gave rise to 'Jeev' forms (life embodied). This is due to self ignorance and scientific circumstantial evidence of the forces of Prakrati. When one overcomes that and understands material differences, he attains 'Shiv Swaroop' i.e. state of 'Pure Soul'- free from any bondage. Do you understand? Thus Shiv, Nilkanth, Shankar are all the same.

iva kar Joshi at 60 was liked by people living nearby, especially the youth, owing to his vast knowledge and experience that provided suitable guidance for development in life. Manmit Kaur, a young aspirant was his neighbor and he too was deeply influenced by Divakar Joshi's broad vision and foresight. Manmit had just turned 25 and was about to start a new career. It was 5 o'clock in the evening and Divakar was relaxing in his armchair enjoying the fading sunlight. He saw Manmit entering the main gate in a hurry. He looked quite upset and was not normal. In a flash Divakar remembered his conversation with Manmit 13 years back when he had asked the young boy as to what were his dream plans! Manmit had then replied, “Uncle I want to be a big man and earn a lot of money”. Divakar could notice a rare spark in his attitude. 08 | September 2015
and amongst the children he was the youngest of the lot. So most of the time he was at the receiving end in case of tussle with the siblings. Ever since, he carried an impression that one who grows big or is elder never suffers any pain. They pass it on to the younger and small ones. Those who earn money are free from all difficulties and pain in life. Once it happened that his cousin brother Ajit scolded him heavily. Manmit complained to his mother that he was not at fault but that Ajit was wrong and rude. But his mother was much preoccupied with her household work to pay any attention to his complaint. So she said, “He is your elder brother. What's wrong if he scolds you? Listen to him”. Manmit was shocked. He went crying down to Divakar's place and wept heavily.
“Am I a dustbin that everyone throws their garbage on me? Once I grow big no one will dare say anything to me. ”
D
ivakar lovingly consoled him on that occasion. But this event left a lasting impression on Manmit's mind and he thought once he grows up he will not have to suffer any more. All this is happening to him because he is young. After completing his graduation and diploma in Event Management studies, Manmit finally got a prestigious job as an Event Manager in a big company. He felt highly elevated as he had waited all through his life for this day. He was always being abused amongst friends and siblings at home. He was convinced that all his suffering will disappear and he will be able to enjoy his freedom since he started earning now. He shared such feelings with Divakar, who in turn alerted him - “Your new found post doesn't mean all will be rosy from now on. Now you will face different kind of struggle. It's not that God has blessed you forever. Sufferings will be there. Be prepared.” It was barely a month now and Divakar could visibly spot the same complaining attitude in his appearance. Divakar was Manmit's idol and he knew exactly what was troubling him. So he straightened up and got prepared to welcome Manmit.
M
anmit entered the house and placed his head on Divakars bosom. He said dejectedly. “I don't find happiness anywhere. All my dreams are broken. Today very high profile experts visited our office for inspection and appraisement. I couldn't believe some of my colleagues insulted me in front of them and my image was reduced to a popper. I don't understand why all these things are happening to me and I am made to suffer pain every time? There seems to be no end to this.” Divakar tried to sympathize with him. But he was in no mood to understand any advice. He got up clinching his fists and saying aloud “Enough is enough”. I am not going to tolerate this anymore. I will teach them a lesson. He was thirsty for revenge. And Divakar was puzzled as to how to make this fellow understand the philosophy of life?
Let's see what
Dadashri says about this... Akram Youth | 09
Gnani's Scientific Solutions
Q
uestioner: Dada, when someone insults, it's difficult to tolerate! Please advise what to do? Dadashri: See this is how it works. Suppose there is a thorn on the road and many people walk on the path but none are affected. But when Chandubhai walks across, he gets pricked by the thorn and injures himself. All these experiences, sweet or bitter, exactly happen as per our account. You should be happy that one account of bitter experience is squared up today. Same thing applies when you feel sweet results. You don't like the bitter taste ,Why? Tell someone to fight with you, but he may refuse. All that happens to us is what we have already accounted for. It is only now that they are unfolding what was rehearsed earlier. It's not a joke. Everything that happens till our death, is purely a form of discharge. Nobody has power to alter it or that what is to follow. Let's say someone will send 301 insults, another say 25, and yet another say 10. That will happen. If you remain in awareness (Gnan) then there will be no suffering. Sweet and bitter are both relative in nature. Sometimes you may be surprised to gain the best of experience from someone who has all along been giving you troubles! We all are in a kind of trader-customer relationship. If someone causes you pain or suffering, just digest it and bless him. This way your ego will come down and you will gradually get liberated from this account. It will also affect the other person and he may soften his attitude. He may realize 10 | September 2015
you are strong enough to swallow bitter pills. Suppose we have to eat bitter food, would we do it on our own? No. So when someone offers it, we have to be see it as a blessing. The one who serves us food is called mother. So we should not return, but swallow it. There is no escape. We m u s t t e l l ' C h a n d u b h a i ' (yourself) that you will have to swallow your pride and accept bitterness, as many times as it comes. This way 'Chandubhai' will become habituated. (Just like giving medicine to a small child). He will at first be uncomfortable, but when he realizes it is beneficial for him to swallow it, it doesn't trouble anymore. One must learn the art of digesting 'bitter pills' along with sweet moments. One must practice enough because sooner or later, he has to encounter bitterness. Even I had lots of sufferings. But I faced them gracefully and completed my account. In fact, I blessed those who had caused them. That's how the name Mahadev (Shiv) has become synonymous with us.

A
fter shifting to Simandhar City in 2013, I came in contact with Aptaputras. By the end of 2014, I felt that people give respect and then insult me. Moreover, two-three persons would form a group and target me. Gradually, this started increasing, But since I had studied 'Nij dosh darshan thi nirdosh', I used to feel that “the fault is of the sufferer; all of them are 100 percent innocent.” I applied this Gnan of Dada on myself, and tried to maintain unity. Inspite of all my efforts, this went on endlessly to such an extent that if this was to happen with anyone ealse, he would have gone into depression! But I decided to find out some solution. One person was advising me: “Remember, your strong determination to stay on despite all adverse circumstances will take you ahead with Dada`s Gnan, but there should be no malice within you towards anybody” I thought over it and then decided to approach Pujyashree
Deepakbhai. I wrote out my problems and handed over the letter to Pujyashree. He enquired whether I was contacting any Aptputra for guidance. Some days later, I received phone call from an Aptputra who informed”: I have received Pujyashree's letter from vastly instructing me to help out Shyam in all his problems. So now whenever you need my help, or if you have any questions, feel free to phone me any time – even late after midnight! This is Pujyashree's 'Agna' to me for helping you.” On hearing this, I had great gratitude towards Pujyashree that he was so concerned for a small guy like me. Recently, I went to him for blessings on my birthday. Pujyashri blessed me that I would receive Dadashree's Grace! This is my divine experience with the Gnani. If you wish to come out of any problem, you have to make a strong determination for it. Thereafter, Gnani's grace will take over! Akram Youth | 11
Glimpses of Great Souls Dr. A. P. J Abdul Kalam - a scientist and a gentleman – an example that despite poor or uncomfortable conditions one can struggle and rise to the highest peaks through sheer hard work, determination and sincerity. Even the fame and power could not get the better of him and he lived quite a down-to-earth life. He continued to work and was active till his last breath. Not often do we come across such a person, with so much of honor and dignity achieved in one lifetime. It is worth spending some time and looking into his life is events:
E
ducation : Kalam scored average grades in school but was described as a bright and hardworking student who had a strong desire to learn. He spent hours on his studies, especially mathematics. He did his graduation in physics from Saint Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli. He moved to Madras in 1955 to study aerospace engineering in Madras Institute of Technology. Even the Dean of his college recalls. 'I used to set the toughest deadlines for Kalam to deliver a project and put him under stress. But Kalam delivered his best performance and impressed me with his work.''

A. P. J Abdul Kalam
The Missile Man of India He studied physics and aerospace engineering and joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) as scientist. His achievements include designing a small helicopter for the Indian Army, developing missiles including Agni, an intermediate range ballistic missile and Prithvi, the tactical surface-to-surface missile. He also played a pivotal role in organizing during India's Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998 and was in the thick of actions in India's civilian space program and military missile development projects.

r. Raja Raman: Great scientist of Atomic Research landed his full confidence in support of Kalam to head the Defense Research & Design Laboratory (DRDL) for ongoing projects in testing missile technology.
r. S Subramanium Iyer: His school teacher when he was in class V. He showed a bird and asked – “Where is the engine”? Then he clarified that inspiration to fly comes from the inner core, from where the strength is derived for action. This incident influenced him to become a rocket engineer.
INTERACTIONS with the youth Student: Many students draw ambitious plans but they get bogged down by financial crisis. How do they overcome these hurdles? Dr. Kalam : If they secure high grades in school exams then it is possible they get to avail the facility of educational loans from Banks. If you aim high then obstacles will always be there in life in some area or the other. The moot point is that it should not become a permanent block to our progress and we must apply persistent hard work and strong determination and finally win over the hurdle. Student: Sir, why don't we explore oceans rather than Space for research? Dr. Kalam : Ocean has boundaries in the Earth whereas the outer space is boundless. The whole Cosmos is our friend and willing to give its very best to people who dream big. Student: We students tend to forget our own cultural values, in light of attractions to the western world. What's your suggestion to overcome this problem? Dr. Kalam : We should take a class per week, for an hour at least, for debate or discussion in our schools, on any of the famous personalities like Buddha, Saint Augustine, Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, Gandhiji etc. Such an exercise will help our youth to be more familiar with the knowledge and wisdom of great people and will gradually shape them to become more civilized human beings.
Dr. Kalam's message: Today's youth is our prize possession. We should treat both genders equally and provide composite infrastructure. The work of teachers is far more important. They are like spinal cord in a human body which supports the whole system. He used to say “Today, if you commit a sin, though a very small one, and take it lightly, then tomorrow it will assume higher proportions. It would mean you have given a free ticket to sin in your consciousness and you will lose sensitivity. Always think of achieving higher realms of evolution” He was a legend in the true sense and an inspiration for our future generation. We all feel proud to salute such a distinguished personality who happened to be one amongst us! 14 | September 2015
Solutions to our problems
Q
: How can one handle the difficulties we come across in life?
A
: Life is full of problems. There is no life without difficulties. Each problem leaves behind a new experience and gives us new knowledge. In life, there can be no progress without problems. When some oil spills on the road, what happens then? Instead of moving ahead, the vehicles stop and turn over as the road becomes slippery. The friction with the road is no more there, so the vehicle cannot move ahead and thus turns over. It is by friction that progress is achieved. Similarly, when we face difficulties in life, we progress. We lose if we feel defeated with problems. We should stand up against it, with all our
strength and patience. If necessary, we should take the help of elderly people and advice from teachers and friends. By constant efforts, one can find ways to solve them. Whilst attempting to climb the wall, a spider may fall several times, yet it does not give up attempting and finally succeeds in its attempt. There is a saying, “If you are a man, be bold: then God will help you.” Even Swami Vivekananda has said, “Arise! Awake! And stop not until the goal is reached!”

t n e m h s i n o t s A f O l o d I An A near relative of Dada used to visit him regularly. As such he was a noble man. He was living in a joint family where business and money matters were handled by other members of the family. He was ignored for participation in any matters in day to day routine life. He was not provided with sufficient money for his expenses. He was even denied for his share that rightfully belonged to him. In short he was hated by all. He was very much dejected as he went to meet Dada. While he was waiting in the drawing room, as Dadashri had gone to freshen up, he saw Dadashri's coat hanging on the wall. Dada always used to keep some money in his coat. So this fellow, seizing the opportunity stole a hundred rupee note from Dada's coat. But it so happened that while he was stealing the money, Dada incidentally stepped into the room. He saw him stealing but instantly turned away his face as if he hadn't noticed this. Dada entertained that man with normal talks and offered him tea and refreshments. The man went back 16 | September 2015
happily. Next day again he turned up as usual. Dadashri was totally calm and helpful. It never occurred to him – “Let me put my money in a safe place or remove my wallet from the coat” etc. There was no negativity in his mind for this man. How was it so? Dadashri used to say - “I never form an opinion that this man is a thief.” The law of 'Vyavasthit' always remains at the back of my mind. There are two types of thieves. One is regular and habitual type who acts without any rationale. Whereas the one who is compelled by the circumstances around him that he is not capable of handling is a kind of 'forced' thief. “This man belonged to this latter type. Nevertheless, I refrain from forming any kind of opinion to avoid attachment towards that person, be it positive or negative. This way I remain free from any influence that may arise due to attachment. If an opinion is formed then one feels the bondage and it weighs heavily to cause tension. By remaining unbiased you feel lighter.”

IN NATURE'S COURT
Dada’s Book Excerpt
Dadashri: There are many judges in this world, but in the world of karma there is only one natural justice: 'The Fault Is of the Sufferer'. This is the only justice. This justice governs the entire universe. The justice of the world is illusionary justice and it perpetuates worldly life. Nature's law governs this world at all times. Those who deserve merit are given merit and those who deserve punishment are punished. Nothing operates outside the law of nature. The law of nature is completely just, but because one does not understand it, he does not accept it. When one's understanding becomes pure; he will be able to accept this nature's justice. As long as one has a selfish outlook, justice cannot be seen.
In reality, You are free... but you suffer
bondage because of your mistakes. 18 | September 2015
WHERE IS THE NEED FOR SUFFERING FOR THE LORD OF THE UNIVERSE?
THIS LAW IS WRONG ACCORDING TO PEOPLE
Dadashri: The ownership of this world is ours. We are the masters of this universe. Then, why do we suffer? It is because of our past mistakes that we suffer. We are bound by our own mistakes. There is liberation for us, once these mistakes are destroyed. If someone steals your wallet, whose fault is it? Why is that only your wallet was stolen and not anyone else's? Of the two parties involved, who is the one that is suffering now? The mistake is of the one who suffers. I can see this in my Gnan exactly as it is, that the fault is of the sufferer.
Dadashri: A man on a motorbike riding on the wrong side of the road hits a cyclist. The cyclist breaks his leg. Now who is the sufferer? Questioner: The cyclist. Dadashri: Yes, because of his past account. Questioner: But what fault is it of the person who is hurt? Dadashri: His fault is from his past account, which is being settled today. One only suffers because of one's past accounts. Questioner: Should the cyclist believe that it was his own mistake and not ask for compensation from the other rider? Dadashri: It is not that he should refrain from doing anything, but he should not have any resultant mental consequences. He should do whatever needs to be done, but he should do so without any raag (attachment) or dvesh (hatred) towards the other person. The one, who acknowledges his fault, will feel neither attachment nor hatred. You must do whatever is required of you in the worldly life. If a policeman asks you your name, you
WHAT IF THE OTHER PERSON DOES NOT UNDERSTAND? Questioner: There are some who just do not understand, even though our behavior towards them is very friendly. Dadashri: It is our own mistake that they do not understand. Why did you come across this particular person and not someone with understanding? Whenever you experience any suffering, it is as a result of your own mistakes. Questioner: Are we to understand that such is our karma? Dadashri: Absolutely. There is no one in this world that can inflict the slightest of suffering on you, and if someone does, he is merely a nimit (instrument) in it.

have to give it to him. You have to play your worldly role and fulfill your responsibilities but it should be done as though you are an actor in a play, without any raag or dvesh. The world only accepts that which it sees, through the eyes and so as a witness you have to give your evidence, but you should not have any raag or dvesh towards the scooter rider, because in reality he is not at fault. People blame him because that is what they see. It is their misperception that makes them see this as injustice. Questioner: Yes. That is correct. Dadashri: If a person is hurting you, he is not at fault. The fault is yours if you are suffering. This is the law of nature. The worldly law says that one who inflicts pain is at fault. GRATITUDE FOR THE ONE WHO RELEASES YOU FROM THE BONDAGE OF KARMA Dadashri: A mother-in-law is constantly harassing her daughter in- law. The daughter-in-law is consumed with the way she is being treated. Day and night, she is preoccupied with thoughts of this abuse. Would this not make her miserable? Questioner: Yes. Dadashri: Her misery will affect her physical health. The effect of this maltreatment will not allow her to have positive thoughts. How can she be helped? We should explain to her that it is because of the karmic account of her past life that she has to endure her 20 | September 2015
present circumstances. She should settle that account. Then we should show her how to settle her accounts. Her mother-in-law is not at fault. The fault is of the sufferer. She will cease to blame her mother-in-law. Then she will be at peace. No one is at fault. The fault is of the person who blames others. There is nobody at fault in this world. Everyone gets what he or she deserves according to his or her karma. They are not creating new faults today. Today's situation is the result of past karma. Today he may repent but since he has already made the contract in his previous life, he has no choice but to fulfill it. Even an eye contact, cannot take place without past accounts, so how can these events take place without past accounts? Whatever you have given to others, you will receive in return. If you accept it gladly, you will be settling your account. If you do not accept it, you will have to suffer.
The fault is Yours if you are This is the law of
suffering

Shake It Off
O
ne day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried terribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he calmed down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

dealing. The list is endless. But there is a solution. The above story teaches us the trick to get out of the well (the spot we are in) 'Shake it off and take a step up'. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up!
W
e have seen Niruma and Pujyashree making arduous trips to remote places to make people familiar with Dada's Gnan. In the process they also face many difficulties. There were times when they spent hours in travelling and there was no one to take care of them or look after properly. But their effort was relentless. Similarly if we study the life of successful people we will find they too had their share of struggle in life. Not that everything became smooth overnight. They came out successful by sheer hard work, sincerity and honesty in their approach. One who gulps the bitter pill and digests it, emerges the winner.
