• AVISO PÚBLICO • ENMIENDA PROPUESTA A LA CONSTITUCIÓN DE PENNSYLVANIA La siguiente es una traducción fiel y exacta de una resolución conjunta de la Asamblea General de Pennsylvania en la que se propone una enmienda a la Constitución de Pennsylvania. De conformidad con los procedimientos establecidos en el Artículo XI, Sección 1 de la Constitución, la Asamblea General propuso por primera vez la enmienda durante la sesión de 2016 y la aprobó por segunda vez durante la sesión de la legislatura de 2017. Titular, sin embargo, que Filadelfia ya no ocupa el vergonzoso primer lugar de muertes por sobredosis entre los 67 condados de Pensilvania, es un dato nuevo y un tanto macabro si es que la noticia sugiere que hay razones para celebrar. Ese fue el hecho destacado por medios locales luego de que la Administración de Control de Drogas (DEA, por su sigla en inglés) hizo público el pasado jueves un análisis en el que la entidad muestra la dimensión de la crisis de adicción a los opioides a nivel estatal. Según el Analysis of Overdose Deaths in Pennsylvania, durante 2016 un promedio de 13 personas murieron de sobredosis diariamente en el estado. En total, 4.642 personas perdieron la vida en Pensilvania por causas relacionadas al consumo de drogas. Fulton, que en 2015 ocupó el puesto 32 entre los condados con más casos registrados, en 2016 saltó al primer lugar con 74 muertes por cada 100.000 habitantes. Filadelfia tiene la quinta tasa más alta de estas muertes con 59.4 por cada 100.000 habitantes. La DEA obtuvo estas cifras luego de juntar y analizar los reportes elaborados por personal médico a lo largo y ancho del estado. Según el mismo, la sustancia con mayor incidencia en esos decesos fue el fentanilo, presente en el 52 por ciento de los casos. La heroína fue la segunda sustancia ilícita con más incidencia en los fallecimientos (45 por ciento de los casos), seguida por la benzodiazepina (33%), la cocaína (27%) y opioides bajo prescripción médica (25%). El reporte también estableció que la tasa de muertes por sobredosis en el estado superó la nacional al alcanzar las 36.5 muertes por cada 4 / AGOSTO 2 - 9, 2017 / ALDÍAnews.com

100.000 habitantes. En 2015, la misma tasa a nivel nacional fue de 16.3 por cada 100.000 habitantes. El informe, elaborado en colaboración con la Escuela de farmacología de la Universidad de Pittsburg, (PERU, por su sigla en inglés), arroja claves sobre las comunidades más afectadas por las muertes: 77% blancos, 12% afroamericanos, 4% hispanos y 7% sin identificar.

LA ESTRATEGIA DE FILADELFIA

En mayo pasado la alcaldía de Filadelfia dio a conocer su plan integral para enfrentar la epidemia. Las acciones consignadas en el informe se clasifican en cuatro categorías: prevención y educación, en la que se enmarca todo lo referente a generar consciencia social e institucional sobre el tema; tratamiento, en el que el énfasis es sobre la necesidad de ampliar la capacidad y la calidad de atención a pacientes; prevención de sobredosis, en donde se aconsejan una serie de medidas encaminadas a salvar vidas; y trabajo con el sistema de justicia criminal, en la que se habla de fortalecer el accionar policial en contra de las mafias y de medidas alternativas para el tratamiento judicial del consumo de la drogas. Para el equipo autor del plan, es urgente que las autoridades pongan en marcha campañas dirigidas a educar a la población sobre los riesgos del consumo de drogas legales (por prescripción médica) e ilegales, el uso de medicamentos como la naloxona en casos de sobredosis, y para desestigmatizar los servicios dirigidos a atender personas con adicción. En su informe, el equipo especial de la alcaldía para enfrentar la epidemia de opioides le recordó a la municipalidad garantizar centros que reúnan las condiciones apropiadas para la atención integral de los pacientes y para que

puedan permanecer en ellos el tiempo necesario sin que los costos del servicio se conviertan en una barrera para su desintonxicación.

LIMPIAN ‘EL CAMPAMENTO’

El pasado lunes 31 de julio se iniciaron las labores de remoción de basura, jeringas y otros desechos abandonados a lado y lado de las vías del tren que atraviesan Gurney Street entre Kensington Avenue y la calle segunda. Sin duda estadísticas como las publicadas por la DEA son necesarias para diseñar e implementar políticas públicas dirigidas a enfrentar los problemas que afectan a la sociedad en su conjunto, como la drogadicción; pero el peligro de las cifras es que al no tener rostros pueden llevar a que se apliquen soluciones sin tener en cuenta la particularidad de cada caso, muchas veces con el afán de generar titulares como el registrado hace unos días por un medio local en el que se destacaba que Filadelfia ya no ocupaba el primer lugar entre los condados con más muertes por sobredosis, lo cual da una idea falsa de que las cosas están mejorando, cuando en la calle -así acaben con ‘El Campamento’- el infierno sigue. n

ace exactamente cinco años –en junio de 2012– el gobierno del entonces presidente Barack Obama emitió una orden ejecutiva para poner en marcha un nuevo programa de inmigración que iba a cambiar el destino de miles de jóvenes indocumentados en todo el país. Se trata del Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), un programa que concede el derecho a vivir y a trabajar a todos aquellos inmigrantes que hayan entrado al país de forma irregular con menos de 16 años de edad y bajo la condición de no haber cometido ningún crimen o infracción penal. El programa también exige que los solicitantes estén matriculados en algún instituto superior o hayan terminado los estudios de secundaria, así como que hayan residido en el país con anterioridad a junio de 2007. Desde entonces, el programa ha permitido regularizar la situación de más de 750.000 inmigrantes indocumentados en todo el país –los lla-

mados ‘dreamers’– el 75% de origen mexicano, según un informe del Pew Research Center. El permiso es temporal y está sujeto a un proceso de renovación cada dos años. Cerca de 512.000 esperan poder renovar su permiso DACA cuando termine el año fiscal, el 30 de septiembre según el estudio del Pew. Hasta ahora, la renovación del DACA –aunque un proceso algo engorroso a nivel burocrático– era fácil de conseguir. Para los beneficiarios de este programa, renovar su estatus legal es fundamental para continuar sus estudios universitarios o tener acceso a un buen empleo, librándose de tener que vivir en la sombra o bajo el miedo a ser deportados como el resto de indocumentados. Pero ahora, con la llegada de Donald Trump a la Casa Blanca, todo puede cambiar. Tal y como prometió durante su campaña electoral, la administración del presidente republicano ha puesto en marcha una política de mano dura contra los inmigrantes indocumentados –cebándose especialmente en los latinos– a quienes acusa de ser responsables del aumento del crimen y la inseguridad en el país.

(Deferred Action for Parents Arrivals) que pretendía extender los beneficios del DACA a los inmigrantes con hijos residentes en EEUU o con nacionalidad estadounidense. El memorándum de la ley DAPA había quedado en suspensión al no haber obtenido la aprobación de la Corte Suprema en 2014.

ARRESTOS CRECIENTES

En los últimos seis meses, los arrestos y redadas en las comunidades inmigrantes por parte de las agentes de inmigración y aduanas han aumentado. La administración Trump ha anunciado también la contratación de más de 15.000 nuevos agentes de inmigración y aduanas, así como la aprobación de una nueva ley para castigar con recortes de fondos públicos a las llamadas “ciudades santuario” si no colaboran en el intercambio de datos con los agentes de inmigración para identificar a los indocumentados. Dentro de este contexto de miedo, los DACA parecen haberse librado hasta ahora de ser un objetivo de deportación de la administración Trump. Desde su llegada al poder, en enero, el presidente Trump ha asegurado en diversas ocasiones que su gobierno respetará los derechos de los ‘dreamers’, muchos de los cuales han crecido en EEUU y no tienen contacto con su país de origen, el que abandonaron de pequeños. En una rueda prensa en febrero, Trump dijo que su gobierno “iba a mostrar un gran corazón” con todos esos “increíbles muchachos”, contradiciendo su promesa electoral de termi-

nar con el DACA. El pasado mayo, el secretario de Seguridad Nacional John Kelly volvió a insistir en que el programa se quedará como está, a pesar de las críticas del ala más radical del partido republicano, que exigen que sea eliminado. Hace dos semanas, un grupo de 10 estados “rojos”, liderados por el fiscal general de Texas, envió una carta a la Casa Blanca exigiendo la inmediata eliminación del programa, alegando que “el DACA confiere de forma unilateral la elegibilidad para obtener un permiso de trabajo y la presencia legal en el territorio sin la autorización estatuaria del Congreso”. De momento, la administración Trump no se ha pronunciado todavía, pero el hecho de que el programa DACA fuese impuesto bajo una “orden ejecutiva” del presidente Obama, da derecho al actual gobierno a revocarlo en cualquier momento, según alertan la asociación de derechos de los inmigrantes, HIAS Pennsylvania. El gobierno por un lado promete que seguirá procesando aplicaciones para obtención y renovación del DACA, pero los casos recientes de detención y amenazas de deportaciones de ‘dreamers’ por todo el país han sembrado el miedo en esta joven comunidad. El caso más polémico ha sido el de Jessica Colotl, una inmigrante mexicana de 28 años residente en Georgia que fue detenida a principios de mayo por las agentes del ICE y amenazada con la deportación al verse retirada del programa DACA. Alegando una violación de las normas de tráfico cometida por Colotl en 2010, los agentes de Inmigración y Aduanas (ICE) comunicaron el lunes la retirada de los privilegios del DACA por no cumplir con uno de los requisitos básicos: no haber cometido ningún crimen o infracción menor. Después de un mes de luchas con abogados, la inmigrante, estudiante en la Kennesaw State University, ha conseguido que un juez revoque la decisión de ICE. Según informaba el Atlanta Journal Constitution, un juez del condado de Cobby logró desestimar primero la violación de tránsito cometida por Colotl como argumento para expulsarla del programa, alegando que la inmigrante ya había sido “perdonada” por esa infracción bajo el mandato de Obama. No obstante, las fuerzas de lCE se aferraron a otra acusación –felonía– sosteniendo que Colotl había admitido su falta ante los agentes del ICE, lo que obligó a los abogados de la joven a llevar su caso ante un juez federal. “Es simplemente sorprendente ver que bajo la administración Obama pude renovar mi aplicación al DACA sin problemas. El lunes, un juez federal en Atlanta dictaminó que la inmigrante mexicana fuera readmitida en el programa DACA y se detuviera su proceso de deportación. Desde la puesta en marcha del programan, en 2012, más de 1.500 ‘dreamers’ han visto cómo su estatus legal privilegiado ha sido revocado por las autoridades de inmigración y Aduanas, según The New York Times. Sin embargo, casos como el suyo han puesto en evidencia que la administración Trump está mirando con lupa el requisito básico para la renovación del DACA: no haber cometido ningún crimen, y pequeñas infracciones como una multa de tránsito pueden ahora sembrar una situación de pánico entre los ‘dreamers’. También en el estado de Georgia, un beneficiario del programa federal DACA fue arrestado a principios de año y en riesgo de deportación pese que el juez desestimó los cargos por los que fue detenido. Rubén González Guzmán, de 22 años, originario de Reynosa, Tamaulipas (México), fue arrestado tras ser acusado de participar en el robo de un vehículo, aunque los investigadores comprobaron luego que no estaba involucrado en el hecho delictivo y la acusación fue retirada antes de que sea traslado al centro de detención, según EFE. “Es un muchacho que trabaja en la construcción y los fines de semana ayuda a los vecinos cortando la yarda. El sueño de Rubén era entrar en los marines y continuar ayudando a su comunidad”, expresó Efe Araceli Guzmán, madre del joven. Al tratar de detenerlo, el conductor del vehículo emprendió la fuga, pero finalmente fue interceptado por las autoridades. El conductor huyó y Rubén, que era uno de los pasajeros, se quedó para hablar con las autoridades. Byron Martínez, director de la organización United We Stand, comentó a EFE que al momento del su arresto el joven tenía el DACA vigente y estaba en proceso de renovación de este programa federal que otorga alivio migratorio a los jóvenes traídos por sus padres cuando eran menores de edad.

nte la necesidad inminente de proteger los derechos de los Dreamers, el pasado 20 de julio un grupo de senadores volvieron a introducir en el Congreso el ‘Dream Act’ (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act), una propuesta de ley bipartidista que pretende abrir el camino a la ciudanía para todos aquellos estudiantes indocumentados que hubiesen llegado a Estados Unidos siendo menores de edad. Según los impulsores de la ley, los senadores Richard Durbin (demócrata por Illinois) y Lindsey Graham (republicano por Carolina del Sur), la Dream Act beneficiaría a más de un millón de indocumentados (a parte de los ‘dreamers’). A parte de ampliar la edad máxima de entrada a los EEUU a 18 años para beneficiarse de la protección DACA, la nueva “Dream Act” exige que las fuerzas del ICE sean más indulgentes con los ‘dreamers’ que hayan tenido contacto con el sistema judicial o migratorio debido a faltas menores, por ejemplo, el impago de multas

No queda otro remedio que confiar. El secretario de Seguridad Nacional, John F. Kelly aseguró en junio que el DACA permanecería en vigor y que el gobierno “seguirá manteniendo en 1 millón la cifra de inmigrantes legales por año”. Según cifras reveladas el pasado junio por el Departamento de Ciudadanía e Inmigración, aproximadamente 17.000 inmigrantes han aplicado por primera vez para ampararse en el programa DACA desde enero de este año. Las estadísticas del Departamento de Inmigración revelan además que otros 107.000 inmigrantes que ya tienen el estatus solicitaron la renovación de su permiso DACA. Los requisitos para su obtención siguen siendo los mismos: haber entrado en el país con menos de 16 años con anterioridad a 2007, ser estudiante de cecundaria y no haber cometido ningún crimen o infracción penal. n

La incertidumbre continúa. “Todavía no sé qué va a suceder con mis papás y mi hermana”, explica, antes de contestar este breve cuestionario para AL DÍA: ¿Cómo cambió su vida cuando supo que podía aplicar para el programa DACA? Me quedé muy sorprendida cuando escuché hablar por primera vez del DACA. Tenía 17 años y pensé “este es el plástico que necesitaba para mejorar mi vida. Hasta entonces no creí que iba a poder trabajar en lo que me gustaba, ni siquiera tener licencia para conducir en Pensilvania o vivir sin miedo de ser detenida por el ICE. Lo más importante: nunca creí que iba a poder volver a mi país para visitar a mi familia o trabajar. Fui una privilegiada por reunir los requisitos para solicitar el DACA, porque hay muchos otros inmigrantes como yo, con ganas de vivir su sueño, que se quedan fuera del programa, ya que es muy limitado y muy específico. Es triste que en EEUU la humanidad de una persona, sus derechos, su integridad dependan de una tarjeta plástica. ¿Cree que va ser más complicado renovar el DACA bajo la administración Trump? Tuve que renovar mi DACA por tercera vez antes de las elecciones. Estaba nerviosa por si resultado de las presidenciales afectaría mi posibilidad de renovar el permiso y continuar formando parte de este programa. Recibí mi tarjeta DACA pocas semanas después de las elecciones. La DACA debe renovarse cada dos años y pagar $495 cada vez. ¿Cree que la comunidad DACA está en una situación más vulnerable, a pesar de las promesas de Trump de no eliminar el programa? Pienso que todos aquellos que cualifican para el DACA pueden ir a renovar sus permisos sin miedo, lo mismo digo para todos aquellos que van a solicitarlo por primera vez. Al fin y al cabo, estar en posesión del DACA les protege de deportaciones y le garantiza un permiso de trabajo, lo que puede ser de gran ayuda para mucha gente. Les puede ayudar a conseguir puestos de prácticas o empleos que realmente desean. Aunque también creo que la gente debería ir con cuidado y no dar por garantizada su protección: el permiso DACA ofrece solo una protección temporal ante las deportaciones, es solo un permiso de trabajo temporal. Los ‘dreamers’ no tienen vía a la ciudadanía y pueden perder su estatus en cualquier momento. Independientemente, aconsejaría a todos los beneficiarios del DACA que aprovechen al máximo las ventajas de su permiso y persigan sus sueños, pero que no se olviden nunca de seguir luchando por todos aquellos que no tuvieron esta oportunidad y se ayuden mutuamente en este proceso. ¿Cree que los derechos de los DACA en Pensilvania están bien protegidos? Llevamos a cabo estas actividades mediante acuerdos con organizaciones locales y despachos legales de Pensilvania. Nuestra organización también defiende a los beneficiarios del DACA cuando se producen retrasos a la hora de emitir o renovar sus permisos, poniendo en peligro sus puestos de trabajo o forzándoles a solicitar la baja administrativa debido a retrasos en la oficina de inmigración (USCIS). La PICC ha creado varios modelos de cartas para que los empleadores puedan dirigirse a los senadores estatales y solicitar apoyo para estos jóvenes indocumentados. Estamos encantados de ofrecer nuestra ayuda y material a cualquier persona que esté experimentando retrasos en su renovación de la DACA y necesite defenderse. l pasado abril, los presentes en una subasta de Sothebys en Nueva York escucharon atónitos como un multimillonario japonés pujaba hasta $110,5 millones por un cuadro del pintor Jean-Michel Basquiat. La venta se cerró con éxito y desde que aquel momento Basquiat se convirtió automáticamente en el artista estadounidense más cotizado de la historia, superando a Andy Warhol. Jean-Michel Basquiat (Nueva York, 1960-1988) no es un nombre tan conocido como Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol o Mark Rotko. A algunos les sonará su nombre por ser uno de los pocos artistas negros que consiguieron hacerse un hueco en el mercado del arte internacional. No obstante, pocos saben todavía que este artista de

Nueva York fue también un artista latino. De madre puertorriqueña y padre haitiano, Basquiat nació y creció en Brooklyn, donde empezó a desarrollar su talento artístico como pintor y grafitero, hasta que una sobredosis de heroína le quitó la vida, con 27 años, poniendo punto final a una prometedora carrera. Su madre, Matilda Andrades, fue quien contagió a su hijo, el segundo de cuatro hermanos, su amor por el arte y los museos. Cuando era solo un niño, le hizo miembro del Museo de Arte de Brookyln para que estimulara su talento artístico. Según Phoebe Hoban, autora de la biografía ‘Basquiat: A Quick Killing in Art’,” publicada en 1998, Basquiat fue un niño precoz, dotado de gran capacidad para el dibujo. Animado por su madre y sus maestros, estudió en St.Ann’s, una escuela privada de Brooklyn especializada en artes plásticas, pero a pesar de su talento, nunca fue un niño feliz. Sus profesores le recuerdan como niño permanentemente malhumorado, quizás marcado por la depresión de su madre después de un dramático divorcio. A los 15 años, se fue de casa y malvivió como un habitante de calle en parque de Washington Square , “metiéndose viajes de LSD y otras drogas”, explica Hoban. Se ganaba la vida vendiendo camisetas y postales hechas por el mismo por West Broadway. Más tarde, entabló amistad con grafiteros como Al Díaz. La fama que adquirieron sus grafitis en el East Village, que él y Díaz firmaba bajo el seudónimo “Samo”, le permitió poco a poco ir accediendo al mercado de las galerías de arte. Con solo 20 años, sus obras, alabadas por sus composiciones de colores chillones, mezcla de espontaneidad y control, se empezaron a exponer en las mejores galerías de Nueva York, París, Tokyo y Alemania, alcanzando precios superiores a los 25.000 dólares. En 1983, su amistad con Andy Warhol, inmortalizada en un doble retrato, le ayudó a consolidar su fama. Los dos trabajaron juntos en una serie en 1985, incluyendo la elaboración de dibujos animados y logos para empresas. Una de las obras colaborativas más conocidas es la escultura Ten Punching Bags (Last Supper),

and King Zulu (1986), un homenaje a Louis Amstrong que invoca las tradiciones de Nueva Orleans. En el cuadro se ve al músico negro junto a su banda de jazz y sus instrumentos flotando en un mar azul. El Rey Zulu, con su rostro negro y penetrante, refleja cómo Basquiat indaga en la relación entre racismo y tradición, otro de los temas favoritos de su obra. “El hecho de que Basquiat haya sido siempre identificado como un artista “negro” pone en evidencia la invisibilidad de los artistas Latinos en el mercado del arte de EEUU, consecuencia directa de la falta histórica de coleccionistas privados, escasa presencia en exposiciones y la confusión existente entre lo que significa arte ”latino” en contraposición a Latinoamericano”, escribe la crítica de arte Naiomy Guerrero en la revista ARTSY. Normalmente, el arte latino se identifica con los artistas descendientes de inmigrantes del Caribe y Latinoamérica surgidos a mediados del siglo veinte, cuando las comunidades latinas de EEUU empezaron a reclamar mayor igualdad de derechos. Entonces, ¿qué tiene Basquiat de latino? Quizás sea la sensación de lucha y sufrimiento que transmiten sus cuadros, llenos de trazas expresivas, en rojos y azules, y de figuras de ojos grandes y muy abiertos. Justamente, la obra comprada por el millonario japonés Yusaku Maezawa, en abril, Untitled 1982, representa una calavera negra enmarcada en trazos rojos, con los dientes grandes y una mirada llena de ira. Está pintada sobre un fondo azul, una especie de pared donde alguien parece haber estado haciendo cálculos matemáticos. “Podrían ser alguien tratando de calcular cuántos africanos murieron en barcos de esclavos en el siglo dieciocho, o cuántos esclavos vivían en EEUU, o cuántos ciudadanos negros han muerto en manos de la policía en los últimos años,” opina el crítico de arte Jonathan Jones en The Guardian. n

Se ha preguntado alguna vez cómo suena la cocina de un bar o de un restaurante? Si no lo ha hecho, aquí va una aproximación: suena al silbido de la carne asándose en la plancha, a la crepitación del aceite hirviente cuando es sorprendido por las papas congeladas, al rasguño de cuchillos sobre superficies metálicas, a los golpes secos de las puertas de neveras cuando se abren y cierran, a la inhalación de los potentes extractores que fuman sin descanso el humo de las parrillas, a los hornos encendidos, a los ventiladores exhaustos, a las licuadoras que trituran y mezclan... En otras palabras, las cocinas suenan a lo que suena el ruido: a todo y a nada específico. Ese ruido, sin embargo, es música para los oídos de Adán Trinidad, un chef mexicano de nacimiento y gringo por adopción que adora estar metido en ese bullicio culinario que es la cocina de su bar Sancho Pistola’s. Adán tiene 35 años de edad, pero hace 20 empezó a ser adulto. A los 15 abandonó la secundaria para hacer carrera en la escuela de la vida. El renegado de la secundaria había encontrado por fin su alma mater. En La Champagne, fue de lejos el mejor aprendiz. Dos años después, ya era line cook; su talento y su curiosidad empezaban a dibujar el camino de su vida: la cuisine. En 2003, con 21 años de edad y un futuro que desbordaba los límites de Cherry Hill, Adán se mudó a Filadelfia. Doherty lo trajo para que conformara el equipo de The Capital Grille. Allí comenzó a hacerse un nombre entre los restauranteros de la ciudad. En 2004, el “Rey Midas” de la cocina latina, José Garcés se lo llevó como line cook a su recién inaugurado El Vez. En dos meses, Adán se convirtió en su mano derecha: el sous chef, un título que lo ponía en el segundo lugar de la jerarquía de las cocinas. Desde entonces su carrera es una locomotora a toda marcha. Fue chef ejecutivo en la inauguración de The Water Works Restaurant, de ahí Steven Starks se lo llevó a Alma de Cuba,

después Garcés lo volvió a reclutar para a sacar a flote a El Vez, que sufría los rigores de la recesión a finales de la década pasada; luego Richard Sandoval, propietario de una multinacional con más de 40 restaurantes en el mundo, lo invitó a cocinar para él en Pampano, uno de sus locales en Nueva York. En 2014 abrió José Pistola’s y Sancho Pistola’s en sociedad con sus amigos de cantina Joe Gunn y Casey Parker. Su éxito como chef -y ahora como empresario- no es algo inexplicable, un milagro de Dios, sino la obra de un hombre que creyó en sí mismo. Su historia tiene mucho en común con la de la mayoría de sus paisanos: la disciplina. Las intensas horas de trabajo (alguna vez laboró de lunes a lunes, 16 horas diarias) forjaron su carácter y le permitieron cultivar un talento natural para crear sabores memorables. Hoy su cocina es un marca registrada. Próximamente abrirá Pistolas del Sur, su tercer bar en compañía de Gunn y Parker, Cuando se le pregunta si hay algo que odie de su trabajo, responde con aire filósofo: “Siempre he dicho que si no te gusta lo que haces deberías renunciar. Amo lo que hago, no hay un solo día en el que me levante de la cama lamentado el tener que ir a trabajar”. Para él, cocinar es como hacer música y la cocina es un escenario lleno de instrumentos. Su trabajo es dirigir una banda de rocanroleros especializados en tocar los mejores conciertos. La pasión es el combustible de la disciplina y, en el caso de Adán, lo ha llevado muy lejos. Hoy no hay un solo día que este hombre no disfrute “la musicalidad” de su cocina y el efecto socializador de su comida. Para él lo más gratificante es que por medio de su arte tiene la posibilidad de hacer amigos y de darle trabajo a sus paisanos. n

Por la misma puerta que entró el nuevo jefe de personal - el general retirado John Kelly - salió Anthony Scaramucci, el hasta el lunes director de Comunicaciones de la Casa Blanca que no tuvo tiempo ni de calentar el asiento. Según la secretaria de Prensa, Sarah Huckabee, Scaramucci abandonó su cargo luego de una breve conversación Kelly. “El señor Scaramucci considera que era la mejor manera de darle al jefe de personal John Kelly un nuevo y limpio comienzo, así como la habilidad de construir su propio equipo. Le deseamos todo lo mejor”. Pese a las amenazas oficiales de eliminar el programa de Acción Diferida (DACA), 35 “soñadores” Dreamers- se arriesgarán en agosto a viajar a México y aprovecharán así la oportunidad de sellar en sus pasaportes un ingreso legal al país. Los llamados “dreamers” participarán en el Proyecto California México de la Universidad de Cal State Long Beach (CSULB), que por sexta ocasión otorga el aval a estudiantes indocumentados para que viajen al exterior para explorar sus raíces. Este será el primer grupo que se arriesga a salir del país bajo el mandato de Donald Trump, que ha puesto en marcha una agresiva política migratoria que podría amenazar la permanencia de DACA. En 2015 la iniciativa universitaria le abrió las puertas a los indocumentados y se convirtió en una insignia de la lucha de los soñadores para regresar a sus raíces. Estudiantes de California, Nueva York, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, Wisconsin y Washington participarán este año en el programa, en su mayoría mujeres.
