did not flourish but the idea got traction among the men who felt having a special day dedicated to fathers would be fair. It would take a few more years until President Lyndon B. Johnson agreed to create a special day for dads to celebrate their role as shapers of the American family. The day chosen was the third Sunday in June. Initially the celebration consisted of a special mass; years later it consisted of spending a quiet day with the family. Today times have changed and many traditions have been added to this day, especially outside the United States.
