In 2017, Puerto Rico was in desperate need of federal aid following the destruction of Hurricane Maria. The island was left without clean water and power for months, and there many areas in recovery mode

According to a new report from the Washington Post, the Trump administration put up bureaucratic obstacles that successfully delayed and stalled about $20 billion in hurricane relief funds.

It then obstructed an investigation into the holdup, according to an inspector general report.

Under Biden’s direction, and the three-day visit of our Latino Secretary of Education, the island is fi nally able to receive and benefi t from federal aid, which will now be used to revamp their education system.

Project South, who organized the event, has been incessantly working with other organizing groups to close privately-owned, for-profi t detention centers — and all detention centers for that matter — wrote the following on Twitter:

“There is no amount of reform or oversight that can make an inherently racist, xenophobic system more humane.”

To honor these ancestors, the Larry Itliong Unity Park’s amphitheater will be named “The Generation of Manongs,” and will include the names of individuals from that time period.

The park will also unveil a mural paying tribute to Itliong’s daughter on Oct. 25: California’s Larry Itliong Day.

Delano has more plans -potentially a new school or community center- for making their city more inclusive, safe and welcoming for its Asian-American population.

La ciudad de Delano tiene más planes —probablemente una nueva escuela o centro comunitario — para hacer que su ciudad sea más inclusiva, segura y acogedora para su población asiático-estadounidense.
