President Maduro has announced new attempts to reconcile with the opposition and this is not a coincidence. We could see some significant changes in the region due to the impact of the war. Maduro knows that he will no longer count on Russia in economic terms, and if he has to sell oil to the U.S., he will. (…) En cuanto a Estados Unidos, el presidente Biden, al igual que la UE, está pensando en otras fuentes de energía y, sorprendentemente, en negociar con Venezuela. El presidente Maduro ha anunciado nuevos intentos de acuerdo con la oposición y nada de esto es casualidad. Podemos ver cambios significativos en la región por el impacto de la guerra. Maduro sabe que ya no contará con Rusia en términos económicos y si tiene que venderle petróleo a EE. UU., lo hará. Si esto implica concesiones, las hará, lo que podría llevar a cambios en el escenario latinoamericano”.

Es la pregunta que se hace John Gray sobre la guerra en Ucrania. Indica que lo que Putin ha logrado “es que Occidente exhiba una unidad que no se veía desde hace décadas. La consecuencia del ataque emprendido por Putin será hacer de Rusia un Estado paria (…). El viejo dicho de que Rusia es ‘el Alto Volta con armas nucleares’, que Joe Biden repitió en junio de 2021 cuando llegó a Ginebra para reunirse con Putin, infravaloraba su capacidad de sembrar el caos. (…) Rusia sigue siendo un país con armamento nuclear plenamente operativo. Pero también dispone de muchas otras armas no tan apocalípticas. Además de controlar el suministro energético de Europa, Rusia es el mayor exportador de trigo del mundo y un proveedor crucial de metales estratégicos. Eso le otorga una temible capacidad de tomar represalias por las sanciones. Si Putin interrumpiera el flujo de gas hacia Europa, el continente y el mundo entero se sumirían en una recesión y la inflación se dispararía”.

Commenter Antonio Gershenson criticizes the position of the States in the Ukraine war, as it is forgetting what it has done against the sovereignty of other countries. He says: “As if Joseph Biden were an example of political authority, the United States president has detached himself from the killings caused by wars designed by companies that have had an influence in the governments of his nation. It does not matter if those tragic events occurred during other administrations, as the chief of State, Biden can truthfully account for the interventionist policy that previous American administrations have maintained, and the tragedies they have provoked in the world. … A nuclear war is not just anything, but the United States administrations have used that disgraceful idea as a “diplomatic” negotiation. … We don’t need more nuclear threats. We need that all those agreements and treaties that prevent and get us away from a definitive catastrophe are met.” El comentarista Antonio Gershenson critica la posición de Estados en la guerra en Ucrania, olvidando lo que ha hecho contra la soberanía de otros países. Dice: “Como si Joseph Biden fuese ejemplo de autoridad política, el presidente de Estados Unidos se ha deslindado de las matanzas que han ocasionado las guerras confeccionadas por los empresarios que han influido en los gobiernos de su nación. No importa si aquellos eventos trágicos ocurrieron durante otras administraciones, como jefe de Estado, Biden sí puede dar una explicación verídica de la política injerencista que han mantenido los gobiernos estadunidense anteriores y de las tragedias que han ocasionado en el mundo. (…) No es cualquier cosa una guerra nuclear, sin embargo, los gobiernos estadunidenses han utilizado esta desgraciada idea como negociación “diplomática”. (…) No necesitamos más amenazas nucleares. Requerimos que se cumplan todos aquellos acuerdos y tratados que nos previenen y nos alejan de una hecatombe definitiva”.
