The location for the space grill will be in a lunar orbit. The fastest time to reach lunar orbit so far was in July 1969 when Apollo 11 reached lunar orbit in 36 hours. As space travel begins to increase at an exponential rate the travel time will decrease and the need for more outer space grills will increase. Allowing space travel to extend further into the universe.

PROGRAMDIAGRAM The program brief contains a space grill and a hotel. The grill offers a rest stop for space travelers with mechanical support capabilities. The hotel program can hold up to 40 people at a time. The hotel program also offers “moon tours” where you can take a scheduled tour of the moon’s surface.

The jellyfish’s body does not have a brain, heart, bones, or eyes, but it is still able to react to nerve stimuli located in their tenticles. The mystery is how they are able to react without the necessary organs to process the information ie. the brain. Also jellyfish use a type of jet propulsion to make their way through the water. The largest jellyfish can grow tobe 8’ in diameter and be as long as half a football feild.

EMBEDDEDSTRUCTURE The need of a structural system embedded within the formal idea’s of the jelly fish needed to be addressed. The technique of using an embedded structure like the coffered ceiling in the pantheon dome or a waffle slab found in many buildings that requires a long span of plate with minimal points of ground connection. My interest lays within the fact that the structure is embedded within the surface condition. Creating a visual component that is also structural.

Monocoque construction is a technique that supports structural load by using an object’s external skin as opposed to using an internal frame or truss that is then covered with a non-load-bearing skin. Currently this technique is used in the automotive industry known as a unibody construction for car chasis or in container industry for water bottles.

SKELETALSYSTEM
Taking the idea’s of a monocoque system and making it modular lead me to the human skeletal structure. While composed of many components the entire system is made up of monocoque components that act together as a structural system while still providing a flexible dynamic field of motion.

DUALSPINE
By combining 2 sets of “spines” together I am able to create a larger zone for either circulation, housing, or information strings. Adding a logical component to the spine manipulations.

A “rib” growth has been added to the original “spine” module. Further developing the modules to act as an entire system. The issue at this point is the scale of the modules. Either using them as individual components capable of housing, or using the components as a small scale structural system
