#WhoAreYouKSU: Our Outstanding Marketing Week at Kennesaw State University

For this year’s Marketing Week members were determined to make a long-standing impact not only through this exciting series of events, but also by enlightening students on the benefits of becoming both a KMA and an AMA member. Our first focus involved the promotion of Marketing Week itself. First, we structured our goal for a 25-day-long social media campaign, #WhoAreYouKSU, from October 1st through October 25th across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Next, we achieved our goal to construct two life-sized human forms labeled with the hashtag #WhoAreYouKSU and displaying them in two campus facilities from October 14th through October 25th. These forms created a buzz on campus and relayed the idea that these “people” had no identities or personal brand. The hashtag led to further event information. One of our chief goals was to host at least three speaker events open to the student body. We sought to provide students with professional insight and to give them a sneak peek into our organization. On Monday we had a highly successful evening on campus with two digital media specialists from Cox Media Group, Jennifer Ross and Zach Mullins, who discussed the specifics of their careers and the importance of digital media in today’s business world. On this day, we failed to reach our attendance goal as only 8 members appeared. Tuesday featured an exceptionally moving evening for us when motivational speaker Dr. Susan Buice came to speak about the “Power of Words”. Her presentation took us on a journey of inspirational messages from all aspects of language. Dr. Buice described a former student’s heartaches from being bullied and ended with an overwhelming wave of emotions as she referenced Antoinette Tuff’s heroism; when she saved the children at her school from a rogue

gunman. Her closing message set a call-to-action asking us, as marketers, to choose our words wisely because we are the influencers of the world. On Wednesday evening, last year’s KMA president and recent KSU alumni, Meghan Stoneburner, came to speak on her journey to success after graduation. An incredible turn of events came when a professor brought her entire class to watch. With attendance of over 45 students Meghan gave recommendations on seeking internships and employment, utilizing content curation, and on interviewing tips. This evening was a tremendous success and ultimately led to the request for more information by 17 non-members. The Kennesaw Marketing Association set up a training session to get certified in Hubspot’s Inbound Marketing on Thursday. We set a goal early in the semester to learn Inbound Methodology inside and out over a few weeks, and were now set to take the test. The event was successful with a 100% certification rate among our students. What would Marketing Week be if we did not get hands-on experience in the marketing/advertising industry? On Friday we were delighted to tour the Atlanta location of 22squared. Our goal was to gain real world knowledge of the advertising industry, and we learned that much and more from the employees of 22squared. After the tour of the agency, associates from multiple departments joined us for a rapid fire question and answer session. . Our attendance goals may have been scattered, but we were able to make a lasting impression on those who have heard of the events and most importantly those who were able to join. Marketing Week was a tremendous success for the Kennesaw Marketing Association as we were able to make many of our goals and gain a substantial amount of knowledge and insight
