New Species of Migratory birds
Our Zoo spotted 108 migrant and resident bird species, of which five are classified as new visitors to our zoo: the greater whitethroat, Eurasian spoonbill, dunlin, Bonelli’s eagle and the Eurasian nightjar This came as part of our annual study carried out to monitor biodiversity and examine the suitability of the Zoo’s environment as a habitat for wildlife and migratory birds, specifically in terms of species, numbers and the habitats
Al Hosn Festival
Our Zoo was delighted to welcome all wildlife lovers to its interactive platform that was hosted at the Al Hosn Festival, which aimed to promote the Zoo’s efforts and experiences and reach out to a new audience Our participation comes within our Zoo role in the field of environmental and wildlife conservation
“Secrets of Investing” with Noqta
Within the "Noqta” program, our Zoo hosted the young Emirati investor, Mohammed Hilal, on the stage of the SZDLC Hilal spoke about the beginning of his career in investment, his life balance between his work and studies, the fears he had to face and the dreams that came true, as he addressed some of the most important motives behind investment and the stimulus of success for any individual, in addition to talking about the role of the UAE in supporting creativity and investment
Seed Bank
The Seed Bank was established in our Zoo in early 2015 with the aim of preserving the UAE’s endangered native plants and cultivating them The horticulture section carries out a systematic collection process, the first step of which is to collect approximately 20% of the seeds found on the “mother” plant, and then placing them in an appropriate preservation material After the collection process, each type of seed is sent to the seed bank to ensure that it is kept safe and in an optimal environment The next step is the process of drying the seeds under sunlight or through the use of fans, followed by weighing the seeds, finally, preserving the seeds for the future in a controlled cool dark room
