DHL and Daily Star Host Bangladesh Business Awards Dhaka, March 28, 2014

DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, in association with Daily Star, the leading daily newspaper of the country, hosted the Bangladesh Business Awards 2013 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel on 28thMarch, 2014. Bangladesh Business Awards (BBA) recognizes and celebrates excellence in business leadership in Bangladesh. In its 14thyear, the Bangladesh Business Awards 2013 was attended by some of the most influential people, ministers, business leaders and dignitaries of Bangladesh. A pioneer among the awards ceremonies, BBA was established in Bangladesh in 2000 and within a decade has established itself as the most prestigious event in the Bangladesh business community. The BBA was established in 2000 by DHL & Daily Star with a specific objective of creating an environment of excellence and competitiveness which would drive the members of thebusiness community to achieve greater heights of productivity, efficiency, financial discipline and modern management. Addressing the audience at the awards night, Desmond Quiah, Country Manager, DHL Express Bangladesh in his speech, stated, “In the true Bangladeshi spirit of ‘resilience’, DHL Express and the Bangladeshi business community have always demonstrated strength of character, working to overcome challenges. This evening we have gathered to express our commitment to rebuild the country as a reliable place for business and economic activity. Now, as the business community looks forward to renewed business momentum, we stand ready to support our customers as we strive to make our customers successful across over 220 countries and territories we operate in.” The Awards ceremony on this Friday saw recognition of outstanding contribution to the business community in the calendar year 2013 across 4 categories, which includes a category that recognizesthe pivotal role that female leaders have played in Bangladesh economy. The awardees of this year are: 

Habib Group represented by Mr. Yasin Ali, Managing Director, was awarded with the “Enterprise of the Year 2013”.

“Outstanding Woman in Business of the Year 2013” went to Ms. Tania Wahab, Managing Partner, Karigar.

“Best Financial Institution of the Year 2012”, was awarded to Delta Brac Housing Finance Corporation Ltd represented by Quazi M SharifulAla, Managing Director and

Laila Rahman Kabir for “Lifetime Contribution Award 2013” for her outstanding contribution in business.

DHL Family Night is one of the most exciting and extravagant employee

engagement programs of DHL Express Bangladesh where employees along with their Families get an opportunity to mingle under one-roof and enjoy their family time. In 2014 we have organized DHL Family Night in a most attractive and exclusive manner. The event was full of activities that include Cultural Program, Puppet Show, Kids game and activities, stage performance by our employees, Comedy Show, Fusion Dance Show, Raffle Draw etc. Employees were highly engaged in different programs & activities and enjoyed their evening wholeheartedly. Another main attraction of the program was the prestigious Long Service Award Ceremony where employees were awarded for their long working tenure starting from Five Years to Twenty Years with Crest, certificates and a token of appreciation. Total 38 employees were awarded where 17 employees received LSA for 5 years, 10 employees received LSA for 10 year, 7 employees received LSA for 15 years and 4 employees received LSA for 20 years. Approximately 1200 guests were present at the program and it was full of fun and loving atmosphere. Kids enjoyed different activities especially organized for them where employees participated in the cultural and musical programs.

Appreciation Week – 2014 Appreciation Week is of the Deutsche Post DHL’s signature program for employee engagement. To motivate employees and ensure a fantastic working environment and also to become the Employer of Choice, Deutsche Post DHL launch Appreciation Week program in different countries and regions.

DHL Express Bangladesh organized Appreciation week on May 21 – 23, 2014. The entire period was full of fun and activities where employees participated wholeheartedly. The Program was inaugurated by providing red Carpet Welcome to all employees followed by appreciating in the Thank You Tree specially designed and installed in different locations for this purpose. Throughout different days employees were engaged in different games like Mini Golf, Penalty Shootout, Balloon Shootout, Ring Throw, Dart Throw, Car Racing etc. Employees were also participated in the Go-Green mini Marathon followed by which they joined in a friendly football match. One of the most attractive initiative of the Appreciation Week was creating a Human “As ONE”.

CS Awards DHL Focus 2014 Regional conference for AP was held in Singapore in January 2014.

Different functions were awarded during the event for their best performance in 2013. BD Customer Service Team was the proud winner of CS Excellence Award for their commendable overall KPI achievements. Besides winning the award for KPI performance, BD CS team also got appreciation certificates in different categories like Most Improvement Score in PCIS, Highest number of Customer Compliments and for their extra ordinary effort to serve customers during the fire incident at Import Bond. Mahmud Bin Alam, National CS Manager received the awards on behalf of the team. The award categories are as follows:

Adrian Whelan, Head of Global Customs & Security of DHL Express has visited Bangladesh on 04-05 June, 2014 for RA3 pre-validation. He has visited both of our Motijheel and Tejgaon service centers. He also visited Dhaka GTW in Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Operations Boot Camp 2013 During September 13 to 14 and 20 to 21, 2013 Operation Boot Camp was held at BRAC-CDM, Savar in two batches. The entire Bangladesh Operations team enthusiastically participated with a slogan of “Reaching New Height�. The main objective of this boot camp was to refresh ourselves through different team building sessions and revisiting the DHL Operations fundamentals. The DHL four pillars network operations key priorities, our achievements and way forward were also reemphasized. The presence & interactive sessions with Country Manager & SMTs during the boot camp encouraged OPS colleagues to solidify their commitment in future.

X-Ray Machine X-Ray & ETD installation at Tejgaon Service Center: DHL Express Bangladesh has installed state of the art X-Ray machine & ETD (Explosive Trace Detection) at Tejgaon service center. Hossain Ahmed, Commissioner of Customs , Custom House, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport inaugurated the facility on June 11. He praised the initiative of DHL Express and believe this would help to reduce the shipment movement of contraband items. This is to be noted that DHLE BD is the first air express company to install such security arrangement.

Town Hall with Yasmin Aladad Khan SVP of Southeast Asia & South Asia at Town Hall Yasmin Aladad Khan, Senior Vice President, Southeast Asia and South Asia, DHL Express, led a town hall meeting at the DHL Express Bangladesh (DHLE BD) Country Office on 2 June 2014.

She highlighted Asia Pacific’s business environment outlook, Focus 2014 and the way forward for the rest of the year. She also elaborated on the major investments that DHLE has made to achieve Strategy 2015 goals. She emphasized the need to seize new opportunities and improve service quality to create more value for customers. She also highlighted DHLE BD’s contributions to Strategy 2015 and thanked employees for their effort and dedication in spite of the difficult political and economic situation. It was her first visit to a South Asian country since taking charge of Southeast Asia (excluding Singapore) and South Asia, which includes Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, in April 2014. During her two-day visit to Bangladesh, she was updated by the DHLE BD team on country business. She also met Tofail Ahmed, Minister of Commerce, Bangladesh to identify areas where DHLE BD can help trade and commerce in Bangladesh and to seek operational and policy support from various regulatory agencies. She also had meetings with DHLE BD’s key customers and visited various DHLE BD facilities.

CIM DHLE

Bangladesh has successfully rolled out CIM (Certified International Manager)-1 in last September. The program aims to provide DHL Express Managers / Supervisors with additional leadership skills and offers new insights and perspectives to become ‘The successful 21st century DHL Express Manager”. Total of 24 Managers are now accredited as Certified International Managers.

The opening of the new Service Point is in line with DHL's focus to be closer to its customers.
