Instructions for use
Cleanse the hair with your favourite clarifying shampoo.
Towel dry thoroughly and evenly. If the hair is damaged or porous then spray a porosity equaliser such as Quif Prime through the hair.
Remember to wear gloves when mixing, applying and rinsing as blast colours will stain your hands and nails. If using a very strong colour then it is advisable to use a barrier cream around the complete hairline, including the ears.
NOTE: Make sure you use a very dark or old towel and be careful blast colour does not come into contact with any surfaces as staining will occur. Cover what you care about!
You can apply blast colour straight from the bottle with the specially designed nozzle, being very careful not to apply directly to the scalp. Keep the colour away from the skin at the hairline and nape. Use Quif strip:o wipes to clear up any unwanted colour from the skin and hairline.
If you prefer to apply with a brush, squeeze your blast colour into a bowl. If you are intermixing colours in a bowl remember to measure the amounts of each colour that you use and save the formula so that you can recreate your client’s colour result again next time.
To ensure an even and full-colour deposit, massage and/or comb your blast colour through the hair until it becomes frothy. Lighter shades will require more massaging and combing. If using a foil technique, it is advisable to work blast colour into each section of hair, using your tint brush, until it becomes frothy in consistency.
Hair must be pre-lightened for pastel tones and vibrant colour results to be at their best. Remember the rules of the colour wheel, if the warmth in the hair will a ect your chosen colour result then neutralise the unwanted warmth away before you apply your chosen colour, for example, you can neutralise any yellow tones away using white lightning toner (as it is pale violet) before you use ‘make me blush’ ensuring that your pink tone will be perfect.
Development
Development time is 15 - 30 minutes but remember, a longer development time will help achieve a deeper and stronger colour. The intensity of the result will vary depending on the depth/warmth and porosity of the hair you are applying it to:
Pre-lightened hair: Keep checking and visually develop for up to 15 minutes (you can leave the colour on for up to 30 minutes if you want to).
Chemically treated hair: (permed or coloured) From 15 - 30 minutes
Natural untreated hair: Up to 30 minutes.
A plastic cap or cling film wound loosely around the head may be used to contain body heat, obtain maximum colour development and keep the colour from touching anything it shouldn’t (NOTE: plastic caps will stain).
Removal after processing
Rinse the hair thoroughly (away from the face) using cool/lukewarm water until all product residue has been removed and the water runs clear. Remember to rinse di erent colours separately. Do Not Shampoo. Condition if necessary with your favourite conditioner then rinse. Towel dry hair and style. Advise your client to refrain from washing their hair for 48 hours as this will allow the colour to lock in and promote longevity. Avoid using hot water, bathing in chlorine pools/hot tubs or sea water and direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
Home care products & advice
High quality colour care shampoo and conditioner is recommended for home use to prolong the life of your client’s colour.
Advise your client to avoid high heat styling at all costs. Straighteners and coloured hair don’t have a friendly relationship, as excessive heat will cause the colour to fade away faster. Instead, advise your client to keep it as low as it can go and recommend the use of a heat protection product when styling with hot tools.
Remember to tell your client not to leave their newly-coloured hair wet or damp. The colour can bleed out, not only will this a ect the boldness and vibrancy of their hair colour, but will also mean shopping for new clothes and pillowcases!
Colour removing shampoo mixture
when using violet or blue-based tones on hair that appears yellow or orange, toner as a pasteliser/diluter to create softer
Removal is easy because blast colour pigments stain the hair's surface and do not penetrate deeply, therefore, a colour removing shampoo will help remove blast and make the hair ready for your next colour.
We recommend several washes, using a high quality clarifying shampoo, (Leave the shampoo on and use heat for 10 minutes for a deeper cleanse) to remove traces of blast colour and to prepare the client’s hair for the next colour application.
Colour removing lightener mixture
Removal of artificial pigment using a lightener must always be handled carefully. Processing must be checked constantly to avoid excess damage and uneven colour results.
Mix equal parts Quif blast white or violet lightener with 5, 10 or 20 volume developer and your favourite damage repair shampoo.
Apply the mixture to damp hair only to the area requiring colour removal avoiding any virgin hair, particularly at the scalp area. Massage very gently to lift and remove colour pigments. Timing is visual.
Check progress every five minutes for a total of 20 minutes. When removal complete rinse and shampoo twice, towel dry and re-colour using your new shade or apply your favourite conditioner and style.
The more porous or damaged the hair shaft is, the quicker the fade will be, but the longer the stain remains.
Apply plenty of colour, massage and comb through and check the application carefully.
A plastic cap may be used to contain heat, maximise the intensity of the colour and stop your client from accidentally touching her hair!
