BRANDS OF Brands Of looks to supply consumers, especially within the Latin American diaspora, with the brands and products they love from their home countries, while providing local entrepreneurs with the necessary tools to export. We offer our brands a platform to sell their products and services, but more importantly to tell their story. We are building the largest quality-based catalog of Latin American local products and brands.

BEGINNING The concept of Brands Of started with BrandsofPuertoRico.com. During the first months of 2014, Puerto Rico’s bonds degraded to junk status because of the ongoing economic crisis. Parallel to this, a great number of Puerto Ricans moved to the continental USA looking for more opportunities. Around 3,000 Puerto Ricans leave the island every month for an average of 36,000 migrants a year. Our founders saw this as a great opportunity for the local entrepreneurs to start exporting their products and brands in order to satisfy the growing market outside of Puerto Rico created by the diaspora. Since their background is based on technological entrepreneurship, it was natural to them to create an e-commerce platform where the diaspora could buy the products they miss, while supporting the brands they love.

THE COMPANY Launched on July 11th of the same year, Brands of Puerto Rico had 30 brands that formed its family. After just one year, BoPR grew to 90+ brands. Not only that, but also 70% of the sales were shipped to the continental United States, proving that the idea of marketing to the diaspora was indeed successful. This was done through strong marketing efforts online, as well as offline. We continue to grow, as we continue to learn.

BRANDS 101 To make a real change, we need to educate first. BoPR offers a bi-monthly, free of charge, TED-style lectures called Brands 101. This lecture emphasizes on a certain topic and has several speakers giving each a 15-minute presentation regarding their experience on the event’s particular subject. These events are open to the general public and are known to be great for networking and building business relations.

INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION Brands Of’s international expansion consists on recreating the concept of Puerto Rican origin in different countries by establishing franchises. This way, we spread the idea of supporting local markets. In 2015, BoPR and DC Ventures formed a partnership. DC Ventures is an early-stage focused Venture Capital and Start-up advisory firm. This partnership resulted in the foundation of Brands Of Holding Company and started its international growth. Brands Of’s main goal is to become the largest online catalog for Latin America’s local products and brands.

NESTOR G. TAVERAS Co-Founder of Brands of Puerto Rico. Nestor has always been an entrepreneur, having one of the brightest minds when we talk about managing a business. His education includes a BBA in Business Administration from Boston University and an MBA in International Marketing from the University of the Sacred Heart in Puerto Rico. A serious entrepreneur by heart, some of his skills are: innovation strategy, an ability to build strong and lasting partnerships, and a deep understanding of marketing principles with the ability to contextualize them in modern environments. He is also very passionate about: business development, online and offline start-ups, e-commerce, finance, sales, marketing, social media, online marketing, branding and identity, market research, digital media, and life.

ALAN TAVERAS Alan is Nestor’s younger brother, who also co-founded Brands of Puerto Rico. Keep in mind that this is not the only project they have founded together. In Alan, you’ll find the more creative of the two and “the face of the company” since he doesn’t miss any event that has to do with the community. Alan is also an entrepreneur by nature. His education includes a bachelor’s degree in publicity from the University of Sacred Heart in Puerto Rico, as well as an MBA in IT from the University of Palermo in Argentina. Alan is also a part-time professor, which let us know how much he likes to impart his wisdom. He is also a Global Shaper. For those who don’t know, The Global Shapers Community is a network of Hubs developed and led by young people who are exceptional in their potential, their achievements, and their drive to make a contribution to their communities. An initiative of the World Economic Forum.

GFR MEDIA PARTNERSHIP In mid-September, Brands of Puerto Rico and GFR Media (the biggest media outlet in the island) reached a collaboration agreement with the purpose of sharing the stories of the entrepreneurs that form part of our family. Every two weeks, they publish a column dedicated to the entrepreneur of their choosing. We also have a collaboration with SAL!, a GFR brand, that consists on having a gastronomic tour in local restaurants under the concept “farm to table�. These collaborations helped us give protagonism to our brands, while supporting the local economy.

GASTRONOMIC TOURISM Everybody has a story. Here in Brands Of, we enjoy giving local entrepreneurs the opportunity of telling theirs. In our “farm to table� events, we offer a place where local foodies, farmers and restaurant owners have the space to exchange ideas, experiences and stories, thus creating something special that will live in the minds and hearts of those who experience it.

DREAM INN HOTEL With the idea of having products accessible to tourists, we took it upon ourselves to develop an offline marketing strategy that consists on selling Brands products at hotels. Currently, we have a space at the Dream Inn Puerto Rico, whose owner is from Indian heritage, allowing brands to connect with people from outside the country.
