Lantana
Rebecca Heng
££££
Nice cosy little cafe, always buzzing. The chorizo, organic ham hock, roasted pepper and baked beans with chilli cornbread and poached eggs is about as far from a full English breakfast as one can get! Those who have a sweet tooth will be delighted by alternatives to the standard pancakes or muffins such as toasted banana bread with the amazing sticky date caramel and praline. Coffee here is expertly made as well. Be warned though, Lantana can get pretty busy and noisy! pg 5

Home Sweet Home
Rebecca Heng
Tucked away in the heart of the northern quarter, Home Sweet Home has been consistently busy since they opened. Though its deceptive size means they can usually squeeze you in. The atmosphere is usually laid back even when it’s packed to the rafters. Service is usually swift, though is occasionally accompanied by a scowl, but for Mex-breks, it’s a great option: think smoked salmon or chorizo with poached eggs, peppers and hollandaise & sour cream. The interior’s quirky-cool and their breakfast shake (blueberry & lucky charms whizzed with ice cream) is an excellent hangover cure. Not forgetting their Ultimate Hot Chocolate that comes with marshmallows, oreo cookies, Reese’s peanut butter cup and chocolates!

“Quirky cakes and massive breakfasts. Whenever i come here i think of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate factory and the chocolate room where everything is edible. It’s because the cakes are so over-the-top: they’re like a party on your palate” - Huttson L.

While most people associate Gorilla with late nights rather than early morning, they serve breakfast and brunch until 4 pm so it is definitely worth returning to the scene of crime if the outside world is too much for you to handle early in the day. The menu is full of comfort food options. Simple, but filling. The big breakfasts are enormous enough to cure the most horrendous of hangovers.
