Tom Dunham,63, is a vibrant and beloved member of the Gunnison community, a place he's called home since finishing high school here in the early 80's. Raised in Delta with his two brothers, father, and stepmother, Tom's childhood was full of love, laughter, and life lessons. He'll never forget the day he surprised his dad with a homemade breakfast - eggs, bacon and toast - prepared entirely on his own as a teenager. His father was amazed at his ability!

Throughout his younger years, Tom was a hard worker, taking on a variety of jobs that ranged from construction and yard work to snow shoveling and moving. He even worked janitorial shifts at Six Points. Now, Tom enjoys the simple pleasures of life in his apartment near Six Points, with his good friend Angela living right next door. Sundays will find Tom volunteering at the Catholic Church where he works as an altar server.

Tom is very independent, managing his own finances, cooking, cleaning and shopping with ease. But what really makes his life shine are the friendships he's built, especially through his involvement with Six Points. Together, they've gone on unforgettable trips, including visits to the Colorado Gators Reptile Park, the Sand Dunes National Park, the Salida Hot Springs, and Bananas Fun Park in Grand Junction.

But Tom's true passion lies in sports, where he has excelled through his participation in the Special Olympics. With consistent coaching from the staff at Six Points, Tom has always pushed himself to new heights . Recently, he competed in the softball throw and served as the anchor for his team's relay race. His hard work and dedication paid off in 2023, when he won first place at the regionals and second place at the state competition in the 1500-meter race.

Though his body has felt the toll of years of athletic success, Tom hasn't slowed down. These days, you'll find him on the pickleball courts enjoying lively games with his friends. Tom's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, friendship, and the joy of living life to its fullest.

Gunnison County, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) have temporarily closed several roads to all motor vehicles to protect Gunnison Sage-Grouse during their mating season and to prevent road damage during wet spring conditions.

These roads are closed by March 14 and will reopen on May 15, 2025. Roads may be closed earlier than March 14 if they are excessively muddy. The cooperation of the public is required to successfully implement these road closures, which help support conservation efforts for Gunnison Sage-Grouse.

New in 2025, the BLM has area closures to all human use from March 14 to May 15 in the Chance Gulch and Sapinero Mesa Areas of Critical Environmental Concern.

Mechanized use on Signal Peak is allowed east of the Signal Peak Road beginning May 1 after 10 am.
