Skull Tank (black) Ripped Jeans (black)
What’s behind the undeniable appeal of WRONG, one of the meta-
clockwise from top left:
verse’s most popular stores? Lots of attitude. Lots of fun.
Work Shirt (Nautical Star) SamKaro Pants from LeeZu Baxter
Designer Kaysha Sion describes WRONG’s style as “modern, casual, almost adolescent: punk but not really – Pop Punk – there you go!” From minis, tanks, and tees to jeans, stockings and pants, skulls and stripes provide the defining features of the look, along with the dangly suspenders, which are signature WRONG. Despite the irreverent sassiness of the WRONG image, there’s absolutely nothing careless about Kaysha’s artistry. Call her a punk perfectionist. Kaysha attends to every detail of design with painstaking care. “I need to be patient and focus on the details,” she insists. METRO Virtual Fashion | 14

“If I sit down with the intention of getting something new out fast, it’s really not going anywhere. I need to take the time to zoom in and focus on all the little details, and keep uploading again and again till its right.” The perfectionism shows in the quality of Kaysha’s designs, and explains WRONG’s ongoing popularity and success. Another reason is the flexibility and adaptability of the designs. All WRONG fashions are sold as separates to facilitate customers’ desires to create their own looks. “The girls I see walking around in the store have taken one WRONG item, like a top, and put it with someone else’s pants, belt, jewellery,” Kaysha observes. “I always think, I couldn’t build up a look that cool if I tried.” You can pick up some attitude yourself at WRONG in AlterNation (200, 215, 38).

covergirl
pay ton heron
Payton Heron is this issue’s covergirl, and though a relative newcomer in the virtual modelling world, she is definately a girl to watch! How did you first start getting into modelling in Second Life? In July 2007, I met Isabella Sampaio of Style Guru who changed my life. She helped me with my avatar transformation from California beach girl to beautiful blond avatar. She helped me find stylish clothing and get rid of my noob freebies. My intent was to become a model in SL and fulfill a lifetime RL dream. I entered the Miss SL Tropics competition in August 2007 and became a finalist…and thus my start into SL fashion modeling. Are you into fashion in First Life as well? Oh yes, I am actually an executive in retail marketing and have worked in this field for many years. However, most of my clients are in home furnishings and accessories. Do you have a favourite designer in the real world? My favourite RL fashion designer would be Giorgio Armani. I love his use of fabric and clean designs.
Several weeks ago, I volunteered to be a live model in the EFA fashion week auctions to benefit Pink Ribbon, which is a global support network for women who have been affected by breast cancer. All dollars collected were donated to fund breast cancer research and support services for people who have been affected and to educate women about being ‘breast aware.’ Through the 2 days of auctions, I personally raised L$10,000 for the chairty. Recently, I was hired by LeeZu Baxter of LeeZu Baxter Designs, to be an in-house and print model. How would you describe your own personal style? My style ranges from casual to trendy but always with a classic core. And since I have begun modeling, I am crazy for hairstyles, even more so than shoes. I am always well coordinated and styled whenever I leave my home and would never be caught without my make up, especially my custom beautymark! Do you have any advice for models just starting out?
Aside from modelling with Metro, what other virtual modelling activities are you involved in?
As I am fairly new to modeling, I will tell you what I believe is most important….work hard, watch other models, attend different designer’s shows and practice, practice, practice!!!
I recently finished attending the MODA modeling school and upon completion was invited to join the MODA Spotlight fashion model team. Each week on SLCN.TV, this team models a different SL designer and it is broadcast live to SL residents.
Payton is wearing the Glitteroro dress by Bianca Foulon, gold Spirit pumps by Tesla, Alidar gold earrings by Second Mirage, Tory triple chain necklaces from Second Mirage, Light Skingloss Minnu Models skin, Lydia hair by ETD. METRO Virtual Fashion | 19

Marvellous Mui Sometimes a Second Life model stands out not only for their beautiful avatar and unique style, but for their personality as well. I was lucky enough to work with Mui for the New Shoots shows, and she became a favourite amongst us at Metro for her upbeat, positive energy and her kindness towards others. Mui is wearing the Swan Lake Dream gown by Nicky Ree Design, the Queen Galaxy Limited Edition jewelry set by Alienbear Design, Sofia hair by ETD, lashes by Lynnix, and Classic Glitter skin by Celestial Studios. How did you first start getting into modelling in Second Life? Mui: … well I started modelling becasue I love to wear the clothes the jewelery of talented people in SL.. One day Tigherlily from Calla Hair called in her group channel request need help of her new hair in Dec last year . Few girls there included Digit Darkes from X3D she suggested we can go to her studio to take pic for Calla ad … then we also modelled X3D dress and Diversity hair … that is my first time to try modelling in Second Life Do you have a favourite Second Life designer who inspires you? who really use heart to design and she is perfectionist!! She go to grapic design class to improve her SL design skill that make me think i need to improve myself. What advice would you give to a new player in Second Life who wanted to get into the virtual fashion scene, either as a blogger or model? Mui: Well - since many new ppl in second life don’t know really all the capabilies available to them. I always recommend them to go to the basic SL knowledge class. that can help them not only in their model or blogger career but in many other areas. How would you describe your own personal virtual style? Mui: I do love shopping which everyone know that ^^ i love make friends and hang with friends also love help ppl who need help … buiilding too but sometimes lazy lol Mui’s fashion blog can be found at http://muimukerji.blogspot.com/

Winter in Second Life by Zahara Rahja, owner/designer for Savvy Avvy
I have reckoned that winter is very welcome in Second Life. Many residents I have talked to want to live winter in SL. This is another reason that confirms that SL is becoming something more than just a virtual online game. Just as we designers try to create real-looking clothing, people want to arrange their lives on SL as realistically as possible.

I find it important to add some creative bits to the clothing I make, just like prim/sculpted collars, cuffs, etc. The most important is to free your creativity! Story and photos by Anessa Stine Guest models: Steve Hansen, Takeshi Kiama, Graciana McMillan
It is my earliest Second Life fashion memory, stumbling into Fey Fuller & Jacqueline Boehm’s 1-800-Betties and realizing there was a whole genre of fashion in this game that didn’t include stripper wear and platform heels. My love affair with all things retro in SL had begun, soon it was Antonia Marat’s /artilleri/ and Neferia Abel’s Ivalde getting the benefit of my Linden dollars, and since then so many talented newcomers in the retro fashion game like Betty Doyle’s Ingenue and Moire Georgette’s Bossa Nova are proving this look is one we want to wear.

Within retro, so many sub-categories exist; Old Hollywood Glamour, 50’s Greaser Guys and Gals, the ever popular Rockabilly and now a new twist with ‘inspired’ garments… not really part of any category, but feature elements harken us back to the days of the five-and-dime and ‘making out’ in the back seat at drive-in movies. Grab yourself some pin curls and a pompadour and you’re ready to go. Veschi’s Alla Ruff and Icing’s Miko Omegamu have found amazing ways to inject a bit of that vintage goodness into their lines, and fashionistas across SL are eating it up. You could argue that nothing in SL can really be deemed vintage, similar things have been said about couture, but for fans it is certain that enough of us love it no matter what you want to call it. continued on page 92

Amazingly in a world better suited to futuristic roleplay we find ourselves inexplicably drawn to the familiar, classics… clothes that represent simpler times. And the romance with ‘Retro’ and ‘Rockabilly’ continues to flourish in Second Life, from genre specific poses and dances, to malls, night clubs and entire sims dedicated to keeping the past alive and kicking in a virtual world.
Everything old is ‘now’ again.
