Tift Park Community Market Celebrates One-year Anniversary By Jennifer King

Tift Park Community Market recently celebrated its one-year anniversary in July. The market was spawned last year in an effort to revitalize Tift Park, making it a fun, family friendly place every weekend. Craft and food vendors gather in the park every Saturday morning and prepare for a day of wholesome fun. They sell everything from hand crafted jewelry to fresh baked cakes! If you are the crafty type or have goods and wares you’d like to sell, becoming a vendor is easy! Vendors pay no fee to set up a booth and can find the appropriate applications online at www.tiftparkcommunitymarket.com. Many vendors, about 45 on average, come back week after week and have great success with their products. Folks can come out to shop and support their neighbors and community. There’s a huge agricultural aspect to the market with plenty of fresh produce weekly. The market also features non-profit groups, which help give back to the community and support wonderful causes. The market is extremely welcoming to pets, and it even has a tiny goat mascot named Nelson. With food trucks and the “Pickin’ Tent,” which features local musicians, the whole family can shop and stay for lunch and live entertainment. Pamela Barkley, who is heavily involved with all aspects of the market, informed us of some of the market’s upcoming events: “August 15 we are having Kids’ Day, and we’ll have different things planned for them. Humane Society of Terrell County is coming and Albany Tractor wants to bring some equipment for the boys to see. Old Navy is coming to help with kids’ booths, to name a few. I love how the community is so helpful! In September we are planning to have a tailgate party. Then, October 31, we will have Doggie Day again. We're trying to plan different events that will bring different groups out. We have gotten one of the turtles out of jail thanks to Carlton Fletcher’s article in the Albany Herald. That pushed us to see about getting one at the park!!”

Plan a Fishing Trip before Summer Ends: Current Fishing Conditions on the Forgotten Coast By Brent Romiti

Captain Frank and Captain Brent Romiti of Miss Judi Charters

Summer is just flying by on the Forgotten Coast. The air and water temperatures have risen to the extreme highs, and the waters I have been in have been averaging 84 to 87 degrees. This is very hot! The fish have taken notice of the heat and most are moving deeper and deeper to find relief. Inshore and bay fishing is slowing down due to the overwhelming heat. Most of the charter fishermen are having trouble getting fish in the boat this week; however, we are seeing good bait balls and feeding fish. The main factor has been the weather. Afternoon thunderstorms are an everyday occurrence now with so much heat building daily. Most of the storms are moving through quickly, and most just darken the skies for a few minutes. Some are very powerful with strong winds and driving rain. Inshore fishing also has to deal with huge numbers of shell hunters in St. Joe Bay and down the coast into the east part of our region. St. Joe Bay scallop count is down this year over last years count and has been on a downward decline for several years. This method that they use to determine the scallop count is not a scientific or calculated method. It represents the count as a whole and for huge amounts of water. I have been finding huge scallops with huge meat in deeper water (5 feet). Most people don’t want to dive down to find the scallops, however, the betting hunting right now is in deeper waters. King and Spanish Mackerel fishing is about the only thing going on other than deep water grouper fishing in offshore waters right now. Our near shore and offshore wrecks are holding good numbers of Kings and Spanish. Live bait might be the best bet this week as the bait balls are huge hanging just offshore. A good light line rod with a sabiki rig will get you in on the action. Once you have enough bait, start flat lining your live baits into the bait balls and hold on. Most of the larger fish have been caught using this method this week. Gag grouper season is open and many anglers are going way offshore to the deepest holes they have to find the gags. Live pinfish or grunts are the baits of choice for me but I also have plenty of large Boston mackerel or northern mackerel. These are a must for red grouper. Smaller live pinfish will work best for scamp grouper. The weather is steaming hot but its summertime, so get out on the water! We are booking fall red snapper trips right now and still booking for scallop trips in St. Joe bay. Give us a call for a good time on the water!

There’s so much to discover, taste and enjoy friend and the SWGA Beat provides excellent informative content to include the five spoon experience writings and ratings--stay connected to The Beat and bon appétit! Cordelia’s, Cordele GA 2459 U.S. Hwy 280 West 31015 www.lakeblackshearresort.com/dini ng/cordelias/ 229-276-1004 Endeavoring to unwind with a round of golf, relax in a villa or admire the beauty of Lake Blackshear from your boat or restaurant window, Cordelia’s sets the ambiance your dining experience. A beautiful sunset dinner awaits with lake views, optional fresh air seating, and the service team and chef compliment the menu and plating nicely. For appetizers, the sautéed crab cakes are delicate and delightful; the fried calamari paired with sweet Thai chili sauce is a pleasant opener as well. The menu

features several select headline entrees to satisfy—fresh fish, salad, pork loin, steak, beef, chicken and pasta. The seared jumbo scallops bedded in spinach and married in a lovely white butter sauce reduction, lemon Beurre blanc, is a delectable course. To continue in the vein of seafood, the pan-fried grouper fancied with Chipotle tartar sauce and okra and tomatoes is an agreeable and hearty message to the flavor endings. The wine pairing and subsequent desserts are gratifying as the warm caramel apple cake harmonizes nicely with the Haagen Dazs ice cream available on the menu along with several other dessert selections! A beautiful walk along the property stimulates great conversation and may convince you to check-in. It also serves as an excellent couple’s getaway, date or celebration. This establishment’s pricing is comparable to the quality of subsistence and provided on the link above to the menu. The five spoon experience is proud to present Cordelia’s with the highest rating! The prime service and splendid flavors could not been have coupled more favorably. So friend, travel highway 300 to 280 and indulge your family, friends or significant one with a savory meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner at Lake Blackshear’s own, Cordelia’s. Cordelia’s rating -

Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

ARIES – Mar 21/Apr 20 It almost seems as if something is working against you this week, Aries. It could just be your overactive imagination. Channel your energy into a creative project.

LIBRA – Sept 23/Oct 23 Libra, a little daydreaming can be good for the soul. Give daydreams their due time, but remember to refocus on real life as well. You’re up to a challenge you face this week.

TAURUS – Apr 21/May 21 You may get swept away in some lifelike dreams this week, Taurus. It may be difficult to discern when you’re awake or asleep. Don’t get carried away.

SCORPIO – Oct 24/Nov 22 Scorpio, your schedule is about to clear up so now is a great time to take some time off. You deserve a break after buckling down for so long. Relax and enjoy yourself.

GEMINI – May 22/Jun 21 Gemini, a professional predicament may have you feeling as if you have been run ragged. Regroup, even if it means taking a few days off. This time away is just the remedy you need. CANCER – Jun 22/Jul 22 It’s nearly impossible to stick to your schedule this week, Cancer. Too many things will pop up, and you’ll be spending your time juggling multiple responsibilities. LEO – Jul 23/Aug 23 Leo, your imagination may push you in the wrong direction this week. Daydreaming instead of getting things done is risky. Focus on the tasks at hand. VIRGO – Aug 24/Sept 22 Virgo, your coworkers will come through in a big way this week. Make the most of this opportunitity to work together as a team, and it will pay dividends going forward.

SAGITTARIUS – Nov 23/Dec 21 You know what needs to be done, Sagittarius. You may not have enough manpower to get everything accomplished, so put out a few feelers to see who is up to helping. CAPRICORN – Dec 22/Jan 20 Capricorn, continue with your consistent approach to handling your many responsibilities. You’re juggling a lot these days, and you’re benefitting from your work ethic. AQUARIUS – Jan 21/Feb 18 Aquarius, adhere to your original plan this week, avoiding distraction until the tasks at hand are a distant memory. Your plan is reliable and sure to work. PISCES – Feb 19/Mar 20 It’s nearly impossible to hide your emotions right now, Pisces. So why not share them and get some support from friends and family?
