Continued from page 2 Nature's Bounty

Looking for a more simplistic slumber? Find harmony with the earth through Nature's Bounty palette, which celebrates the purity of Mother Nature and a sustainable, responsible future. This trend brings with it rich, honest colors representative of whole foods, plants and soil from the farm-to-table movement. Bring Pratt & Lambert's 2014 Color of the Year, Sunspot, into your restful room for a natural touch that will liven the space. Complete the look by showcasing the raw and unique look of unfinished wood. Accessorize with handmade, knitted blankets to give an organic, honest feeling. Grace

If you're looking for a soothing and feminine place to rest your weary eyes, the Grace palette can calm your nerves and provide a soft backdrop to a rough day. This color offering is inspired by the peacefulness, tranquility and subtle delicateness of the world that surrounds us. Muted colors and ethereal, earth tones, like Blue Star and Dover White, work together to create nostalgic beauty and a relaxing retreat. Dress the room with light, airy fabrics and romantic, antique accessories for a minimalistic boudoir that will leave you feeling rested. By narrowing in on a few key trends, you'll sift through the color clutter to create a special sanctuary that reflects your individuality and personality. There's nothing to fear - simply invite new colors to the space and wake up a tired bedroom that echoes your spirit and soul.

Extraordinary home in Worth Co! This 6 BR, 5 BA, home is immaculate. A true must see!

Add value to your home with smart spring home improvements (BPT) - Snow, blizzards, Arctic winds and damaging ice storms have wreaked havoc across the country this winter. While it may feel as though spring will never come, building experts suggest that now is the time for homeowners to consider spring home improvements that add value and comfort to the home. The push toward energy conservation and sustainable materials has introduced homeowners to a greater range of affordable options that can add true value to a home. Green options such as roof-mounted solar hot water systems, gray-water recycling systems and high-efficiency window systems are just some of the options available to homeowners that not only help contribute to a greener environment but also help save money each month. Some of the most valuable "green home" improvements are able to facilitate reduced utility bills, as well as provide year round comfort. Before beginning a home renovation project, homeowners should assess their wants against the needs of their home. Building professionals will say that a home's envelope, or the exterior-facing surfaces of the building, is typically regarded as the weakest link since it is constantly exposed to the elements. Reinforcing a home's envelope can have a strong positive impact on how efficient and comfortable a home can be. One area of the building envelope that can be boosted is the insulation. While traditional insulation materials provide thermal comfort, they fall behind

sealing against air leaks, and therefore do not create a greener home. Modern insulation options such as spray foam insulation can help homeowners reduce energy consumption by adequately air sealing the home to stop any air leaks. Air leakage can limit the effectiveness of heating and cooling systems. Floors, walls and ceilings can account for up to 31 percent of air leakage in a home, according to InsulationSmart.com. Spray foam insulation, which can help combat air leakage, is growing in popularity amongst homeowners since it is an energy-efficient material that delivers year-round benefits. Spray foam insulation, like that available from Icynene, works well in all types of homes across the country, regardless of climate. Spray foam insulation performs for the life of the property, ensuring that homeowners can enjoy comfortable indoor temperatures all year round without overrunning their heating and cooling equipment. Insulation experts from Icynene note that quality spray foam insulation can noticeably reduce heating and cooling costs, in some cases by up to 50 percent. Additionally, spray foam insulation helps minimize random airborne moisture and pollutants from entering the home, ideal for allergy sufferers making an ideal home improvement investment that adds true value to a home. More information on the effectiveness of spray foam insulation is available online at www.icynene.com.

Prepping tips for spring outdoor projects (BPT) - Soon, winter will be winding down and homeowners will start planning - and prepping for - a variety of outdoor projects for spring. From cleaning, repairing or replacing decks,

to creating raised beds for veggies and flowers, now is the time to start gearing up for those spring projects. Cleaning up

Start with spring cleaning existing structures. Take a weekend to clean decks, gazebos and pergolas of dirt, debris, mold and mildew. For structures made of naturally durable Western Red Cedar, a broom, garden sprayer and hose, plus a little bleach are all you need. Sweep winter debris such as twigs and leaves from decks, taking care to clean between planks on horizontal surfaces. This facilitates airflow and drainage, and can help prevent a buildup of moisture when spring showers arrive. Next, use a garden

Carefully inspect outdoor structures for wear and tear. While Western Red Cedar contains natural preservatives that make the wood durable, all outdoor structures require annual care, including those made of pressuretreated lumber or composites. Check planks, beams and boards for cracking, warping or rough spots and repair accordingly. Replace damaged wood, and be sure to examine hardware to ensure it's working properly and free of rust. New projects If you've always dreamed about lounging on a lovely deck on a summer afternoon, or savoring a spring morning beneath the shade of a decorative pergola, now's the time to start planning the project. A great deck is the showpiece of an

outdoor environment. The material you choose will influence the longevity, beauty and enjoyment of your structure, so carefully consider your options before deciding. "Many homeowners choose Western Red Cedar for its beauty and natural durability," says Paul Mackie, western area manager, Western Red Cedar Lumber Association, or "Mr. Cedar" as he is known in the industry. "It has a deep, rich luster that other woods and man-made materials just can't match. Plus, it's a greener choice because it's renewable and recyclable unlike composites - and doesn't require chemical treatment as non-durable wood species do. It's naturally rot and insect resistant, and you can stain it or leave it natural, depending on your preference." The green qualities and durability of Western Red Cedar make it a great choice for virtually any outdoor structure - including those popular wooden playsets that begin appearing like wildflowers in backyards across the country every spring. Whatever project you're dreaming of this spring - from building a new deck, pergola, or planting beds to refurbishing an existing outdoor structure or palyset - careful planning, cleaning, maintenance and the right materials can ensure your project adds value and beauty to your home environment.

Front of Home

his week’s featured home is located on Winifred Road in Lee County. This spacious brick home features five bedrooms and three full bathrooms, so this a great place for a large family! A huge bonus room upstairs adds even more living and playing space! The front entrance opens to reveal a traditional foyer with hardwood flooring, which continues into the surrounding living spaces. To the right of the foyer is the dining room. This space features wide crown molding and base boards, judges panels on the lower wall, and a substantial aged bronze chandelier at the center of the room. Natural light gleams off the hardwood floors and lights the space nicely. To the left of the foyer is a sitting room or office. French

doors allow the space to be closed off from the rest of the house for added privacy. This room mirrors the wide base boards and crown molding of the dining room as does the family room. The family room is straight ahead of the foyer and is an open and airy living space. A fireplace to the left of the room provides a lovely focal point and a cozy

source of heat during the winter months. Directly to the right of the family room is the kitchen and breakfast nook area, which share one continuous style of tile. The nook is situated in front of two sunny windows that overlook the grassy backyard. The kitchen features custom cabinetry with a built-in pantry, sleek stainless steel appliances, and gorgeous black granite counters. A breakfast bar between the spaces, which is lit by two glass pendant lights, provides additional dining area. Just off the breakfast nook, you will find a big tiled laundry room, a double garage, and the master suite. The master suite has private access to the home’s raised wooden deck, and it features a private, spa-quality bathroom. The master bath features two

separate single vanities (his and hers), an over-sized tiled shower stall, and a deep corner jetted tub situated under two glass brick windows. At the rear of the bathroom, you will find a spacious walk-in closet. On the opposite end of the home are two more bedrooms and a full bathroom. One bedroom features a walk-in closet, and the other has a roomy double closet. The bathroom is centrally located between these bedrooms and features a double vanity and separate water closet. A staircase adjacent to the dining room leads

up to a huge bonus room, two additional bedrooms, and another full bathroom. There are plenty of windows throughout these spaces to make the upstairs just as bright as the main level. Outside the home is a covered front porch, a partially covered back deck, and a large backyard that backs up to a pecan orchard. The home’s deck and backyard would be great for hosting outdoor gatherings and for having plenty of family fun! Four tips for achieving a healthy lawn on a budget

(BPT) - As spring rolls around, it's time to start thinking about yard maintenance. If your budget is tight, you might be tempted to let the lawn care slide, but maintaining a great lawn doesn't need to be expensive - and the reward for just a small investment is a beautiful, environmentally friendly setting for outdoor activities of many kinds. If you're looking to ensure a healthy natural lawn on a budget, consider these four easy tips:

1. Water as needed. On average, a lawn needs about one inch of water per week, from rainfall or irrigation. This will soak the soil to a depth of four to six inches, putting water deep into your lawn's root system. Letting the lawn dry out completely between waterings will encourage the grass to grow stronger, deeper roots as it searches for water deeper in the soil. For best results, water in the early morning when there is less wind and heat. Put a rain gauge on your porch to measure rainfall; if you receive one inch of rain in a week, skip the watering and save your irrigation money that week.

2. Fertilize naturally. Don't break your back trying to bag lawn clippings. If you mow frequently (about once a week during the growing season) and don't

remove too much height, you can leave the grass clippings on the lawn. The clippings will serve as a natural fertilizer. They contain the same nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium as commercial fertilizer - and they're free. 3. Use common household items. Take advantage of items already at your fingertips to keep your lawn in tip-top shape. For example: * Ready the ruler. Mowing your grass to the right height will help you create a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant lawn. Wait until your grass is three inches tall before mowing, and then cut it to two inches in height. By only trimming onethird of the blade length, you will avoid stressing the grass while leaving enough leaf to protect the roots from the sun. * Let a screwdriver be your guide. To see if your lawn needs to be watered, test for moisture by pushing a screwdriver into the ground. If it's difficult to push the screwdriver in, the soil is dry and your grass needs a drink. If the blade goes in easily, you don't need to water yet. * Use mason jars, vinegar and baking soda. Good soil is critical to a healthy lawn, and most turfgrasses prefer soil with a neutral pH (neither acidic nor alkaline). For a DIY pH test, pull out a

pair of pint mason jars. Fill each jar about half way full with soil samples taken from several different locations around your yard. Be sure to remove rocks and other debris from your samples. Add a half-cup of vinegar to the first jar. If the mixture fizzes, your soil is highly alkaline and you don't need to test the other jar. If you get no reaction, continue the test by adding a half-cup of water to the soil in the second jar. Mix well and then add a half-cup of baking soda to the slurry. If this mixture fizzes, the soil is very acidic. Overly acidic soil can be amended with lime, while alkaline soil can be amended with sulfur. * Dish soap for the grubs. As your lawn starts its spring growth, watch for brown patches that never turn green. Dead patches could be caused by grubs feeding on the roots in the fall. To determine whether grubs are indeed the problem, dig up square-foot sections of sod to a depth of about two inches in several areas in your yard. Next, examine the soil beneath your grass for short, fat, whitish C-shaped worms. If you find 10 or more grubs per square foot you should treat your lawn. To treat 1,000 square feet of grass, dilute two

tablespoons of liquid dish soap in a gallon of water and spray it on the lawn, preferably immediately after a rainfall. This will cause the grubs to come to the surface, where you can collect them if the birds don't do the job for you. Repeat the treatment weekly until the grubs stop surfacing. 4. Maintain your mower. Take 30 minutes to service your lawn mower at the beginning of the season. Changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the spark plug and changing the filters once a year will help you avoid repair bills down the road. Also sharpen the mower blade if needed. A dull blade will tear the grass rather than cutting it, which will stress the lawn and leave it vulnerable to disease.

Make TV safety part of your childproofing plan: Don't overlook TV tip-over risks (BPT) - Have a new flat panel TV? Where will you put your older cathode ray tube (CRT) TV? For many families, when a new TV comes into the home, the old bulky TV often moves to a child's room, basement or other location where it could pose a serious safety hazard. Every 45 minutes in the United States, a child is rushed to the emergency room for a TV tip-over injury, and every three weeks a child dies from a television tipping over, according to a 2012 Safe Kids Worldwide report. If an unsecure TV tips over, it can seriously injure or even kill a small child, and kids younger than 5 are especially at risk.

"We're asking families to add one important, and perhaps overlooked, task to their childproofing efforts," says Kate Carr, president and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide. "Take a look around

your home. Can the flat panel TV tip over? Have you moved the old CRT to a bedroom dresser where it rarely gets watched? If you aren't using it regularly, get it out of your home. The best solution is to recycle it." Safe Kids Worldwide and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) are teaming up to make homes safer by encouraging families to recycle older CRT TVs. Safe Kids and CEA advise parents and caregivers to do quick checks of their homes and make sure all their TVs are safely secured and properly placed. Children can easily pull a flat panel TV off an entertainment center or table. Larger and heavier CRT TVs placed on

dressers or high furniture can tip over and cause serious injuries, even death, if children climb onto the furniture. Safe Kids encourages families to include TV safety as part of their childproofing plans by placing CRT TVs on low, stable pieces of furniture. If families no longer use their CRT TV, consider recycling it. For families with flat panel televisions, Safe Kids recommends mounting TVs to the wall to reduce the risk of TV tip-overs. Safe Kids and CEA recommend these top tips to help keep kids safe and improve the environment: * Secure your TV. If you have an older CRT TV, make sure you place it on a low, stable piece of furniture that is appropriate for the TV's size and weight. * Recycle your TV. To find a location to safely and easily recycle unwanted TVs, go to www.GreenerGadgets.org. * If you're replacing your CRT TV with a new TV, be sure it's properly secured.
