Cole was active in numerous medical and scientific organizations publishing in books and other scientific literature. he was active in the laboratory performing diagnostic and research work on infectious diseases affecting both animals and humans. While in Tifton, he has been active in civic (Kiwanis), church (Methodist), and other community affairs. He is a member of Gridiron Secret Society, UGA. He enjoys hunting and horseback riding. He serves on the Board of SunTrust Bank, South GA. and is a member of the Tiftarea Board of Realtors and Albany Board of Realtors. He has a farm/agricultural background. His great grandparents settled in the LesterGumpond communities in the 1850’’s. The farms they established then remain in the family today. They are named Pretty Pond Plantation, Inc (AKA Old Home Place and Lena B. Jackson Farms. Inc . These farms (Timber and Pecans) are still in existence and Cole has actively assisted in managing the property since the 1970’s. In addition, he served as Grand Marshall of the 2013 Baconton Pecan festival.
