Students will learn to sew holiday gifts for friends and family (No experience needed, intermediate students welcome) Project options include aprons, fleece hats, napkin sets, zipper pouches, ties, and more Classes have a small student to instructor ratio where students will learn to safely operate a professional sewing machine and iron, read a sewing pattern, and illustrate their designs All materials are provided including high quality fabrics, threads, and personalized embroidery

Intermediate/Advanced Fashion Sewing – Make Your Halloween Costume!

AGES 9-16

Design and sew your own Halloween Costume (prior sewing class with Ms Julia required) All materials are provided including high quality fabrics, threads, and personalized embroidery Julia will source personalized costume-specific fabrics and notions Please come to class with a few costume ideas ready to go Non-specific costumes are recommended over well-known characters; this way students can enjoy creative freedom in their design! Non-people costume ideas are also welcome!

Want to master the secrets of the universe? Create a volcanic eruption to rival Pompeii? Pass secret messages to your friends in invisible ink? Learn how to do these and much, much, more!

Junior Alchemists is designed to not only pique an interest in scientific inquiry, but to introduce students to a deeper understanding of its development and application We allow them to see the basic principles of science in the world around them The course is focused on a number of experiments; they are tons of fun, visually appealing, and can safely be reproduced at home for friends and family

Hollywood Filmmaking

AGES 6-12

From the writer’s room to the silver screen, we’ll guide you as you turn your idea into an amazing script and then we’ll help bring it to life! All students are divided into production teams They collaboratively draft a script as we help them with their script formatting, character design, dialogue and more! Then students will act out their own scripts, starring in the parts they themselves wrote They’ll also take turns behind the camera, shooting with iPads We give guidance and experienced advice on special effects and green screen editing, shot composition and panning, lighting and sound effects

Olympic Chess

AGES 6-12

Learn chess with Athena! We’ve designed a highenergy, stimulating approach to chess that is great for all ages Classes are typically divided into different skill levels Students will spend much of their time playing each other and challenging the instructor At the beginning of each class, we have a brief question and answer session on a certain topic, challenging students with exercises and puzzles

Designed for both enthusiastic and reluctant writers, students will develop and deepen their mastery of the writing process in small, collaborative groups as they write stories, plays, and poetry Students will publish a magazine of their polished work to take home Note: students who have attended previously are encouraged to attend as each session is different Taught by veteran Albany Middle School English teacher, Abby Skrivan

Kids’ Carpentry

Kids' Carpentry teaches children the safe use of hand tools in a fun environment Kids build their own wooden projects from scratch, gaining experience in physical engineering, applied math, problem solving, and patience The lessons, projects, and tools evolve with each student’s individual pace We build from a variety of project examples such as boats, trucks, bird feeders, doll furniture, spinning tops, airplanes, shelves, boxes, games and much more
