DEVELOPMENT @ THE ALBANY - MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD The Albany is changing.
New developments are on their way. If you are a regular visitor, you’ll know that we have been using our new spaces – foyer, bar, kiosk and of course our Studio – for over a year. Now it’s time to develop the rest of the space we acquired when we signed the long-term lease on the theatre (for 50 years in 2017). With the dedicated help of many people, the Albany Theatre Trust has created a professional theatre and a community venue from nothing. But there is now more to do. Following a comprehensive public consultation, we commissioned Charcoalblue, the world’s leading multi-national theatre, acoustic and digital consultancy, to draw up development plans to produce flexible spaces with a focus on dance. We have now asked them to take that work to the next stage, and we will have things to share in the early autumn – not long after you read this in fact. Developing with a focus on dance means the Albany can help fulfil the goals set out in the city’s Cultural Strategy 2017-2027

by providing the required “new facilities for dance”, but it doesn’t mean we will stop doing all we do now. With the long-term support of Coventry City Council, we are talking about doing even more. With every turn of the page of our latest brochure, whatever your interest or passion, there is something to surprise and delight. If you were to compare our offer this time with that of the autumn of our first full year, just five years ago, the development of the range and quality of events is spectacular. We are particularly excited by the support we give for new work and premieres – Come Dance with Me; BTUK’s The Wizard of Oz, and of course The Snow Queen and Giovanni Pernice – and our developing programme of studio SOUNDS, alongside main house music highlights such the visit of the internationally renowned Brighouse and Rastrick Band. There really is something for everyone. David Meredith Chair, Albany Theatre Trust
