DEVELOPMENT @ THE ALBANY - OUR YEAR AHEAD... If you have visited us since the summer you’ll know we are now well established with our new foyer, box office, bar and Studio Theatre facilities. The news is we have the same amount of space still to develop, and we have plans for the rear of the main theatre and the outdoor courtyard area. Following consultation, ATT’s development focus is on dance: it is a high priority in Coventry’s 10-year Arts Strategy and there is a lack of high quality dance facilities close to the city centre. We are working with Coventry College to base a new degree course in dance at The Albany. Since opening in 2013, the Albany Theatre has welcomed over 60 local dance and theatre schools, and most of Coventry’s schools. Every year over 4,000 young people enjoy performing on the Albany Stage. The Albany is for everyone, but of course young people are our future. Our focus on dance is not just about participation. We aim to bring the
best quality and range of professional dance performance. Look through this guide and you will see we already are with Transitions, Giovanni Pernice, Ballet Theatre UK, Mercurial Dance and Bombay Express. Whilst the focus on dance will give the Albany a clear identity within the mix of arts provision in the City we will continue to develop the range of events we offer – turn these pages to see the growing diversity and quality of what we offer across the genres. The Trust has commissioned the renowned arts development consultancy Charcoalblue to help with planning – watch out for news. The Albany is self-sustaining, dependent on its patrons and its small team of paid staff supported by volunteers. If you would like to get involved, please contact volunteer@albanytheatre.co.uk.
