TURRIS SALUS HOMO - URBE Concept Looking forward to 2050, The ideology of designing our built environments will change rapidly by climate change and technological innovations. New design ideas related to the health of humans, society, and cities deserve more experiments. Healthiness, “Salus”, or well-being, is widely discussing at the broader urban planning level. The consciousness of how an individual’s health can enhance via the city’s equity is heatedly debated. However, such concepts are still not holistically reviewed and fully transferred as an architectural discipline. Therefore, it is time for architecture, the skyscraper, in particular, to further experiment on it. Our project aims to refine citizen’s health and environment. We focus on the two essential scales of health, the human and the city, in a vertical dimension. Against the poor air quality in the cities and the homogeneity of the modern climate; with a futuristic vision of hospitals and emergency vehicles, the “Tower of Health” wants to be a hospital of the future. It is a hospital for “Homo” (human), a hospital for “Urbe” (city) and a place of retreat for people away from the pollution and temperatures of the city itself. The tower will improve such conditions and offer a clean and safe place where citizens can spend their time and far from the loud vehicle traffic noise. Our experiment redefines a health-related spatial organization. We claim that the health of man and the city can arise spontaneously from architecture as a response to the individual and collective problems of the contemporary city. To materialise this vision, the building has been divided into different sectors, an area dedicated to medical research and development, a hospital, an oasis, and a device for natural water collection and purification.

Water treatment
Air pollution in cities is problematic for inhabitants because it can result in hesitation to spend time outdoors.
The polluted air would be filtered with the natural system, the advanced technology and the architecture itself.
The tower will itself be a system for collecting, purifying (naturally and artificially) and redistributing water within it and to the city.

Through the evolution of traffic systems and technologies, ambulances and traditional human operations on patients will be replaced by drones and artificial intelligence, which will facilitate movements within the city and automate interventions. With the developments of technology, in the near future, the sky will be the main surface of daily traffic, especially for first aid, starting from the most advanced cities. This single passenger drone concept can eradicate the problem in clogged urban environments, it can be there in the fast location to help the victim. The interior spaces will be surrounded by greenery to mitigate direct exposure to sunlight, and will minimise solar heat gain and act as a natural cooling system.

Oasis
Air quality
The Oasis is a proposal for the design of a new public space. It is based on the disappearance of the physical boundaries between nature and urban city. The ambition of this section of the project is to provide the inhabitants and visitors with a clean ambient by proposing to create outdoor spaces where the excesses of pollution, noise and humidity / dryness are reduced. The public space becomes the place where air quality is defined. Its temperature is controlled in relation to climate and vegetation, creating a public depollution process. The interior space is created entirely. A volume that we generate and control light, humidity, temperature, sound, and chemical composition of the air.
Context The project is located in Dubai, a city where has a hot desert climate. Its high temperature, especially in the summer( around 30 °C on average), makes the outdoor space unfriendly; and its severe fog and haze severely influence the quality of outdoor space. What’s worse, the frequent air pollution (the density of PM2.5) in middle to high danger, arise the serious concern of walking outdoor. Certainly, Dubai is facing a big climate and weather challenges that directly influence city living quality. The question of how to build a contextual public space and a friendly communal space for the citizen is roused out. This architecture finds here, in its own language and in the energy needs linked to sustainable development, the means to create interpretable, extraordinary spaces, freely open to future behaviour and functions.

Natural purification devices are trees and specific qualities of vegetation to filter rainwater, store it and redistribute it within the tower and to the city. The natural air depolluting devices are composed by trees with capability to absorb oxides of nitrogen and other aerosols, to make effective sound barriers.

Vegetation Vegetation organizes the form, shape and materials of the public space. The interior spaces will be surrounded by greenery to mitigate direct exposure to sunlight, and will minimise solar heat gain and act as a natural cooling system.

Façade In order to keep the façade as transparent as possible, a cable net façade was adopted which requires very few construction components. Its principle is analogous to a tennis racket in which steel cables are used as strings between which glass is mounted.

Core Air filtration system
The core includes, toilets, elevators, and vertical connections of ventilation and water distribution systems.
The artificial purification device is located underground and manages the temperature, air quality and humidity of each section of the tower. Here the polluted air would be filtered with the use of advanced technologies.

Our project reconstructs a land within its interior space, a natural design, but contained within the interior. An intermediate spaces as a new landscape, neither entirely internal not entirely external, more natural yet totally artificial, opening up to the perfectly isolated interior spaces.
