Christian Friends, Giving all Praises to God, It is hard to believe that it has been 20 years since the inception of the 1992 program. We welcome you to the 2012 Christian Acappella Music Awards, presented by NACAMA, and hosted by the Churches of Christ. CAMA, had its beginnings in South Florida as a tribute to the groups, artist’s, song writers and song leaders who proclaim our Lord and Savior in Song. As we celebrate 20 years of programming, you will find both, many of whom could be termed seasoned Artists’, who have been a major part of CAMA for a number of years, and a considerable number of first time participants. While we have reduced the number of workshops this year, we are truly pleased by the quality of our presenters and facilitators. When we look at the Musical backgrounds of the staff including, Jesse Murrah, Keith Lancaster, Willie Ray Norwood, Dr. Joi Carr and others, we are really in for a treat. Many of you ask often about the nominations process as it relates to how recipients are chosen. Let me take a moment to explain. In the beginning, when we had very few groups traveling throughout the country, we started our recognition by acknowledging everyone who participated in the program. Over the years, we have tried a number of processes including voting and ended with sort of a self- nomination system supported by a team decision making. This was determined after we realized that the voting didn’t seem fair as it became more of a regional popularity contest than any type of artist recognition. Because we do not have information on every artist who perhaps should be recognized and with the inception of the internet, you tube and other technological advances, it is easier to have artist send information to us, than for us to seek you out by word of mouth. This year, it is possible that you will not see many of the usual names that we normally consider to be the greatest artist in the Lords Church. The reason being that many of the groups have been acknowledged previously, and have not created any new projects during this particular two year period. Other reasons include, simply making room
for new artist to get a chance to be recognized and for you to become familiar with these new talented Christians. We are thankful to God and to each of you for making the sacrifice to attend this years’ program. We understand that it has been a very difficult period for many during this economic downturn. Please remember that CAMA began with an intent which was broken into three major components; To give honor to whom honor is due, according to the word of God, by way of providing recognition to those who are deserving, for their contributions to the furtherance of Acappella in the Lords Body. Secondly, to provide a forum for Artists’ and members to come together and learn, encourage and present their ideas and creativity, which helps each other to help our congregations and fellowships grow stronger. And finally, it is our prayer, by our coming together, that discussions will occur which will ignite others to question and learn more about our faith by way of understanding our use of Acappella Music. As we celebrate 20 years and 11 productions of the Christian Acappella Music Awards, we hope that you would join in with us in spreading the word all over the country, so that, If our Gods says so, we will be able to truly grow greatly during the next 20 years. Again, I am thrilled by this years’ festivities as I prayerfully transition my role into one of support to Aldanzo L. Pratt II, who will be assuming more of a leadership role in the future. I am aware that there are those who are concerned with some artist paths and the fact that some have forgotten that we sing to Glorify God and to give him the praise. While this can become a major issue, it is similar to those of us who are Congregational ministers, who also are preaching for many of the wrong reasons. This is not anything that the Lord did not expect would occur as people will tend to be who they are in any given circumstance. We thank all of those who have worked hard during our existence and may God bless you mightily in your music ministries.
