2018 You Conference Program

Page 1

WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! The Staff and Planning Committees of the Florida State Youth for Christ Conference (FSY4CC), join me in welcoming each one of you to this year’s Conference. We are indebted to the Sweetwater Church of Christ who has partnered with us in hosting the conference here in Jacksonville at the Doubletree Riverfront. As we explore the theme of “Let’s Take a Selfie”, we have secured engaging, and dynamic speakers to challenge our youth and the young at heart to do their part in the plan God has for them. Our Speakers have been charged with the great responsibilities of addressing many of the challenging issues facing our youth, encouraging them to keep their focus, and persevering in the building up of the Lord’s Kingdom. It is our prayer that you have come to enjoy several days of fellowship and fun in a wholesome, Christian learning environment. We are determined to offer that and more. We have some innovative events planned – Breakout Sessions; Nightly Socials; a Town Hall Meeting; and a recreational outing to Adventure Landing. We give God the praise and glory for blessing us with your presence; and it is our hope that when the 2018 Conference has ended you will be energized and equipped to have a greater spiritual impact in your local congregation and in the world. May God continue to bless you all, and we thank you for your continued support! Agape, Corey L. Glover Director Florida State Youth for Christ Conference (FSY4CC)

THE MISSION, AIMS, GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE FLORIDA STATEWIDE YOUTH FOR CHRIST CONFERENCE The Mission of the Florida Statewide Youth for Christ Conference is to shape the whole man (person) in the likeness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ ( Lk. 2:52).The Youth conference serves as a ministry which provides and teaches biblical alternatives to sin, drugs, alcoholism, and the promiscuous lifestyles of today’s society. In a time when our youth are seeking to find themselves and to find solutions to life’s problems, the teachings of Christ are needed more than ever. The Purpose of the Florida Statewide Youth for Christ Conference is to provide a forum for Christians of all ages through the state and country to come together and receive Biblical instruction and training that will enhance their lives through spiritual edification. The Church is a part of God’s plan of redemption. God planned and authorized the worship and the work of the church. Inclusively, there are three phases of God’s plan: 1) Church self- edification, (Eph. 4:16;1 Cor 14: 12). 2) The benevolent work of the church, and 3) The evangelizing of the world for Christ (MK. 16: 15-16) The Aim of the Florida Statewide Youth for Christ Conference is to achieve unity, “That we all may be one.” According to I Pet. 4:11 and Cor. 1:10, God requires us to speak the same thing. Therefore, it is hoped that the Florida Statewide Youth for Christ Conference will aid in unifying our speech and our educational and teaching programs. The Goals of the Florida Statewide Youth for Christ Conference are to: 1) Unify and strengthen the teaching and educational programs of the church. 2) To edify the members of the church through Christian fellowship. 3) To enhance and improve evangelistic programs of the church. 4) To train the youth to be effective leaders, teachers and preachers in the church as well as model citizens in the community. 5) To teach the importance of Christian family living as outlined in the scriptures of the holy bible.

SELFIES.

Al Jackson was installed as the minister of Northside Church of Christ on Sunday, May 25, 2014. Al Jackson was the minister of the 10th Avenue Church of Christ in Gainesville, for over 11 years. He is now very excited to be working side by side with his mentor, Bro. McClendon. Al has been married for 16 years to his wonderful wife Anisha. They have two children Jalyn (13 years old) and A.J (10 years old). He earned his B.A Degree from the University of Florida in 1998. Al was a member of the Nationally Renowned Florida Gator Football Team where he received two SEC Championship rings in 1994 & 1995. Al has decided to use the lessons learned from his experiences as a world class athlete and as the father of an amazing adolescent son who has autism to help empower the lives of others through his ministry, his writing, and his presentations. David and Kia Lopez minister to the Oak Grove Church of Christ family. They have been married since 2015, but they have been good friends far longer than that. Besides laughing and spending time with friends, they enjoy sharing their faith with everyone they meet. Because of their background, they firmly believe in God’s transformational power. Kevin D. Jones, Sr. was born on December 22, 1980. He was the second son of Kirk Sr. and the third of Juanita Jones. He and his two brothers and sisters were raised in Bladenboro (pronounced “blade-in-bur-row”), NC. There he attended the South Lumberton Church of Christ in Lumberton, NC were he was baptized at the age of 15. Kevin graduated from Bladenboro High School on May 24, 1999 and enlisted in the United States Army three days later. At the conclusion of his training, he was stationed at Fort Polk, LA and later at Fort Hood, TX. From both of these locations, he was deployed into the combat campaigns of Operation Iraqi Freedom I and II. He has been awarded five Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, two Good Conduct Medals, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Development Ribbon, and a host of other accolades and awards. He departed the military in 2005, wearing the rank of Sergeant. During his tour of duty he worshiped with the saints at the Beauregard Church of Christ, in Deridder, LA, under the leadership of Jasper L. Newsome. It was here that he developed a desire to preach and was mentored in this direction. While in Louisiana, Minister Newsome introduced him to a wonderful woman by the name of Clarissa S. (formerly Carner) Jones, who later became his wife. While residing in Beaumont, TX with his new wife, he attended the Northside Church of Christ under the direction of Dr. Joel V. Brown, Sr. Here he served as Youth Minister. In 2006, he began serving the Eastland Church of Christ as an Assistant Minister. He continued this service until 2009, when he became the fulltime Senior Minister; laboring there until 2013. In 2013, he spent the majority of this year serving the North Colony Church of Christ in The Colony, TX (under the direction of Minister Willie B. Williams, III) as the Minister of Marriage and Family. On his 33rd birthday, he officially began his ministerial assignment with the Pembroke Park Church of Christ in Pembroke Park FL where he serves as the Congregational Senior Minister. Minister Jones is an honor graduate of Southwestern Christian College, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Religious Studies in May 2009. Today, he is happily married to the beautiful Clarissa Jones, who has been his “Bride” since 2002, and he is the father of Ja’Leeah Juanita-Teresa Jones and Kevin (K.J.) Jones, Jr.
