ALEJANDRO GIL HERRERO ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO & CURRICULUM VITAE

The new volume increases notoriously the number of beds, common spaces and a new reception and launch area for the whole complex.

Competences

I joint the project in the Construction Document phase and my main focus was the facade of the new building; research, selection of the construction system, documentation and cost. Also I was involve working in the documentation of the stairs and elevators and the connections with the old building.

Project info Title: Sydney Wanda One Hotel Architect: Kerry Hill Architects Location: Sydney, Australia Year: 2016 Client: Wanda Group Status: International Competition (2nd place)

Summary

The design proposal for the hotel delivers a highly activated ground plane which is defined by transparent frontages and strong, sculptural sandstone forms which anchor and connect the buildings to their geological and historical context. A sweeping curved podium draws pedestrians into the laneway network from Herald Square and Pitt Street. The upper volume of the building which contains the hotel rooms has been situated on the north to maximise views from the hotel rooms and to provide a generous distance to the southern neighbours minimising the impact of the development.

Hotel guest functions and publicly accessible areas of the hotel have been planned to maximise views to the north and also to activate Pitt St. Pedestrian and vehicular traffic are separated by level to provide seamless arrivals and departures to the hotel. Minor modifications are proposed to Building A to give greater coherency for the overall development.

Competences

My participation in the project was along the whole competition period. As part of the designing team I was involved in the whole process from the massing design till the final delivery of the project to the client. During the first phase of the project I worked in the concept design and once it got approved my main focus was developing the public spaces of the brief with special emphasis in the communication cores of the tower. My competences also covered the design of all the underground part of the program; managing circulations, access, parking, loading bays, plank and technical rooms. Also designing the ramp and dealing with the Sydney underground train which crosses the site.

Summary

Title: Fiesta del Corral Cervantes Architect: Alejandro Gil & Patricia Ocaña Location: Madrid, Spain Year: 2018 Client: Fundación Siglo de Oro Status: International competition - shortlisted

Setup for a baroque festival. The public space has always been the gathering point for the inhabitants of a place to socialise and have a life in community. Trying to bring that philosophy into our proposal, we seek for a solution where the program was fully integrated in a succession of semi-open spaces. We seek to win the street back and fill it up again with action and activities and giving back to the space its real importance. The theatre, the gastronomy, the arts&crafts, the literature, the music…all of them gather together in this celebration and tribute of the Spanish Golden Century of Arts; The baroque period.

A big stair rises until the rooftop linking the three floors and creating double and triple heights. The Lighthouse resort keeps the old lighthouse tower as the genesis and hearth of the project. The hotel is displayed continuing the profile of the coast. The programme takes place in different lines which follows the topography and the movement of the waves. The public progamme and facilities, such as the reception building, offices, the restaurant and the Spa centre, are disposed in a first line taking advantaged, restoring and occuping the old buildings. The private programme, the suites, are disposed down to the way to the cliffs. The bedrooms are located in three moduls facing the sea. The Lighthouse Hotel is built up with materials which harmonize perfectly with the old lighthouse, the colours, the textures and the sea. The combination of concrete and corten steel cladding talks with the environment creating a sober and beautiful spot.
