TABLE OF CONTENT Academic projects

I have always been fascinated by the world of architecture and urban planning, which is why I have chosen this career. My professional goal might sound a bit philosophical. I want to change a world a little, by solving problems of the city, by creating functional, comfortable and aesthetic spaces for people to live in. Architects and designers have a critical, but largely unrecognized, impact on people’s daily lives and the collective footprint we leave. They help to create the built environment where most people spend 90% of their days and dictate how most people will interact with the world around them. I would like to see the day where we can live and prosper in our cities without eroding the natural systems that support us.

pedesrian access Pedestrians play one of the main roles in the development concept. Main square of the «Thomas Eck quarter» formed from the Bahnhofstrasse serves as an invitation to the whole area. This is a public space with the facilities for different target groups: playgrounds and active fountains for children, quiet zone for adults and old people. There is a start to the main pedestrian flow to the area. People’s access from the train station reinforced by the additional way from the platforms, lined with cafes, small shops, facilities for bike service and parking.

Differentiation between pedestrian and transport flows in the developing area allows an effective urban cooperation. Each building has a car access, which not disturbs pedestrian activity. In case of emergency pedestrian routes can be used by service transport. There are two general parking areas in the «Thomas Eck quarter»: the west spot - multistory building, with the opportunity of the car sharing, as well as rent a box; the south spot - underground parking, as a part of the Apartment-hotel building possible to use by the all residents. In addition temporary open parking lots provided

EXISTING DISTRICT FORMATION

task The first part of the bachelor thesis in the Markhi University, Moscow. Create a new residential mixed- income district on the area, according to the modern building regulations. Population density roundly 550-1000 person per Ha, height of the building than 6 floors. As soon as project territory predominantly industrial, economic and ecological/sustainability issues should be taken in to consideration. Think about how the new district can influence on the city of Moscow. Develop the transport strategy to connect new development with the existing parts.

Location The site of industrial area 45 “Aviamotornaya” is located in the north – west of Moscow. It was a part of the urban industrialization program in 1930s. However, the area is almost derelict nowadays and it is planned to be reorganize into a residential area by the Moscow government. Analysis of the area has shown that today’s area includes four different sectors, namely industry, (+ derelict territories) research institutions, offices and residential areas. It has also become noticeable that the redevelopment site is surrounded by the main transport routes such as railroad and highways, thus there is no problem to connect this area with the other districts of Moscow. In spite of the main transport connections, local roads do not covering the whole area of the district, which is why the directions of the local roads was changed as apart of this project.

DISTRICT MASTERPLAN One of the starting points of the development was changing the existing road network, in order to have better connections with the surrounding areas. “Grid structure” approach helps easily create modules for the development of the future quarters/blocks inside the district and save equal rhythm. “Likhoborka” is divided into four neighborhoods interconnected to each other. Each citizen has an access to the public spaces and recreational areas. Nature become an important part of the project, providing the sense of the collective value

NEIGHBORHOOD №1 - 20 HA

The river Lihoborka and its tributary, flowing into a pipe, are the main natural features of the area and also keys to zoning formation. Existing green areas, trees and water supply systems are preserved and connected to each other by two green corridors – boulevards, which become axes for surrounded buildings. Cars are not allowed on these green areas. However , in cases of emergency, pedestrian routes can be used by fire tracks and service transport. As some research and science companies already exist in the Lihoborka district, it is suggested to developed innovation cluster in this territory, by building new facilities for science institutions. This can attract new companies as well.

Apartment Building in Lichoborka neighbourhood

Masterplan

TASK The second part of the bachelor thesis in the Markhi University, Moscow.Design a building which can be implemented in the residential area of the Likhoborka district. Analyze a traditional typology of the apartment blocks (Soviet and Russian approaches). Create a project consistent with modern life requirements, flexibility and sustainability issues.

moscow nordwest district

For the residential buildings in the Likhoborka neighbourhood, I have suggested quite low height of the housing: 6-10 floors (Nowadays, Moscow’s average height of new housing is14-17 floors) This helps to make the district more human-scale, without changing the scale of the city, and also uses daylight time more effectively for the residents. The main components of the orientation of the houses and theirs floor plans are insolation and geomancy: taken into account all the directions, energy outputs for the owners of the apartments The necessary parking spaces are situated in the underground garage, which is placed nearby affording inner quarter space being used comfortably. Temporary parking places is provided as well.

14

As an example of housing, I have formulated an architectural proposal for a typical apartment building, which can be used for the whole area. This allows each neighborhood to develop individually according to its needs. The image of the building uses a simple form, mainly concentrated on the housing functions. Each floor consists of four apartments, varying in size from 62 sq.m to 107sq.m. All the walls in the flats can be changed by the owners because of the construction structure.

FACAD DETAIL The Facade is simple and modest; detalization is very important here: the window framing, masonry and the balconies create a particular style of the whole building. Rhythm of the windows remains unchanged on the facades. In order to achieve diversity, two heights of windows are used.

Masterplan

To design a building and a masterplan for the new educational complex purposes, relative to the existing surrounding area as well as specific conditions of the building plot. Explore functional particularity of the studying process, including social and educational issues. Think about how school facilities can be used by the citizens after the study day.

Project discription The first school in this place was opened in1936. Since that time, it has become very popular in Moscow because of its teaching methods, which are very unusual compared to other educational institutions. Nowadays, the school is being converted into huge educational complex, which will include a primary school (for children 5-11years), a secondary school (11-16 years) and a high school (16-18 yeas) together. Thus the building needs to be renovated to provide new contemporary methods of education, and have enough space for all student facilities Location is near to the city center, between the main metro hubs. This ensures access for all residents. However, the construction site does not overlook the major highways; it is a quiet place and the noise does not interfere with the educational process.

Building consist of four blocks, intended for use by pupils of the different age group. Blocks of secondary and high school are interconnected with each other by an open music hall and a gallery on the second floor, in order to improve socialization of the students. Ground floor contain common places usable equally by for all students, such as canteen, sport hall and swimming pool, etc. Open hall of the ground floor, become a central place - flexible and variable space, which can be used for study as well as for recreation. Teacher’s room is not isolated entirely, by using light partition walls, teachers become close to the pupils. All of the school spaces have equal access for all pupils, regardless of physical abilities.

TURANDOT

MULTIFUNCTIONAL COMPLEX ON ARBAT STREET

task

masterplan

Turandot residence is the long-delayed construction, started before crisis 2008. Two investors of the project have different visions, which needed to be connected, considering at the same time requirements of the state theater, who acted as a landowner. When the collaboration with “Senab-project”, started, a part of the construction was already build, although the facades were not consistent. The task for the architects was to create a new architectural image of the building, which could fit to the historical air of the Arbat Street, by using existing structures. Floor plans needed to be improve where it was possible as well.

location The Multi-functional complex “Turandot” is located in the heart of Moscow on Arbat street. The main pedestrian route of the district is famous for its rich history. It was a complicated task for the team of architects; creating a modern building, bun not to changing the unique atmosphere around it. Consequently, the building is divided into two parts: classical (facades on Arbat street and Nikolopeskovski street) and contemporary (inner court and residential areas 5-8 floors).

FLOOR PLANS The floor plans are functionally divided into 5 parts.(technical, retail, theater, offices and apartments) Two-storey underground parking with spaces for 93 cars of various classes. The ceiling height on the 1st level allows to cater large high-bodied off-road vehicles. At the same time the angle of incline of the entrance ramp has been reduced specially for the sport cars considering low ground clearance. A shopping arcade and offices are also planned as the part of the project. The business and retail premises are located on the first three floors, whereas the upper five are designated for suites. Turandot comprises 35 apartments, including ones that come with spacious terraces (from 50 to 250 sq.m).

We started with in-deepth analysis of place and time,in order to understand what type of decor and color fit the situation. We decided to choose theater masks as a main theme, in order to represent one of the new functions of the building: new facilities for the Vachtangov’s theater.

FOREST

VILLAGE IN MOSCOW REGION

masterplan

task Design four types of the detached houses various by square, consistent with the requirements of the middle class living.

SITE LOCATION The village is situated in 2 km from the Moscow Ring Road in the south-west, near the Kaluga highway. Travel time from Moscow to the Forest-village is 10-15 minutes, which allows you to organize whole-year living. From the east and south the site is bordered by the huge forest (area of about 4.5 square km). The main elements of the project idea is the preservation of the unique natural conditions in the area. Everything is taken into account. Each tree remains intact during the constructions process. At the same time it helps to create interesting shapes for the houses, where the natural and the human have a close relationship.

NATIONAL Equestrian PARK VILLAGE MOLOKOVO - ORLOVO, MOSCOW REGION. RUSSIA

masterplan

Project discription National equestrian park is a new large complex of sports and entertainment, which is located in the Moscow’s suburbs. Historically, the area is connected with the famous Count Orlov-Chesmensky, who gave the world a legasy of great breeding horses. The area’s development idea is founded on the historical meaning of the place, connecting the past and the future of the city. It consists of a racetrack for harness racing, an exhibition complex,an equestrian theater, a complex of stables and a pony- club for the children’s sports. It also houses a hotel, a shopping area and a variety of entertainment facilities. An horse competition center “Viva Russia!”, which hosts variety of international sport events, is a part of the equestrian park area as well.

TASK Among of my tasks in this project was the design of the shopping village. It is the one of the main points on the site, because of its location next to the main entrance and the parking area. It serves as main introduction to the whole equestrian park area. However, the construction of the buildings should be light, simple and cheap. According to the developer’s task, they should be built very quickly in order to facilitate people coming to the site. That is why i have decided to design typical blocs, which can be used differently, forming various pedestrian routes through the village to the horse theater.

version #1

Inspired by the principles and the natural features of the anthill: free movements and various possible paths through the area. Entrance is marks by the clock-tower, where info-point can be found. It’s catchy design influence on sense of place of the area in order to achieve inspiration of the unique image of the territory, and made it memorable to the visitors

version #2

Inspired by the Roman traditional house type – Domus. There is a strong differentiation between “private” and “public” sides of the area, they are divided functionally as well as by design decisions. In the inner yards with planting or water pool in the middle people can relax, after visiting Equestrian Park. In the entrance area small main square is formed, which can be used as a place for festival performances, excursion gatherings, etc.
