Alessandro Calastri
Turning Passion into Profession
Alessandro Calastri Alessandro Calastri earned a degree in Global Studies from Providence College in 2011, and in short order had a job as a research analyst at a brokerage firm, where his responsibilities included creating pitch books, writing industry overviews, financial spreadsheets and company profiles.
Alessandro Calastri It was pretty dry stuff, but he enjoyed the work. Yet something was missing, and he realized that staring into a computer monitor all day long was not how he wanted to spend his career. “Growing up in an Italian family, dinner time was important and always the time when we would share food and conversation,” he says today. “It was always my favorite part of the day. I wanted to find a job that could be like that family/dinner-time experience every day. It didn’t take long for me to figure out the equation that people plus food equals restaurant, so I turned my passion into my profession.”
Alessandro Calastri He enrolled in the International Culinary Center in New York and was exposed to all facets of the food industry. His coursework included Writing and Presenting a Business Plan, Entrepreneurs in Business, Kitchen and Back-of-House Management, Basics of Economics, Advanced Economics, Human Resources and Hiring, Restaurant Marketing & Public Relations, Branding Basics, Restaurant Law: Employment & Labor, and Technology for a Start up Restaurant.
Alessandro Calastri Looking back on it now, he says, “I was always told that my personality was best suited for the hospitality world. I wanted to learn every aspect of the restaurant industry, but at the time, I wasn’t exactly sure of where to start.” The answer was an uncle who had spent years in the restaurant business, and helped Alessandro Calastri get his foot in the door.
Alessandro Calastri Hospitality is all about serving people; it is probably one of the most people-focused industries there is. At its core, it’s about making customers feel welcome, relaxed, and happy they’re giving you their business. Alessandro Calastri has never regretted his decision to change careers.
