BE-YO! HOT YOGA STUDIO
Design a brand, logo and website f o r a H o t Yo g a S t u d i o o p e n i n g i n France.
THE BRIEF
Flower of life
->
Star tetrahedron
->
Fruit of Life
->
My client was keen to open yoga to a wider range of people, and step away from the traditional tired image of yoga. It needed to be clean, fresh, represent balance, strength, energy, heat, male orientated yet female friendly,. The client also wanted four elements incorporated into the logo to represent earth, water, wind & fire, with additional inspiration to be taken from the flower of life, fruit of life and sacred geometry.
Star tetrahedron is placed on top of the flower of life.
Using the shapes of the negative spaces in the flower of life, I select four corners that create the most movement and energy.
This font was chosen because of its progressive connections, its strength, and its softer curved features.
This contrasting font is used to also represent strength, but also precision and balance.
WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT My initial plan was to have a large tiled home screen that the customer would scroll down through. A primary mission for this company was to change opinions about yoga, and so I wanted to make the most important information for that visible, bright, exciting and engaging.
On the left you can see screenshots of the user scrolling down the main page, with the menu bar on the left remaining stationary.
In the end, we ended up with a much bolder typeface, and condensing the tiles so that the user didn't need to scroll down the page. When the mouse hovers over a tile, it fades to white, the text turns red, and the brands "stamp" appears.
STUDIO SIGNAGE I then proposed how the logo could be used as shop signage, by manipulating street view images of a property that was actually being considered by for the business.
ANCHOR LAMP
Product/Instillation Design. Create through learning and the importance of process.
ORIGINAL FREELANCE BRIEF DETAILS + Design a theme and concept for a range of lamps that will be mass produced. + The "Anchor Lamp" will be the core product. Focus on designing a theme and concept for this. + We are open to ideas for new lights as well. + The anchor that was designed for the Diesel window display is what will be produced. We will be keeping the rim around the edge, the same bulbs, shades and rope. Please incorporate these elements into your theme. + You are designing a theme and concept and not the actual shape.
SAILING AND LIFE AT SEA HAS BEEN AN INTEGRAL PLATFORM FOR THE BRITISH EMPIRES GAIN IN POWER. THROUGH COMBINING CONTEMPORARY COLOUR SCHEMES, INDUSTRIAL MATERIALS AND TRADITIONAL PATERNS, I HOPE TO CREATE AN OBJECT OF ENGLISH HERITAGE.
PATTERNS
COLOURS
Traditional English patterns spot glossed on face of the lamp to add subtle detail, texture and to accent heritage.
Variety of colours situated in on-trend interior design spaces to help picture designs as a real product.
UAL: CSM BRIEF DETAILS + Investigate the importance of instructions. + My chosen working title "Learning through making". + Take on a makor project using multiple new skills. + Try to overcome problems without a set of formal instructions.
PRODUCTION A condensed overview of the production line.
Cutting in Progress. Took less than 20 mins!
Shaping and spot welding the rim
Drilling 20mm holes for lights
Disk cutting and angle grinding to finish off shell
Preparing the electrics
Spray painting the face plate

Dissertation - Rocking Rebellion: S p e e d T h r i l l s ' n ' Te a S p i l l s
Photograph by Alex Garrow
The social and political values of the period leading up to the rocker movement is one which sparked a radical alteration to the behaviors in young people, and has since been the gateway to further movements such as skin heads, punks and the hippies. This dissertation set out to gain a greater understanding of a time period that I’ve found very intriguing since my brief work as a photographer assistant. I intend to explore the English rock culture of the late 50’s and early 60’s using American pop culture and the black leather jacket as the main point of focus.
Rock culture was a completely new phenomenon that created a polarization in society- a revolutionary new idea. As we’ve seen in the past with new art movements such as impressionism, cubism and surrealism, a new culture and new way of thinking has evolved. The same applies for the rockers. It was a new way of thinking. Society was behaving in a new way, developing and evolving into new and fresh subcultures.
ROCKING REBELLION: SPEED THRILLS 'N' TEA SPILLS
The rockers visual language will be a direct product of these occurrences and therefore its important to understand why they came about, and who it was that was included.
PROJECT PARAMETERS + Design a creative piece to house the dissertation via any medium and means you see fit.
CREATIVE HOUSING +Capture the visual essence of the Rocker world. + House the dissertation inside the leather jackets. + Display textures and shapes that surround the movement on postcard which in turn capture the new found excitement of travel. +Summaries key points of dissertation in a language empathetic to rocker lifestyle - via badges on a leather jacket to create an identity for my work.. + Present dissertation, postcards, jacket and badges in a black weekend suite case to carry on the method of travel and sociability.

Since the moment our planet existed, it has been reflecting light back into the universe, making our planet visible. If our planet is 4.54 billion years old, light will have traveled 4.54 billion light years away compared to the 14 billion we can see. So because our planet is younger we can't be seen as far as other, older structures in the universe I finally put the entire scale in relation to the life expectancy of our sun - the end of our planets life

Design and produce 13 products for under ÂŁ100 to sell in a pop up shop that you will need to find, rent, set up and run to raise m o n e y f o r d e g r e e s h o w.
PRODUCTION + The trick was to design the product so that it could be wired up after it had been baked. + This meant that through trial and error I broke the product down into as few sections as possible before wiring and final assembly. + A problem I found was solder melting and falling out of the open elbow and T joints whilst baking. + Some sections required me heating specific joints whilst holding at a new angle. + These difficult joints also often required heat to be rotated for equal melting of the solder. + Some sections even needed the solder to be removed.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE SPOKEN WORD?
"WHEN WE TALK ABOUT WAR, WE'RE REALLY TALKING ABOUT PEACE" G.W.B
A STUDY OF THE SPOKEN WORD, ITS IMPORTANCE AND THE MANIPULATION.
THE PROJECT + Language and communication was the focus of this project. + After development I decided upon "How important is the spoken word" as the title. + Investigations of different language applied, and experiments of withdrawn language led me to one of my final outcomes. + A quote from George W Bush using language to make war and death a desirable choice. + How can I take this information and make it tangible for people.
THE OUTCOME AND REASONING + + + +
A grenade, deactivated or active, creates a presence in the room. Its the threat that gives it power and an unwelcome presence. I decided to cast a real ex-service grenade in clear resin. To increase desirability and glamour I incorporated techniques similar to methods in luxury retail stores. + I built a white plinth into which my grenades could sit + Lighting was fitted underneath each mould. + On the side of the plinth, the quote mounted on white foam board. + The instillation was complete. What was once a deadly threat of a very real grenade was now a shining beacon that visitors were attracted to and actually interacted with.
TARGET OVARIAN CANCER FUN RUN BRANDING
A proposed new logo for an annual fun run to raise money for o v a r i a n c a n c e r.
THE PROJECT + Charity is re-branding a fun run, looking to make it more eye catching and fun. + Must be primarily pink and purple with a small element of teal green (the colour of the cancer). + Needs to incorporate foot prints.
