UK Office of Student Success web re-design
Challenge:
CONNECT STUDENTS TO HELPFUL RESOURCES Many students have had trouble finding the resources available to them to help them succeed in school. Due to a lack of knowledge of where to find information, dropout rate had increased. The Student Success group wanted to rebuild the site in hopes of engaging the student and faculty population and increase student retention by locating important resources faster and making them easier to find.
Approach:
FIND INFORMATION FAST The assumption was that if students could graphically see what they were looking for, they would be more likely to find their resources faster. By restructuring the information architecture of the Student Success website and eliminating unnecessary pages, students could potentially find everything they needed on one website much faster.
What was it about?
Graphics:
ENGAGING THE USER By turning all of the superfluous information that the Student Success site was inundated with into graphic visuals, we were able to attract more students to the site once the fall semester began. We also partnered with faculty from the colleges on campus to reduce their own information into graphics and host it on our site. During this time, we realized that we had the potential to reach more students and proceeded to completely over haul the site with a new look and give it a more appealing look.

How I Got Here:
TEXT, TEXT, AND MORE TEXT The biggest challenge I faced was the replacement of text heavy pages with their graphic equivalents. Pages required text descriptions to be made into visual representations. This problem helped me develop a different way of thinking and processing information into something visual that could help make students understand the information presented to them.
Product: INCREASE IN VIEWS according to google analytics
The Student Success web page saw an increase of over 400% between the months of August-November after the IA was restructured
FACULTY INVOLVEMENT a community exercise
The previous version of the Student Success web page was created without Faculty knowledge. After the re-launch, more faculty got involved, provided helpful information, and it started discussion about information they should be providing to students
