Mason & Hanger Architectural Dept. IA exercise
Challenge:
CONNECT PROFESSIONALS TO INFORMATION, FASTER Architects at Mason & Hanger have not used the old intranet page for years due to its complex IA. Mason & Hanger wanted its professionals to save time and limit their efforts on finding information.
Approach:
BOLD + JIFFY MAKES EVERYTHING NIFTY Architects don't have time to read through every index page to find what they are looking for and using the search function takes time as well. If the architects in the office could have a visual representation of the information they were searching for, they would find what they wanted faster. I worked under the assumption that, in some cases, it would be easier to combine all similar content under one index instead of a strict hierarchy.
Structure
How I Got Here: TEXT TO VISUAL
The biggest challenge I faced was the different design perspectives of 13 professionals and combining their ideas into a more unified appearance. In some cases, the location of information was a tough challenge with half of the architectural department split on where information could be nested.
Product: PAGE REDUCTION a weeks worth to be exact
The architectural intranet page went from 250+ pages of content, down to 21.
VISUAL RELIEF instant association
By creating icons that professionals could relate to, the information nested within was more easily accessible and search time was reduced.

UK Office of Student Success web re-design
Challenge:
CONNECT STUDENTS TO HELPFUL RESOURCES Many students have had trouble finding the resources available to them to help them succeed in school. Due to a lack of knowledge of where to find information, dropout rate had increased.
Approach:
FIND INFORMATION FAST The assumption was that if students could visually see what they needed, they would be more likely to click on that information and find their resources faster. By restructuring the information architecture of the Student Success webpage and eliminating unnecessary pages, students could potentially find everything they need in one place.
What was it about?

How I Got Here:
TEXT, TEXT, AND MORE TEXT The biggest challenge I faced was the replacement of text heavy pages with their graphic equivalents. Pages required text descriptions to be made into visual representations. This problem helped me develop a different way of thinking and processing information into something visual that could help make students understand the information presented to them.
Product: INCREASE IN VIEWS according to google analytics
The Student Success web page saw an increase of over 400% between the months of August-November after the IA was restructured
FACULTY INVOLVEMENT a community exercise
The previous version of the Student Success web page was created without Faculty knowledge. After the re-launch, more faculty got involved, provided helpful information, and it started discussion about information they should be providing to students

The intent of this proposal is to create a safe healthy and inspiring environment. The use of natural ventilation and shading will help with conserving energy and using energy only in spaces in which it is most neccesary. Through a series of environmental integrations into the dwelling units, the cost of living can be greatly diminished. In the school section, the large ceilings provide shade to the bottom floors and help to control the flow of rain to a cistern on the first floor.
