Reykjavík / Tallinn: Two Months And Two Weeks by Alexander Le Sage de Fontenay Made during my participation in: Graphic Art Studio 3 (BKU19GR) Graphic Art department, Eesti Kunstiakadeemia (EKA), Tallinn Concept, design, layout and photos   Alexander Jean Edvard Le Sage de Fontenay Supervision   Liina Siib Tallinn / Reykjavík, January – March 2020

In the spring of 2020 I completed two months of studies at the Graphic Art & Graphic Design departments at EKA in Tallinn, Estonia until my exchange studies there were cut short. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic I was forced to leave new friends behind and enter a two-week quarantine upon arrival in my hometown ReykjavĂk, Iceland. I continued my semester at EKA from there.

During these two months and two weeks I took photographs on my 1992 yashica j-mini super point-and-shoot camera. I managed to produce some unplanned double-exposures in the process. I am fond of saying that they all are an unexpected and beautiful combine of the two towns and my experiences during this time. Here you will find all of them along with words that I thought fitting to each image. Sometimes a memory, sometimes I got inspired to write something new. Enjoy !

Stroomi—a neighbourood in Tallinn I used to call home—is a hidden gem.

Get hooked on Maxima XX or take a walk on the beach.

An oddly placed sofa located in a small field in Stroomi. The reaction I get now thinking about it, looking back ... I miss even the shadiest parts of Tallinn.

I used to ride the bus to school. I soon realized that the bus-drivers didn’t like it when I paid with cash. In my mind I can still hear them whisper “No change.”

Before midnight on a Saturday on a bench outside my house I’m drinking a beer all by myself. This is not fair. I am privileged.

“Are you staying ?”

“It’s hard to say I’m taking it day-by-day right now.”

“For now, yes.”

“We can go to my parent’s cabin in the countryside. They have a sauna, ... there is a record-player in every room... It’s a way to escape the COVID-Confusion...”

“ This is a place where kids play in the summer, We could even have breakfast outside, when its warmer. On with the tour.
