Strengths:
Large area > already offers a range of uses and functions as a series of personal, social-cultural, economic and environmental spaces and uses Variety of activates carried out all year around Has difference spaces and areas including waterfronts, formal gardens and bush areas offering difference experiences Safe place; very low instances of crime over the past few years Good community which respect the park In a central location within Sydney and convenient to get to and from with public transport and major roads
Opportunities:
Expand range of cultural/social events within the park and take advantage of the cultural community Of Leichhardt and Sydney as a whole Adapt for reuse (especially the facilities) Create an exemplar sustainable multiuse parkland within one of the worlds global cities High quality and innovative design and landscape architecture to enhance under-utilized spaces within Callan Park Benefit local economy through increasing visitation Improve environmental quality of the local area by increasing biodiversity and improving water quality Highlighting Callan Parks social and cultural history
Risks:
Current multiuse strength is diluted by the dominance of a single use that marginalizes the others New uses or improvements to Callan Park might necessitate increased security and affect existing access New uses may not be sustainable from a social, environmental or financial perspective Changing balance of uses within Callan Park may lead to overcrowded cars and parking
Transport and Access:
People travel to Callan Park on a wide range of transport modes : walking, cycling, bus and light rail Some walking facilities within Callan Park, including the popular Bay Run the pedestrian network within Callan Park is fairly limited Road network within Callan Park is narrow and circuitous with a high level of parking demand in certain areas. Especially on busy weekends the demand for parking associated with the playing field exceeds the available spaces. Opportunities and considerations: Develop a Integerated transport Framework and to ensure that vehicular traffic within Callan park is minimized

Concept: Our initial design concept we thought of was creating a form which was able to capture and highlight the view of Parramatta River. To achieve this the idea was to seperate the Main function areas from the administration functions. Thus the initial form we created was a building which would be able to allow the users to experience the view from a higher level and allow adequate amount of sunlight in during the winter times.

The path of the sun also primarily shines from the side north side of the building and thus the overhangs help provide shade during high angle sun light in summer and allow it during low angle sun light during winter
The glass panels at the front of the building have exterior aluminium blinds which have reduce the high degree of heat entering the building
Windows on all sides of the building allow cross ventilation from all direction due to dynamic wind directions
Doorway entry points/windows from the front and back of the building allow air ventilatino through out the building
