Every summer the New Alexandra opens its doors to our local young people to show that the West Midlands most definitely has World Class upcoming talent in our very own annual Stage Experience production. This year over 120 local young people will be donning their leather jackets and hand-jiving in the unforgettable classic musical Grease! Each year I am astounded by the finished result with our cast truly deserving every second of each standing ovation. Be sure to book early for this annual treat as tickets are already selling fast. We’re thrilled to announce that the smash-hit musical Sunny Afternoon - based on the story of one of Britain’s greatest bands, The Kinks - makes its Birmingham debut here this September. Meanwhile, Alexandra Burke heads up the cast in a brand new production of Sister Act; and not one but two cult film classics are re-imagined for the stage as Little Shop of Horrors and Ghost tour into the New Alex in the same month. This Christmas, the multi-award winning musical Chicago is set to razzle dazzle Birmingham with exciting star-casting to be announced. We are already looking ahead to 2017 when the greatest celebration of soul, The Commitments, lifts the roof of the theatre! THE CLASSIC THRILLER THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS

ROBERT DAWS AMY ROBBINS ROBERT DUNCAN SUSAN PENHALIGON STEVEN PINDER LUCY DIXON AND

DIRECTED BY ROY MARSDEN Following the phenomenal decade-long success of The Agatha Christie Theatre Company, which sold over two million tickets and continually played to packed houses around the UK, Bill Kenwright presents a new production from the pen of the legendary award-winning writing team Levinson and Link, whose work includes the mystery series Murder, She Wrote and Columbo. The star cast includes leading stage and TV actor Robert Daws, best known for The Royal and Outside Edge, and his wife and co-star from The Royal, Amy Robbins, who also starred in Blood Brothers in the West End; and from the record breaking Agatha Christie Theatre Company, Robert Duncan, best known for Drop the Dead Donkey, Susan Penhaligon who starred in the gripping drama Bouquet of Barbed Wire and Ben Nealon from ITV’s award winning Soldier Soldier. Joining them are Steven Pinder from Brookside and Lucy Dixon from Waterloo Road. Playwright Alex Dennison is left heartbroken when his fiancée and leading lady Monica Welles is found dead from an apparent suicide. On the anniversary of that ill-fated night, Alex assembles the same cast and crew in the same theatre, for a reading of his new play. But as the reading begins, it becomes clear that Alex believes that Monica was murdered and he intends to uncover her killer.

Adapted by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony and Olivier Awardwinning playwright Richard Greenberg and directed by Nikolai Foster, this tale of vivacious, good-time girl Holly Golightly and her fantastical existence in 1940s New York City, is told through the eyes of a young writer named Fred, played by Matt Barber (Downton Abbey), who is completely fascinated by this exquisite extrovert who every woman wants to be, and every man wants to be with. With memorable songs from the era, this stylish production is set to capture the hearts of audiences and sparkle like a diamond in a Tiffany’s window. Photograph by Uli Weber

THE WEST END HIT COMES TO BIRMINGHAM

MON 2 - SAT 7 MAY Mon - Sat 7.30pm Wed & Sat 2.30pm Bad Jews enjoyed its UK premiere in Bath as part of the Summer Season 2014, where it opened to a raft of superlative reviews. This ‘BLISTERINGLY FUNNY PLAY’ (SUNDAY TIMES) then transferred to London’s St James Theatre where it became the best-selling play in the theatre’s history, followed by an extended run at the West End’s Arts Theatre where the packed houses and rave reviews continued. Don’t miss the chance to experience a night like no other. A beloved grandfather has died and a treasured family heirloom with religious significance is up for grabs. But who is most deserving of it? Bossy, overbearing, fanatically religious Daphna? Her wealthy cousin Liam, who’s just returned from skiing with his non-Jewish girlfriend Melody? Or Jonah, his brother, who would prefer not to get involved in the fight?

American Idiot is coming to Birmingham with Double Platinum-selling artist Newton Faulkner playing the role of Johnny. He will join X-Factor finalist Amelia Lily in Green Day’s explosive award-winning Broadway musical alongside Alexis Gerred, Llandyll Gove, Lucas Rush and Steve Rushton who will all be reprising their critically-acclaimed roles. Winner of two Tony Awards® and the 2010 Grammy Award-winner for Best Musical Show Album, American Idiot is the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world. The show features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong and book by Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer. US rock band Green Day released their American Idiot album back in 2004. Inspired by epic rock operas such as Jesus Christ Superstar and The Who’s Tommy, the album soon went multi-platinum, selling over 15m copies to date and winning a Grammy for Best Rock Album. TUE 24 – SAT 28 MAY Tue - Sat 7.30pm Wed & Sat 2.30pm

Once there was a time with no mobiles, no online dating and no Facebook, when teenage girls waited with bated breath by the letterbox for their weekly issue of Jackie Magazine. In Jackie The Musical we revisit those heady days and tell the story of a recent divorcée who seeks advice once more from the pages of her old Jackie annuals. The quizzes, the fashion tips, the ‘do’s and don’ts on a first date’ and above all the Cathy and Claire problem pages are all eagerly devoured by our plucky heroine as she revisits the dizzy world of the teen bible. With her ex and a handsome new guy in tow, the valuable lessons she learnt as a girl begin to influence her future and Jackie discovers the one person in control of her life is her. Starring Janet Dibley (The Two of Us, EastEnders, Fat Friends), Olivier Award nominee Graham Bickley (Ragtime, Bread) and Nicholas Bailey (EastEnders, The Archers), Jackie The Musical features classic ‘70s hits, played live on stage by a world-class band. Thrill once more to the unmistakable sounds of pop idols Donny Osmond, David Cassidy, Marc Bolan and many more. This fun and feisty night out is a must see.

RHYDIAN ROBERTS

Seymour Krelborn, the assistant at Mushnik’s Flower Shop in downtrodden Skid Row, becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers a strange and exotic plant. He names it Audrey II in order to impress glamorous Audrey, the colleague he’s secretly in love with. Audrey II quickly starts to wilt, putting Seymour’s job and dream future with Audrey at risk. Accidentally pricking his finger, Seymour discovers Audrey II needs a little more than plant food to thrive. The plant grows into a bad-tempered, foul-mouthed carnivore whose voracious appetite becomes increasingly difficult to satisfy. How far will Seymour go for the woman of his dreams? With music by the legendary Alan Menken, best known for his numerous Walt Disney film scores, Little Shop of Horrors is a cult film and one of the longest running off-Broadway shows of all time. Sell a Door Theatre Company, producer behind recent Avenue Q, American Idiot and Footloose UK Tours, present a Theatr Clwyd production of the critically acclaimed musical.
