gallops back out on tour to bring the West End production to theatres across the land (to the sound of banging coconut shells). Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is a kind-of-new musical with a book by Eric Idle and an entirely new score for the new production (well, almost), created by Eric Idle and John Du Prez. The latest tour, which is directed by Christopher Luscombe, follows hot on the heels of the can’t–believe-how-successful-it-was Monty Python Reunion at The O2 and Eric Idle’s acclaimed performance of Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life at the 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony - the world sang along, and Spamalot audiences get the opportunity to do so too! During the run, there have been 21 onstage moustache incidents, three suspected cases of swine flu (French pigs!), 3 outbreaks of nits and 92 pairs of coconuts. a BRAND NEW PRODUCTION OF THE CLASSIC MUSICAL
Following numerous highly acclaimed productions that include Sweeney Todd and Sunset Boulevard, The Watermill Theatre returns with a new production of the classic musical Calamity Jane. Starring Jodie Prenger (Oliver!, Spamalot and One Man, Two Guvnors) alongside Tom Lister (The Water Babies, Emmerdale) and a cast of multi-talented actor/musicians, this brand new production gets to the heart and soul of the musical. Calamity Jane can outrun and outshoot any man in Deadwood. Hard, boastful and desperate to impress, she travels to Chicago on the Deadwood Stage to recruit a star, Adelaide Adams. But things don’t go too smoothly for Calamity, as everyone in town favours the new girl and she struggles to keep her jealousy and pride in check. It takes her long-standing enemy Wild Bill Hickok to make her see sense, and realise her Secret Love. With an Oscar nominated score that includes The Black Hills of Dakota, The Deadwood Stage (Whip-Crack-Away), Just Blew in from the Windy City and the award-winning song Secret Love, don’t miss this new production which blows into Birmingham for one week only.

Recently voted the Nation’s Favourite Play
★★★★
‘Blissfully funny. In short, a superb, lifeenhancing play’ the Guardian
Pass it on boys, that’s the game I wanted you to learn. Pass it on Called ‘one of the finest plays Alan Bennett has ever written’ by The Daily Telegraph, The History Boys opened at the National Theatre in 2004 to rave reviews, a sell-out run and went on to become one of their biggest ever hits, winning over 30 major awards including the Olivier and Tony Awards for Best New Play. In a recent national survey this comic masterpiece was voted the Nation’s Favourite Play. Set in the 1980s, The History Boys is the story of a group of bright, funny and unruly sixth formers in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university. Their maverick English teacher is at odds with the young and shrewd supply teacher, whilst their headmaster is obsessed with results and league tables. Staff room rivalry and the anarchy of adolescence overflow, provoking insistent questions about history and how you teach it. Their A Levels may be over, but their true education is only just beginning. This brand new production is an hilariously funny and exceptionally moving play about the true purpose of education. Alan Bennett’s numerous plays include Enjoy, The Madness of George III, Single Spies, Talking Heads and The Lady in the Van. Age recommendation 14+

a brand new production of the olivier ‘tom stoppard’s dazzling masterpiece’ the daily telegraph
One of the greatest plays of the last century, Arcadia first premiered at the National Theatre. Arcadia explores the delicate relationship between past and present, blending history with actuality as the focus drifts from 1809 to now and back again. Starring Dakota Blue Richards (The Golden Compass, Skins) as Thomasina, Ria Zmitrowicz (Mr Selfridge, Youngers) as Chloe, Wilf Scolding (Borgia, Skins) as Septimus and Charlie Manton (Love Never Dies, The Turn Of The Screw, ENO) as Gus/Agustos. In a stately home in 19th Century rural Derbyshire, secret desires and professional rivalries take hold of the residents of Sidley Park as Thomasina, a talented pupil, makes a startling discovery well ahead of her time. Whilst in the present day academics Hannah and Bernard attempt to piece together the fragments of truth that tell her story. Tom Stoppard’s undisputed masterpiece is an exciting new collaboration between Theatre Royal Brighton Productions (Dandy Dick, Blue/Orange) and English Touring Theatre (Twelfth Night, Translations). Directed by the multi award-winning Blanche McIntyre, hailed by critics as one of the hottest new directors in the UK, with recent smash-hit plays including The Comedy of Errors at Shakespeare’s Globe, The Seagull (winning Best Director at the UK Theatre Awards) and Tonight at 8.30.

Based on Mel Brooks’ much loved Academy Award-winning movie, The Producers is a hilarious musical comedy that has taken Broadway and the West End by storm, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards® and 3 Olivier Awards.
