PROPORTION Designer: Jørgen Kastholm and Preben Fabricius Born – Died: 1931–2007; 1931–1984

CONCEPT

What was their country of origin and where did they consider their active studio? Their country of origin was Denmark, while their active studio was in Germany. What was their training? Architect, Industrial Designer, etc? Fabricius was trained as a cabinetmaker and Kastholm was a blacksmith. Who did they design for? They designed for a German manufacturer, Alfred Kill.

01

Are their pieces still being made? By whom? The pieces that were produced by the designers in the 1960s, are still sold today by and are considered as classics. What do you like about the furniture piece? The furniture piece has a unique and simple design. The design does not compromise on aesthetics and comfort. The simplicity of the design also has a benefit of lasting longer and are timeless. The use of high quality materials, including chrome steel and leather, also help in improving the overall built quality and duration of life. Also, since this work of art was created half a century ago, it is very exclusive and has a history behind it. What would you do differently if you had the influence? Since it is high quality materials they are using and on average the chair is $7,000, in that case I would offer a different version that would be available to the public. The chair’s arms have a tan leather string that may get old during every day use by the user’s arms. Moreover, the chair would be more practical, if the back of the chair would not be in a fixed position, rather it would be able to move forward and backward.
