The Inwood Natatorium is located in Inwood of Upper Manhattan, with cross streets of Seaman Ave and Isham Street. The neighborhood is characterized as dense, vibrant and a sports oriented area.
The design has evolved from the concept, which is represented by a folded surface smoothly rising from the landscape. The bent lines define surface and zones cutting dramatic interior and exterior for circulation, lobbies, café, indoor swimming pool, exercise rooms and juice bar. The equilateral triangles represent an equilibrium of health and vitality that this building will promote.
The building is supported by 4x4 feet concrete columns. The façade compromises of triangular steel and glass panels connected with steel mullions. The bent roof is supported by steel trusses and has triangular ceiling suspended from it. The triangles are opaque and made out of wood.
