CASEIT 2012 CaseIT 2012 will be a four-day event that encompasses more than just case analysis and presentation. Participants will also engage with industry professionals and discuss current IT issues through CaseIT’s Discussion Panel. Moreover, students will be able to network with other future business leaders at events such as the Welcome Dinner and the Corporate Function. The structure of the competition consists of 16 teams competing against each other in a 24-hour case deliberation. The teams are divided into four divisions with four teams in each division. There are two rounds of presentations where only the top team of each division can advance to the second and final round. 9

DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS SAP WELCOME DINNER 6:00PM – 9:30PM Wednesday February 1 The Fairmont Waterfront Grand Ballroom, 900 Canada Place Way, Vancouver CaseIT 2012 will start off at the Fairmont Waterfront Grand Ballroom. At the SAP Welcome Dinner, teams will meet fellow participants as well as members of the organizing committee and representatives from our sponsoring companies, and notably a great presence from the sponsor of this Grand Event, SAP. The Chair of CaseIT 2012 will welcome all participants, followed by a keynote from SAP. The competition tiers and pools will be announced at this kick-off event.
“SECURITY: SAFEGUARDING SUCCESS” DISCUSSION PANEL 9:30AM – 1:00PM Thursday February 2 Asia Pacific Hall at the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, 580 West Hastings Street, Vancouver The theme description, as described in the Chair’s message, applies specifically to this event which is held at the awe-inducing Asia Pacific Hall, whose floor plan, you may notice is actually the CaseIT logo. CaseIT 2012 Chair, Nima Sarhangpour, will welcome and introduce all panelists and the entire audience. Following, Dr. Andrew Gemino will introduce and facilitate the discussion. Speakers will each have 12 minutes to speak about their respective companies and their security initiatives. This will be followed by a discussion where speakers will answer questions fielded by the audience and Dr. Gemino.

CORPORATE FUNCTION 6:00PM – 9:30PM Thursday February 2 Vancouver Convention Centre 1055 Canada Place, Vancouver This unique networking event is an evening where Participants will be able to converse and make meaningful connections with representatives from CaseIT’s supporters. The Vice Chair of CaseIT 2012, Gordon Swenson, will welcome all participants, followed by networking between participants, coaches, industry professionals, and faculty members. Participating team introductions / performances will take place throughout the evening adding some personality and entertainment to the exceptional food and stunning venue overlooking the harbour and local mountains.
COMPETITION & AWARDS BANQUET The competition will consist of the 24-hour deliberation on Friday, February 3rd and presentations on Saturday, February 4th. On presentation day, teams will present their case analysis in Round 1 at SFU Harbour Centre. Round 1 will take place from 9:00AM to 11:30AM. Teams selected to advance from their respective pools will compete in Round 2 and the Lightning Round at the Segal Graduate School of Business. Round 2 presentations and the Lighting Round will be held from 1:30PM to 5:00PM. Winners will be announced at the CIOVAN Awards Banquet later in the evening.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT THE SAP WELCOME DINNER Camelia has over 20 years of experience in the software development and Information Technology industry and is responsible for designing, developing and implementing large scale business solutions for SAP. As a Sr. Manager in SAP IT, she is in charge of a global team primarily located in Canada and France, and has recently led her team through a major SAP implementation of a Partner Relationship Management solution. DISCUSSION PANEL Geordie Cree is the Chief Information Security Officer for Inventure Solutions Inc., a Vancity Company. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Geordie provides strategic organizational leadership and is accountable for the information security program. Geordie is a senior Information Security professional with 15 years experience in Information Technology with the last 10 years leading Vancity’s Information Security program. He is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).

In this role, Geordie is very client focused and helps find practical IT solutions to enable the division to achieve its objectives.
John Proctor is Director of Cyber Resilience for CGI. John’s team provides Consultant Network Security Architects, Vulnerability Assessments and Penetration Tests, Cyber Forensics, Threat and Risk Assessments and general security services. The team is based at CGI’s secure facility in Ottawa and supports all of CGI’s business units and clients, in Canada and abroad. John is a recognized security expert on the issues and impact of risk management - both to the individual and the organization. He was responsible for the development of all of

the federal captivity survival programs currently in use in Canada today. He has helped a number of countries with their own risk management systems and has been involved in a number of Canadian hostage incidents. John has been the lead author on a number of nationally recognized training courses ranging from dealing with violence in the workplace to how companies should prepare themselves and their employees to travel abroad. John has 22 years experience in the British and Canadian forces. He is a qualified Intelligence Officer, HUMINT operator, Hostage/Crisis Negotiator, has served as aircrew flying helicopters in the Royal Navy and spent 6 years working with Canadian Special Forces. He is a trained Negotiator, qualified Legal Mediator and a Behavioural Consultant.

JUDGING PANEL Lloyd Bauer is the Chief Information Officer at the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority (TransLink). As CIO, Lloyd has overall responsibility for information technology strategy, planning, development and operations for the TransLink group of companies. Prior to joining TransLink, Lloyd held a number of senior management IT positions at WorkSafeBC, including Director of Planning, Architecture & Analysis, and acting CIO. Lloyd holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University and a certificate in Strategic Leadership from the University of British Columbia.

Greg Brierley is the Director of the Project Management Office (PMO) at Pacific Blue Cross. Peter is the Director of Information Technology with the BC Medical Association. The BCMA is a 12,000 member professional association of BC physicians. Based in Vancouver, the Association employs 165 full and part-time staff delivering a variety of membership, benefit and affinity programs and services. Peter has overall responsibility for all internal IT operations including the network environment, e-commerce activities, mobile computing, application development and system security. In addition, Peter acts as the BCMA’s Privacy Officer. Peter represents the BCMA on the Canadian Medical Association’s Health Information

Technology Committee that advises the CMA on national-level policy issues related to the use of technology in the delivery of healthcare. Peter also acts for the BCMA as a technology and policy advisor to the province’s PITO initiative that is promoting and funding the deployment of electronic medical records in BC.
BC MEDICAL ASSOCIATION Prior to joining the BCMA in 1999, Peter spent 15 years as President at Image Software Ltd., a Vancouver-based software development and information systems consulting firm. Lauren Goebel is Vice President of Technology Business Solutions at Inventure Solutions (A Vancity Company) and has been in the IT field for almost 25 years. The past twelve years Lauren has really been focused on IT delivery, strategy, and organizational development. Some of the key areas that Lauren has led and implemented have been outsourcing IT components, mergers and acquisitions, governance of large ERP projects, and large turnaround/transformational projects. In addition to Lauren’s IT work she also actively participates in the Lower Mainland

I have five years of experience managing software development teams in medium size companies. I have worked in contract, start-up and small to Fortune 500 corporate environments. I received an Executive MBA from Simon Fraser University, an MSc in Computer Science

Nelson Lah is a Director of Consulting Services at CGI for the BC region. Nelson worked on supercomputers, optimizing algorithms for mathematical built-in functions and enhancing seismic models for the oil and gas industry after graduating from The University of Calgary. He joined the BC Ministry of Forests as CIO in 2002. Under his strategic and innovative leadership, the ministry won numerous awards of excellence.

His public sector experience is complemented with private sector experience with CGI. He constantly leads the charge for innovative solutions. His service to the community includes Past Presidencies of Victoria Conservatory of Music, Victoria Chinatown Lions Club, and Inter Cultural Association. In the summer, he enjoys paddling on the rugged West Coast in his hand made cedar-strip kayak and sleeping under the moonlight.
