In August 1938, Kankakee, Illinois a father and a son experimenting with a soft ice cream concept wanted to know how people will accept their product. Their good friend Sherb Noble and patron of their work agreed to have his store used in an "all you can eat" experimental sale concept. After two hours, they served, 1,600 soft serve ice cream treats to patrons of the store. Food franchising was not yet a trend. The product was good and the concept was just right. As a result, in the years that follow, everybody was talking about this soft ice cream and was adored by people of all ages. During World War 2, 1941, there were only 10 Dairy Queen Stores. In a short span of time, this number multiplied 10 times to 100. After the war, in 1947, it numbered to 1,446. In 1950 it reached up to 2,500 and 2,600 by 1955. Now, the Dairy Queen franchise is one of the largest fast food systems in the world with more than 5,900 restaurants in the US, Canada and 20 outlets on foreign shores. There have been changes in the years that followed its astounding success with the addition of a wide variety of menu items. One thing that didn't change is the concept, the taste and the place where Little League teams celebrate after a victorious game, where grandparents treat the kids and the everyday "Joe" swings in for a satisfying meal. In addition to that, people from all walks of life frequent the store for their daily lunch, snacks or just to taste that soft ice cream. The success of the system leads to the success of its franchisees as well. Their philosophy is if a customer is satisfied, the restaurant is successful. All their franchisees are committed to make sure that all the people in their establishment whether employees or customer are all treated right. The success of the brand name is attributed to the franchisees who have upheld the tradition that the forefathers of the company had established. To become a successful franchisee of Dairy Queen, it's very important that you must have the qualities that the brand name is looking for: A partner with proven business connections and has adequate exposure in brand development in their area. One committed to develop a strong internal infrastructure that's composed of training, operations, marketing, and logistics A partner with high quality real estate properties. A partner who has the desire and passion to sell the Dairy Queen brand

Dairy Queen clearly has market domination, great brand awareness, a proven business model and a proven track record of success. These all add to value for the franchise investor. When looking to start any business it is important, particularly considering today's market, that you look for specific ways to cut minimize or reduce overhead and risk. Any business is going to have risk, but it is important to have a full understanding of the amount of investment, startup cost and "ROI" (Return on Investment). Most people are not aware that 80% of ALL franchise endeavors fail in the first two to five years leaving large debts looming for years thereafter. One way and in my opinion the best way to cut overhead, startup and investment cost is to take advantage of the new age of entrepreneurship and start a business from the comfort of your home. Opportunities have emerged in the online market that are creating millionaires every single day.
