KONSTWI SANT KOMINOTE BICENTENNAIRE
A timeless sanctuary designed to encourage and support the growth of the Haitian community of Bicentennaire, Haiti. By using the symbolism of the unofficial national flower, the Hibiscus, and the Haitian Quadrille or Karabela dress to solidify the connection to the community. Both Hibiscus and the dress are symbols of femininity and tradition. The project name is a response to rebuilding the community post-natural disasters. In the sense of culture and local development, the hibiscus provides healing properties used as an immune booster and remedy for numerous health issues, from high blood pressure to nerve and cardiac diseases. The Karabela is an everyday dress often worn as an off-the-shoulder top with a matching skirt. Colors associated with the dress would be either white with yellow or red stripes, blue stripes, or blue with darker blue and red stripes with white linen lining the edge forming a ruffled hem. Through these symbols, three architectural elements are integrated in the design of the building. KONSTWI SANT KOMINOTE (KSK) utilizes natural ventilation, Rainwater harvesting, and structural bamboo, introducing possible opportunities for comfortable spaces to promote community longevity.

CENTRAL INDEPENDENCE COMMUNITY CENTER
Central Independence Community Center is located in the heart of Independence Heights, Houston, Texas. This neighborhood carries a rich history of segregation, injustice, and a deep-rooted connection to the African American community. The location of the site inspires the design process in creating a symbolic heartbeat at the center of the neighborhood.
This studio we were challenged to analyze and find solutions for environmental justices that support the local area. I focused primarily on redesigning Little White Oak Bayou and the affects of the 500-year flood plane to the community.
Environmental systems would include storm water drainage into the central amphitheater. The green roof is sloped to ground level, allowing visitors to enter the second level through the roof. This slope also lowers the amount of radiation beaming on the structure. The ability to connect such a community like Independence Heights is vital to the wellbeing of residents and the natural habitats surrounding the site. With further development, Central Independence Community Center will allow for future renovation and integration of new systems that continue to drive and promote mental and physical health for a better sustainable future.

A HOME FOR THOSE IN TRANSIT
In this project, an initiative to address the issue of homelessness in Houston, Texas is the goal. Texas is one of the top three states in the US that experiences a 58% homelessness in their adolescent population for the year of 2021. As a requirement for this initiative, 15 units with a maximum 500 sf per unit was established for temporary housing to accommodate these adolescents. Each space includes a bedroom, study, restroom, kitchen, and shared space. The site supports the growth of soft skills by providing training and access to outside resources to prepare residents to be active members of society. Each prefabricated residential unit encourages residents to learn self-supporting habits for an efficient transitional period out of the facilities. The materials used for each unit is prefabrication 3D concrete for a fast track construction and delivery method, strategically stacked and align to mechanical and plumbing between levels.

Sankofa meaning “To go back and get it” a backward facing swan is the officia; symbol signifying looking into the past and bringing the teachings to present day.
The Adinkra Furniture Project is inspired by sacred West African symbols that represent aspects of cultural and social orders.
The project is commissioned by the Texas A&M College of Architecture and collaborated with Prairie View School of Architecture. The furniture designs are from chosen Adinkra symbols which I believed represent the whole of the African American experience. The furniture will be located at the outdoor patio of the Brazos County African American Museum in Bryan, Tx.
Throughout the process of fabrication, design changes occurred as a result to different materials being selected for different sets of furniture.
