Brôker Bar C ///
M /// The Biggest Lamp in the World
Project Name: Brôker Bar. Design and construction of a multi-task bar, restaurant, after-work and take-away deli. Graphic design included (2013).
We are trying to define a ceiling out of light. A geometric pattern filled with bulbs. A huge chandelier made of 371 lamps floating over the lounge.
Client: Brôker Bar Location: Madrid (Spain)
Brôker Bar opened his doors 25 years ago. Since then, they had remain the same. Same look, same furniture, same menu. With all these other new restaurants popping up around the Azca area in Madrid (the financial center of the city), change was imperative.
5 /// ALEX OLLERO / PORTFOLIO 2014
This bar, has always been like home for the office workers of the area. Let’s do this. Let’s really turn this place into a home, with a big living room, with an opened kitchen so everyone in the family could see the cook taking dinner out of the oven. We will use 3 elements: a rug, to define the places to be around; a super-piece-of-furniture to go along the whole place, like an infinite stripe that contains everything (dishes, glasses, forks,...); and of course, an enormous chandelier (5x7m), to light up the main room.

A super comfortable mix of wool and esparto. We’ll cover the main interior facades of the bar with it. This better than just painting, isn’t it?.
A super functional wooden piece of furniture. Goes around the whole place as a continuum, framing the different areas of the restaurant and containing everything necessary to make it work.
A pretty chandelier made of 371 bulbs. A geometric pattern of light, managed by 3 different electrical circuits. It’s like a Persian carpet drawing hanging over the living room.

The Quesa Cottage C ///
M /// The Stone-Box
Project Name: The Quesa Cottage. Design and construction of a mini hostal located in the village of Quesa.(2011).
The area has a very strong stone work tradition. Actually, there’s a huge quarry up town. Why don’t we fill a transparent box with stone? We’ll mimic the surroundings. We’ll rearrange nature to welcome our visitors.
We propose a simple rearrangement. We’ll use nature the way our ancestors did. We’ll use the traditional stone work industry to build a few single-family houses. Just like all the other houses down town.
With a very reduced budget we entered the project thinking about a real chance to rediscover our past. The rural Spanish life style.
We’ll put them all together as a pile of stone. A visible landmark for the village.
Client: Quesa Town Council Location: Quesa (Valencia, Spain)
We were given an incredible site in return. Right on top of the near-by hill. From there, a perfect view of the valley, the sea en the beautiful village of Quesa.

“It’s a condensed city of memories. A huge stone container. Tradition inside a box”
With a “William Turner Filter” to bring nature into the picture. This is old school architecture ...or maybe not.

Colgate (concept store) C ///
M /// The Freshness Trampoline
Project Name: Colgate Concept Store. Proposal for a brand new experiential space. (2013)
We have brought freshness into a volume and we have put it into an existing space.
Client: Labstore Spain (Young & Rubicam)
The assignment was to re-think the idea of a white space, the idea of an add related to a feeling: freshness.
Location: Nomadic Action
These past years Colgate have tried to sell the brand as a treatment. They have positioned them-selves as clinical recall of purity and white. The perfect smile, as an icon a cleanness and healthiness.
16 /// ALEX OLLERO / PORTFOLIO 2014
Of course they have achieved that. So, what if we try to show people the experience. Not the technical way of being a Colgate costumer, but the ludic one. The project is about wrapping a space. To put the product into a clean fresh “cloud” of sensations and take it on tour around the world (literally). We’ve taken these big elastic pillows, filled with Colgate gel, and we have built a big white trampoline so that the costumers can dive into freshness.

#estarjuntas C ///
M /// The Piazza Inside
Project Name: #estarjuntas. Definition of a gathering space for exhibitions and workshops (2013)
“...But this shouldn’t be just a table. This should be a gathering space, like La Piazza del Popolo in Rome”.
Client: C.C. ABC Serrano (Shopping Center) Location: Madrid (Spain)
Every year, ABC Serrano Shopping Center, offers a variety of workshops to activate the common spaces of the mall and generate an extra income due to the rent of these areas to some notable brands. There for, the project should perform as a support to these events. And even more. It should help defining a space for sharing and chatting before, during and after the events. That’s a classic Piazza!.
21 /// ALEX OLLERO / PORTFOLIO 2014
We were forced to use palets as the corner stone of our project (even though, we already hate them). Somehow, this turned to be the perfect piece to generate a rhythm, a perfect “columnata” of a Baroque plaza. Almost like a land art operation we displayed the palets around the 3 level void in which we were invited to operate.

La Picnic Experience C ///
M /// White Little Clouds for the Picnic
Project Name: La Picnic Experience. Definition of an outdoor summer chillout. (2013)
You don’t tell people where to have a picnic. Usually lights and shadows define the perfect location.
Client: C.C. ABC Serrano (Shopping Center) Location: Madrid (Spain)
ABC Serrano’s Picnic Experience is already a classic event in Barrio de Salamanca (Madrid). The roof top of the building gets ready for the summer, letting all neighbors in to enjoy a little dinner and watch the sunset. We were asked to distribute the space, but seriously, who has ever tell people how to colonize nature? Nobody does that.
24 /// ALEX OLLERO / PORTFOLIO 2014
In order to manage the different areas required, and also as an act of common sense (sun burns as hell in the summer), we decided to let people decide between light and shadow. And, how can we generate this dual situation? Easy, we’ll hang a few white-little-clouds. A patterned texture, generated by flipping up and down a pre-defined system of paper-tiles.
