REPORT
When receiving the module brief I was excited to start, as it was the first time I was going to enter into a big competition brief like D&AD, I knew it was going to be challenging and difficult but was excited to get the briefs and get under way. At first I was unsure what I would be making or how I would create designs for the competition briefs, as the only one I have done in the past is secret 7. However because I was unsure what I was going to do or what to expected from the briefs i thought that will help me in developing my skill in graphic design as It would be push me out of my comfort zone and get me to create something I have never done before and explore in different areas in desgin.
D&AD MONOTYPE
STUDIO BRIEF 01
Monotype, I chose this task as it gave me no limitations and I could do it on any topic I desired, I decided make an awareness campaign to warn people about the dangers of laughing gas a big problem in the UK right now. The idea was to combine image and type together, even though this is typography based brief I decided to use photography to make my submission to stand out from the Competition . I started by looking at posters that’s also use image and type, I found this research very interesting and it confirmed my thought that photography and type together would make a big impact. Using images and type gave me a chance to use my extracurricular hobby, Photography. The final outcomes came out with high impact and gave off a powerful message, which was key for this brief. The idea of using image and type may be a weakness and a problem in this assignment as the main requirement was type, however I feel my designs came out bold and I’m happy with the final outcome. Not only am I happy with my results, in my crits my peers all said that it came out really well and communicated the message professionally. The techniques I have learnt in this brief- using the lighting kit, editing photographs to a professional standard and using studio photography- will help me in future projects to come. Producing a body of work fit for a political campaign really helped me in using my design skills for keeping the style trendy however also achieving a serious high-quality standard that can easily be absorbed by the general public.

SECRET 7
STUDIO BRIEF 01
I was excited to do secret 7 again with no restrictions, as previously we were limited to making the result on Illustrator as a vector image. Doing this task for the second time round meant I could complete all the desires I had previously wanted to do, making me excited for this project. I decided to use go down the photography root again as doing this was so successful in my D&AD brief and create two covers using photography on both. After these decisions I went round Hyde Park in Leeds to take photos as I thought this was a very urban area and shot many different rural elements that I noticed, I took a wide range of different views and objects to give me maximum choice when it came to selecting my final few. I then went on to pick the final photos and edit them on Photoshop to create the retro look I was going for. After collecting all my photographs and selecting the right images for the final product I felt the need to pair them with some other type of art form. This is where I thought paint was a good idea to give my final result some texture and depth; I feel that the paint and photographs coincided well together and completed my final product. After using multiple skills in this brief it has given me more confidence in grouping art forms together when confronting a brief. This brief allowed me to express myself and create a design that uses the skills I enjoy doing.

SECRET 7
D&AD DESIGN BRIDGE
STUDIO BRIEF 02 In the collaboration brief I wanted to do the design bridge project as I have never done packaging design before and it looked like an interesting product area and the brief had a lot of freedom, which is always good. I want to work with graphic designers as I feel they would fit best for this project instead or an animator or illustrator, because when I think of shampoo designs I think of type and simple layouts and ethics. My group for the project was Dan Hart-Davies and Aaron Major as they both wanted to do this brief as well. The brief was to create a unisex brand within the beauty industry, we all thought we should do a hair care range as why do we need a male and female shampoos they all do the same thing. From the research we collected and ideas we created, my team and I produced a hair care range that was minimal design; we got our inspiration from pharmaceutical design layouts, this completed our upmarket product image. I was happy that I put in a lot of energy I managed to create a lot of the team I produced the label designs, presentation and also digital mock-ups and physical mockups, I found this collaboration enjoyable and an easy process, everyone pitched in and pulled their weight, which helped make the project run smoothly. We used Google Drive so that we could constantly work on the project, even if we were separate, this was really helpful as we don’t all live together so meant the work was constantly being produced and we were all kept in the loop. However even thought we worked separate a lot we met in the studio regularly to talk about what needed to be done and generate ideas and improvements. From doing this project I am going to collaborate more with my peers in graphic design and also in other art departments as collaborate is a great way at creating ideas and designs and learn different skills from others, I found I learnt a lot from the other members in my group that I will be able to apply to my own work.
STUDIO BRIEF 02
D&AD DESIGN BRIDGE
Overall this module has helped me at undertaking a brief that is open and to create a big portfolio of work for, it has also pushed me in creating professional outcomes that could work in the real world. Collaborating on big project like D&AD was a challenged however it was enjoyable working with others and producing work as a team, out of the briefs the one that stands out for me is my Monotype project. The outcome was strong and bold even though I didn’t focus on type I still think I have achieved the task. The briefs have developed my skills and I have learnt a lot that I can apply to future projects and even after university. In this module my time management has also been good getting the work under way as soon as the brief was released and getting it done well before the deadline. I think I have been very professional with the projects the presentation boards are well presented and also the final outcomes are to a high standard and I believe I work professional with my team on studio brief 2. A weakness for me in this project is the Monotype brief as I didn’t focus on just type I did type and image so this maybe effect my submission to D&AD however I’m pleased with the outcome. Working on desgin bridge gave me a insight into packaging desgin and i really enjoyed doing it and having a Physical product infront of me, from doing that brief it has made me want to do more packaging desgins and explore this area in grpahic desgin. The module has been a challenge but it has developed my skill in graphic design and I can see the skills I have learnt will really help me in the future after university.
